One Stubborn Ass

Aubrey's POV

The door slammed shut, reverberating through the house. A rustling sound was heard, and I wondered what he was unwrapping.

He returned to the room with clothes; a pair of jeans and a flannel shirt hanging from his hands. What is going on here? I thought.

“ You can wear this.” He stretched them forward to me.

“ I want to leave,” I said and stood up. This time, my legs cooperated with me. I slipped my leg into the footwear beside the bed.

“ You can't leave.”

My head shot up at his statement. “ You are holding me prisoner?”

He rolled his eyes, "You know what I mean.”

I shook my head. “ No, I don't know what you mean. What I'm hearing is someone who wants to keep me here against my will. This is called kidnap, you know that.” I retorted and adjusted my dress.

He pinched the bridge of his nose in irritation. “ You are one stubborn lass.” He said.

“ That's why you treated me poorly. I am leaving, and you will not stop me.”

“ Xander might be at your house.”

“ I will deal with him. Anything else?” I breezed past him, and he caught my hand before I got to the door.

“ At least change into something presentable.” He eyed my gown, and my eyes mirrored his actions.

My gown was not just an inch above my knee, and he was complaining. I am not his child. “ No, can do,” I replied and headed downstairs.

“ You will be the death of me.” He mumbled under his breath, but I caught it.

“ What did you say?”

“ This dress is too short. You can't…" He trailed off when I gave him the stink eye.

“ Thanks for your hospitality, Mr. Knight, but I have to go home now. I have tons of assignments to finish. Especially yours.” I said.

“You don't have to come in tomorrow.”

I halted, "Are we playing nepotism now? I didn't think you would be caught up in such a situation.” I said.

He pinned me with a chill stare, fury flared in his eyes.” I will let you go on the condition that you will not come to school tomorrow. Is that understood?” He asked in a guttural tone.

Instead of fear, my skin threatened to break out in goosebumps, I loved the texture of his voice, a mixture of baritone and… Aubrey, stay on course, I told myself. “ You are not my father,” I replied with spunk and walked away.

He caught up with me at the doorstep, "I will drive you home.” He said, leaving no room for argument, and I followed him wordlessly.

I was not stupid to reject his offer.

Thirty minutes later, we arrived at the terminal leading to my house. “ Stop the car here.”

 "Why?”

“ I don't want people seeing you drop me off. In case, you have forgotten, you are my professor.”

His lips tilted into a smirk.” I like the sound of that.”  He replied nonchalantly.

Oh boy, his smirk was a lethal weapon. A woman could get unalive from his lips. What I wouldn't give to have a taste of his lips. I shook my head to get rid of those images. Damn! They were hot. I began to recite the Alphabet backward.

His smirk grew when he noticed my stare. It was as if he knew the reason.

I frowned when I noticed that he was driving me home.  "I find it hard to believe that you don't care for your reputation,” I said.

“ Hmm.” He drummed his well-manicured fingers on the steering wheel. These fingers could. Shit! This car was messing with my brain. My attraction was growing rapidly to him.

He pulled up in my driveway," How do you know where I live?” I asked.

He shrugged, “Don't tell me you are stalking me?” I gasped. “How did you know where I was earlier? It wasn't a coincidence, was it?” I fired at him. Oh my goodness, my best friend's father was stalking me! I screamed internally.

He switched off the engine, "Will you take a breather?” He asked after I finished hyperventilating.

“ You didn't answer my questions.”

“ You already know the answer to them.” He turned. Under the car lights, his eyes turned a darker shade of blue. What the hell?

“ I don't know.”

“ Okay.”

Okay? He wasn't going to explain anything? I hope he wasn't one of those narcissists, What was I even saying, for goodness’s sake?

His hand closed over mine, and warmth settled over me like a blanket in the cold. I jerked my hand away. “I'll walk you to the door.” He said softly.

“ No!” I replied and tried to open the door.  It was locked. With annoyance, I turned to him, "Open this door.”

He perused my face, "You need to relax. You looked spooked.” He said and reached for my hand.

I ground my teeth together. “ Don't… Just open the freaking door.” I said, careful not to make a noise because of my neighbors.

“ Not until you breathe.” He refused, and we engaged in a staring match. It lasted for almost an hour. That's quite an exaggeration.

When I noticed that I was beginning to lose the battle, I sighed. “ Just let me out, and don't walk me to the door. I don't want scandals.” I said softly. Not only that, but I came here to lie low and be free from trouble.

He nodded, and the doors clicked, I opened the door and walked to the door. He shone his headlights, and I bent to check for my key under my flower pot.

He horned, but I didn't look back. I inserted the key into the keyhole, opened the door, and entered my apartment. I peeped through the window and saw him wait for two minutes before driving away.

Whew! Today has been tough. I flicked the switch and turned and received a great shocking sight. Xander sprawled on my sofa.

“ What the hell are you doing here?” I shouted.
