Just One Drink

Aubrey's POV

Eating a bowl of cereal while sitting on the couch, lost in thought, I heard a knock on the door that dragged me to the door, still feeling a bit numb.

There, on my doorstep, stood Xander, holding a bouquet. He looked nervous, and I stared at him blankly, unsure of what to say.

“You weren’t picking up my calls” he began, causing me to eye him up.

I wasn't impressed, and he must have noticed it. Without giving him room to speak, I asked instead, “Why is it whenever I get into trouble with your pals you can’t do anything!?”, my voice rising in frustration.

“You were there but very useless when I needed you, and now you're here trying to make it up to me with flowers?”

“I’ll make it up to you please” he apologized, looking sorry, but I didn’t mind…maybe my mind wanted to create a scenario in which I’d break up with him.

“It doesn't work that way. You can't show up and expect everything to be okay.”

He looked down, his expression full of shame. “I know I messed up,” he said, and it was beginning to sound like an annoying chant.

“But I promise I'll do better from now on, Let me make it up to you, there’s a block party I’d want you to come to”

“When?” I asked less interested.

“Now, Alexis said I should make sure you’d come too,” he pleaded and the eyes I could see glancing at us made me aware that I kept him standing outside.

“Come in and wait, I’d go change”

Reluctantly, I changed out of her pajamas and into a nice dress, determined to put on a brave face for the party.

Then, I went back out to the living room, where Do Xander was still waiting. “Are we set to go?” he asked, and I nodded, still unable to meet his eyes.

When we arrived at the venue, Xander immediately blended in, but I was not too comfortable with the type of people I was seeing at the party.

They were all the same age as I was, but their ravaging hormones were something that extremely amazed me. This was my first time attending a party with Xander, and I was feeling improper at the party, surrounded by a crowd of people I didn’t know or understand.

Xander got a little too comfortable as he drank too much, and I began getting worried that he was going to get himself into trouble.

No matter what I tried saying to him, he just shrugged me off until he was fully intoxicated, worse still Alexis he had said wanted me was nowhere to be found.

I spent my whole time there stopping him from creating a mess, and when it was finally time to go, he weirdly offered me a drink.

“Come on, baby, you have done nothing here but stop me from getting drunk, which you failed too woefully.

“What are you saying!”

“Just one drink,” he pleaded drunkenly, pushing the glass he had gotten from his friend toward me.

I stared at him skeptically, but he urged.

“I promise it won't hurt. You'll feel better, I promise.” I still hesitated, knowing that driving while intoxicated was dangerous.

“My friends are watching, please Just take it, Just this once”, I would rather not disappoint him.

Reluctantly, I took the glass and took a small sip. The liquid burned my throat, and I could feel it going to my head already. I knew I shouldn't have listened to him, but I found myself gulping down the liquid.

When we arrived at the apartment, I was slowly feeling dizzy, and I was bothered about how the liquor was slowly taking effect on me.

As I helped him to the room, my head was spinning, and I felt like I was drifting in and out of consciousness.

The room seemed to be spinning around me, and I was struggling to focus on anything. His words were fuzzy and distant, but I could make out his intentions.

“Just this once baby” he whispered, and I tried to speak, to say no, but my words wouldn't come out. All I could do was watch in horror as he leaned closer. “I need you, Baby”

“No," I finally managed to croak out.

“Please, I'm not ready, Xander.” But it either didn't seem to hear me or chose to ignore me. He kept moving closer, and I felt sick to my stomach.

That was happening, but I couldn't believe what was happening. In a last desperate attempt, I tried to push him away, but my hands were shaking, and my movements were weak. I felt like she was trapped, with no way to escape.

Xander’s expression swiftly changed from eager to furious instantly as his eyes narrowed, and his face turned red with rage.

“How dare you say no to me!” he shouted, his voice booming through the room.

“You're mine, and you'll do as I say! I fucking drugged the drink for this and there is no denying me this"

“I’ve been waiting long enough, and I want you now! l my heart sunk even further, and it was then I realized how much danger I was in.

I swiftly stood up and as I tried to back away, he grabbed my arm and pulled me close. With all the strength I could muster, I pushed him away and ran out the door.

I sprinted down the sidewalk, my heart pounding in my chest with tears spilling down my eyes.

I could hear Xander calling after me, but I didn't look back. I just kept running, trying to put as much distance between us as possible.

Just as I turned the corner, I saw the car coming straight toward me. She tried to stop, but it was too late. The last thing I remembered was the sound of screeching tires and the impact of the collision and I struggled to stay conscious, I heard a familiar voice call out, “Aubrey!”.

And then, everything went black.
