Chapter 9

The criticisms from the doctor and nurses just kept coming, and Melinda instinctively screamed, “Am I not your sister, North?! How could you set me up like this?! My heart hurts…”

“Melinda!” Linda immediately realized what Melinda wanted to do and went over to her while crying. “North, are you happy after doing this to Melinda? Henry, protect your daughter! You know her heart is weak… Oh, why are our lives so full of hardships?!”

Henry stared at North’s face with growing fury. He should have killed this b*stard fifteen years ago!

Why was she such an insensible child? There was nothing wrong with sacrificing her for the sake of the Myers family and Melinda’s future!

The more Henry thought about it, the angrier he became. He slammed his hand on the chair. “Enough! Stop talking about this!”

North looked at him. “Stop talking about this? I was set up. My wedding and reputation were both ruined. Yet you want me to not talk about it after the truth was revealed? You want me to keep Melinda out of this mess and pretend that nothing happened?”

Henry got even angrier. “What else? Do you want Melinda to apologize to you?! She already said she’s not the one who did it! Why are you hung up on this?!”

North’s gaze turned cold. “Why am I hung up on this? I see. Mrs. Myers and Melinda only needed to shed a few tears, and they turned from perpetrators to victims, huh? I can’t compare to them at all.”

The nurses felt sorry for North and shook their heads.

“Mr. Henry is so biased. He keeps protecting his illegitimate daughter. Ms. North is so pitiful.”

“He cheated on his wife. You can’t count on him to do anything right. That mistress of his has him wrapped around her finger!”

“It’s no wonder Ms. North’s reputation has been getting worse over the years. How could her reputation be good when her stepmother and stepsister keep twisting the truth like this?”

Melinda began crying again. “That’s not it. I didn’t… Oh…”

Suddenly, she cradled her chest and fell backward. Linda quickly caught her in her arms.

Eiger’s heart ached for her. “North, Melinda is weak. How could you confront her so aggressively?”

In a rage, Henry picked up the cup beside him and threw it. “Get out!” he shouted at North. His voice quivered from rage. “How could I have a daughter like you?! It’s entirely your fault no one from the South family likes you! Out!”

North knew that the Myers family had always been biased toward Melinda. Even if she killed someone, they would still protect her. That was why she did not expect them to chase Melinda out.

North was satisfied with simply being able to make Melinda suffer such a huge loss. “Mr. Henry, I’m a petty person. You better make sure you give me a satisfactory explanation for this mess.” Then, she remembered something. “By the way, a correction. Someone from the South family does like me. Eiger, I have a surprise for you the next time we meet. For now, treasure your time without me.”

She then ignored all the abusive curses hurled her way and walked out of the ward.

Ten seconds later, the elevator door opened, and she heard a surprised shout.

“Are you serious, Gerald?! You got married?!”

North stopped walking and turned around.

Gerald and his best friend, Colt Quinn, walked out of a ward. Gerald’s gaze was unreadable. “Is there a problem with that?”

Colt put on an exaggerated expression. “How could you possibly get married? I won’t believe you until I see your wife.”

Gerald cocked an eyebrow.

At that moment, he looked up and saw North, who was standing not too far away.

Amusement flashed in his eyes. “She’s here.”

“Huh?”

Gerald walked over to North. “Let me introduce you my wife: North Myers.”

My wife…

North’s face turned red at the two words. Why did he sound like he was flirting with her when he said that?

Colt was shocked. Gerald actually got married? There was no chance of him lying either. He knew that Gerald was not the type to pick a random woman to make a joke.
