Chapter 5

No, that was impossible.

She had clearly heard Eiger call Gerald his uncle before.

Oh yes. Eiger had once mentioned that his uncle had a ruby bracelet on his bed. North would know whether Gerald was him if she checked it.

North immediately went to the master bedroom and opened the door.

The soft carpet absorbed the sound of her footsteps, and she went straight to the bed, where she started groping around in the dark.

At that moment, she accidentally touched something. It was warm and thin, and she felt hot puffs of air landing on her hand. She could even smell the unique smell of a man.

North had just touched Gerald’s mouth!

Shocked, she nearly screamed. Didn’t he say that he was not coming back?!

But she gritted her teeth and continued looking. She cast her eyes on the head of the bed. At that moment, due to her not standing properly, she slipped.

Despite North trying to catch herself, their lips were swiftly getting closer to each other…

Gerald opened his eyes.

Since he was not wearing his glasses, his gaze looked even sharper. “Is this what you meant when you said you weren’t trying to get anything out of me?”

North’s mind went blank.

His soft, cool lips brushed against her moist and red ones. There was no space between them. She trembled, as if the touch burned her.

She could feel Gerald’s moist breath on her.

North lay half on top of Gerald with her mind empty. She did not know how to react. For a few long seconds, she just stayed where she was with her lips pressed against his and held his gaze.

This lasted until Gerald spoke up. His voice was husky, and he seemed to be doing his best to hold back. “North, get up.”

Then, North’s mind roared back into action. Her face turned red, and she immediately pushed herself up.

…Only for her arms to collapse beneath her and make her fall back into his arms.

Gerald chuckled. “If I didn’t know you did not want anything out of me, I would have thought you were trying to seduce me.”

North did not know what to say at this point. She felt like she would never be able to prove her innocence.

She scrambled backwards and hunched her shoulders under his intimidating stare. “Would you believe me if I told you it’s all a misunderstanding?” she asked in a whisper with flushed cheeks.

Gerald laughed and did not say whether he believed her or not. But North could hear the profound, teasing lilt in his laughter.

What should she say? Did Gerald think that she was seducing him? But she was innocent!

Ring!

The ringing phone broke the stalemate and the suggestive atmosphere between them.

“I have to pick up this call, Mr. Gerald.”

As if she had just been saved by the bell, North grabbed her phone and ran out of the master bedroom.

The next moment, Henry’s voice came blasting out of her speaker.

“North, get your *ss over to the hospital right now! You got Melinda hospitalized and even posted about it online?! It’s all everyone’s talking about right now, you shameless b*tch! Did you think you’d have the last laugh?!”

Gerald narrowed his eyes.

North was stunned for a moment, but she soon recovered. This situation did not leave her at a loss, unlike the one earlier. She retorted lazily, “Who do you think I inherited that trait from? Have you never heard that the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree?”

“You brat!” Henry gnashed his teeth in anger, but quickly calmed down. “Everyone already knows that you cheated on Eiger, and the South family has decided to cancel your engagement with him. They’re being generous by not holding it against you, so you have to give your engagement gift to Melinda!

“If you don’t, I’m going to throw your mother’s belongings into the trash! Seriously, both you and your mother have only ever been bad luck!”

Then, Henry hung up.

North’s expression turned dark.

She had to give her engagement gift to Melinda?
