Thirty

Steady footsteps echoed outside the door. The sound of imminent danger was almost muffled by the falling rain. A spear of lightning lit the sky and a shadow from the front door crept in uninvited.

Don slunk out of the sheets with his gun drawn. His eyes were a bit sore from a heavy sleep. It was now four in the morning. Heart pounding in his chest, he reached for the door, swung it hard, and almost opened fire on........Selena! His hands jerked back to hide the gun. He took in the rest of her wet and trembling body, accompanied by the fear of nearly being shot at.

“Selena?”

“Am sorry, I didn’t mean to come unannounced, but I figured you wouldn’t have met me had I asked....”

“What are you doing here, especially this time of the night ?” “I wanted to-”

“No, actually, don’t mind that. How did you find me”

“I’ve spent a month with the most elusive crime lord in all of Colombia, don’t you think I know a few tricks by now?”
