Henry’s expression froze, and he cursed his bad luck. He could not chase North away while so many people were watching.

He put on a resigned smile. “Everyone, you might not know this, but my eldest never listens to me. It’s not as if I intentionally left her back at home. North, I didn’t forget about you. Come. Let’s go in.”

Linda went forward and pretended to be a good stepmother. “North, didn’t you say that you didn’t want to come? I’m sorry. I didn’t ask what you really meant and made you upset.”

The people then immediately “understood” what had happened and exchanged looks.

By the sound of it, North had thrown a tantrum and refused to come, but then changed her mind at the last minute.

“We can understand, Mr. Henry. You’re worried about your eldest causing trouble, aren’t you?”

“Every family has its own troubles. Your illegitimate daughter is mature and smart, but your eldest is petty. It must be tough for you.”

Once the people left, Henry hissed at North while suppressing
