Chapter 24: Promises Are Meant To Be Broken

Glancing out the window at the sun as it begins to set, I watch the golden tinged treetops glow against the blue of the clear sky, before the sun all but disappears behind the tree line. It was a long, but beautiful day, as I walked around the village alone and ate in the diner without Alexander at my side. As I did, everyone stared at me, but didn’t dare approach me. Instead, they looked on with smiles on their faces.

By the time I heard Alexander open the door behind me, I had already made up my mind to be mad at him no matter what he said his excuse was. So, when he mutters softly, “Oh jeez. I completely forgot.” and runs his hand through his thick hair, I roll my eyes and return my attention to the woods around the house.

As I hear him walk up behind me, he puts a hand gently on my shoulder. Pausing, he sighs and then leans down to butter me up by kissing my neck and then whispering in my ear, “I’m sorry. I had to take care of business.”
