Chapter 4

Gerald Howard!

The most mysterious and powerful man in Peacevale!

North fell completely silent and nearly bit her own tongue from shock. “You’re the leader of Deep Pool Corporation?!”

Gerald finished signing the paper and chuckled. “Why are you so surprised? Didn’t you know who I was when you asked me to marry you?”

North’s mind went blank.

She actually did not know! Who would have thought that the leader of Deep Pool Corporation was Eiger’s uncle? More shocking yet, who would have thought that he would agree to marry her!

It was no wonder why they were welcomed by a government official at the city hall. Gerald Howard’s marriage was a huge matter.

North gulped. She could not let Gerald think that she had never seen an elephant before, so she feigned calmness.

“I wasn’t expecting someone as famous as you to be so casual about”—under Gerald’s gaze, North changed what she originally wanted to say—“following marriage procedures. I thought you’d want the city hall officials to come to your doorstep.”

Gerald chuckled, and his voice made her heart race. “It looks like you have some misconceptions about me, but, if you want to, I can ask them to come over.”

North spluttered. That was not what she meant!

At that moment, the staff completed the registration and handed their marriage licenses to them.

North took hers, and she finally felt as if a weight had been lifted off her shoulders. She even forgot about how she had embarrassed herself just now and smiled.

When they walked out of the city hall, North did not get into the car.

She was well aware that their marriage was only a business deal. Once the deal was done, she had no reason to stay by his side.

She cleared her throat and said, “Mr. Gerald, since we’ve finished with the procedures, I won’t take up any more of your time. I’ll be go—”

Gerald gave her a look. “Ms. North, you created a huge problem for my family today. I believe they’re going to be looking for you to settle accounts. You have no other choice but to come home with me tonight.”

North fell silent as she thought about what sort of trouble she could possibly face later. Then, her expression changed. While pretending as if she had not just suggested leaving, she calmly got into the car.

“You’re right. We’re already married. I’d be treating you as a stranger if I said I didn’t want to bother you anymore. Come, let’s go home.”

The atmosphere in the car turned awkward until Gerald chuckled.

“You’ve certainly shown me just how great you are at adapting to the situation at hand.”

North bowed her head and pretended to be bashful. “You flatter me. You’ll see more of my strengths in the future.”

Even Gerald did not know how to respond to that.

North was different from the rumors.

He casually brushed past her, which lifted her necklace and revealed the deep gash hidden under it.

He jolted, as if the sight of the gash stung him, but he quickly suppressed the emotions in his eyes. “Connor will send you back to the mansion. You can pick whichever room you like. I have some matters to take care of, so I won’t be coming back tonight.”

North pursed her lips.

Gerald had just said that they should be going back to the mansion, but he changed his mind after seeing her scar. Was it so ugly that he could not stand being in the same room as she was?

But not having to live together under the same roof was exactly what she wanted.

North thought nothing of it and politely bade Gerald goodbye before she shut her eyes to rest.

The next morning, North was stunned when she opened her eyes.

She was not in her worn-down room in the Myers family’s mansion.

Then, she remembered. She got married to Gerald and was sleeping in a guest room in Royal Sights Residences.

North rubbed her head and walked out. She was about to go to the kitchen to grab something to eat when she thought of something.

Eiger had said that his uncle had great accomplishments in the art of calligraphy and stayed in the South family’s mansion with his elders.

But clearly, this particular mansion in Royal Sights Residences was lived in, which meant that Gerald had been staying here for some time. There were also no signs of calligraphy in the mansion.

The South family was famous for calligraphy and paintings, but Gerald left to become a businessman and even created Deep Pool Corporation?

North found the situation a little off.

Did she… mistake Gerald Howard for Eiger’s uncle?
