Chapter 7

Henry trembled and could even feel his vision blacking out.

North looked at all the people in the room.

Melinda was only three months younger than she was. On the second day after her mother passed away, Linda moved into the Myers family’s mansion with her daughter.

Soon after, when North realized that there was something strange about her mother’s death, she was sent to the countryside, and her family never asked about her wellbeing.

If her mother had not clearly stated in her will that North was to inherit her wealth and possessions, the Myers family might have even forgotten that she existed.

Henry roared at her with a red face, “I said nothing wrong! Both you and your mother only know to blame others! You never see yourselves as the problem!”

“We never see ourselves as the problem?” North hummed expressionlessly. “Makes sense. After all, my mother wasn’t good at seducing men, unlike Linda. Mrs. Myers, not only did you manage to snag my father, you even taught your daughter to be even better than you at seducing men. I really can’t compare to you two.”

“How could you?!” Linda started crying and flung herself into Henry’s arms as if the whole world had done her and her daughter wrong. “Look at North, Henry! I don’t care that she hates me, but why does she hate Melinda too? It’s Eiger who wants to cancel the engagement! It’s not Melinda’s fault!”

Her words reminded Henry about the cancellation.

He pushed down his rage. “Enough! We’re not dwelling any further on this. We asked you to come here because Eiger wants to cancel his engagement with you!”

Eiger had also recovered from his rage and sucked in a deep breath. “North, I won’t marry an indecent woman, and I don’t want Melinda to be hurt by our relationship either. Hand over the engagement gift to Melinda.”

Melinda’s eyes were teary. She looked regretful but also as if she was withholding from showing how upset she felt. “Eiger, I know that I’m not worthy of you. Don’t make North sad because of me—”

“Even if you’re an illegitimate daughter, you kept clean, which makes you much better than North in this regard! She’s been mistreating you just because she’s Henry’s legitimate daughter! Stop defending her!” Eiger’s heart ached for Melinda.

He turned around angrily. “North, I’m canceling our engagement! I’m not repeating myself!”

North sneered. When she nearly died from blood loss to save Eiger, he promised to protect her for life.

Yet when the doctor said that the wound on her neck would scar, Eiger found her ugly and got together with Melinda.

Eiger was the one person who should have never denounced her, because she had saved his life!

Strange. How on earth had she liked this sc*mbag in the past?

North nodded calmly. “Sure. Let’s cancel it.”

“Eiger, can’t you listen to her? She’s just—” Melinda begged, but, halfway through her speech, her expression changed. She thought that she was hearing things and turned to North. “What did you—”

“I said, I’m fine with canceling the engagement.” North smiled. “So, could you stop with your lousy acting already?”

The ward fell silent.

Melinda was in disbelief. North had actually agreed to cancel the engagement?!

Eiger was also taken aback for a moment before he finally registered what North said, “You’re agreeing to it?”

Everyone knew that North loved him. Otherwise, she would not have made use of what her mother left for her to help him get to his current position.

How could she agree to cancel the engagement so easily?

But it was what he desired. He did not want the engagement to exist a day longer and get to hurt Melinda more.

Eiger sucked in a deep breath. “I’m glad you came around to it. Since we’ve known each other for more than ten years, as long as you give me the engagement gift, I won’t say anything more. After this—”

North interrupted him with a smile. “I’m agreeing to the cancellation, but on one condition.”
