Chapter 22: What A Mess!

Ten minutes later, she walks out of the bathroom with a frown on her face, but she isn’t crying so I am completely confused. “Is it positive or not?” I hesitate to ask her, but in the end, I just spit it out quickly.

Frowning at me, she replies softly, “It is negative, but while I was sitting in the bathroom, I began to get excited at the idea of having a baby growing in me. Something to love and to take care of that would be my very own. Now, I am beginning to wish that it was positive and almost cried when I saw that it was not. Is there something wrong with me?”

As she asks me this, I watch as tears form in the corners of her eyes and then they begin to cascade down her cheeks like mini waterfalls. Coming to her rescue, I wrap my arms around her and let her cry on my shoulder for what seems like forever. When I hear her gentle snoring on my shoulder about 15 minutes later, I begin to giggle before cutting it short because it appears that she has fallen asleep on me.
