Chapter 2

Since the tragic lovers had a love that was oh-so-great, North should give them a huge gift to celebrate their love.

North made a call. The next moment, Linda received a message and screeched.

“What did you do?!”

She stormed over to slap North.

“How could you say my daughter slept with her brother-in-law?! You’re so despicable! How could you say such a thing?! You hurt Melinda and even tried to ruin her reputation?! I’m going to fight you, you b*tch!”

North sneered. Linda called her a b*tch whenever she felt like it, and she could not believe anymore how long she had tolerated it for Eiger’s sake.

She grabbed Linda’s hand and slapped her.

“Can’t stand me saying a few bad words about your daughter? Both you and Melinda are using my mother’s inheritance, and you have the gall to yell at me?!”

When Linda heard North talking about the inheritance, she did not even care that she had just been slapped and started yelling. “What’re you planning to do, huh?! You can only get the inheritance if you marry someone from the South family! Eiger no longer wants you, so that inheritance is ours!”

North scowled at that.

That was indeed a problem.

Her mother had stated in her will that she had to marry someone from the South family to get the full inheritance.

Linda regained her confidence and snarled, “If you kneel down and beg me for the inheritance, I might help you—”

At that moment, North saw someone standing not too far away.

“Eiger isn’t the only man in the South family.”

North had seen that man with the South family before. He was Eiger’s uncle. He might be young, but he had achieved great things. More importantly, though, he was still a bachelor!

A bold plan formed in her head, and North’s eyes twinkled.

“Just you wait, Mrs. Myers.”

After the farce ended, Gerald Howard looked away. “Send Ms. Jane back.”

His bodyguard went to the woman screeching hysterically and took her away.

His assistant, Connor Regan, braced himself and spoke up. “Mr. Gerald, the madam stated that you have to get married today. Ms. Jane is—”

“I don’t like women who fancy themselves smarter than they are.” Gerald looked down. His gaze was distant, cold, and regal.

Connor immediately fell silent. Jane had told everyone that she was Gerald’s wife and acted on her own accord without talking to Gerald about it, which angered him.

“But where are you going to find yourself another bride today?”

“Pick any random socialite in half an hour…”

Gerald saw the woman whose marriage had just been ruined walking over to him with a smile.

“Sir, if you’re looking for a random woman to marry, what about me?” North said.

Gerald raised his eyebrows in surprise.

Everyone around them fell silent. Connor was shocked. Did the woman even know who she was speaking to? The audacity!

Gerald narrowed his eyes, and his voice became a little darker. “Ms. North, are you proposing to a man you just met?”

His gaze was cold, but his eyes shone like gems behind his gold-rimmed glasses.

North felt intimidated, but she quickly composed herself.

“I might have just met you, but it doesn’t matter. Some people can immediately figure out that the person they just met is the right one for them. Meanwhile, others refuse to change their bastard nature even after dating someone else for ten years.”

Gerald gave a mysterious smile. “Plenty of socialites want to marry me. Why should I choose you, Ms. North?”

North froze. How should she answer his question? Was she supposed to promote herself to the man?

She wrecked her brains for an answer. Then, an idea came to her, and her eyes lit up. “I have something that the other socialites don’t!”

Gerald’s eyes landed on her scar, and he was stunned for a moment. “Oh?” He was interested now.
