Don’t Touch Me

Aubrey's POV,

Fucking hell! I muttered as my head pounded violently, like a hammer was having a field day. What the hell? I groaned loudly and rubbed my head.

A hand touched me and I felt a tingling. Even in my painful state, I knew whose hand it was. Mr. Knight!

I finally opened my eyes, My head hurt, and my body ached like I had been run over by a truck. I needed to sleep. The unfamiliar house came into my view and “Don't touch me.” I muttered.

Mr. Knight stared at me with hurt in his eyes, and that tugged at my heartstrings.

“That's no way to greet the man who saved your life.”

Stretching a steaming cup, "Here's a cup of coffee. It's black. Your head must be banging.” He said calmly, and that irritated the hell out of me.

“ I don't want it,” I replied and attempted to rise from the bed. I fell flat on my ass. Ouch! I hissed in pain. Mr. Knight was at my side instantly.

“ Easy…. Please take it easy.” He said and held my waist to support me.

Electricity ran through my body, this time stronger than before, and I got pissed. How dare he have this effect on me after everything he had done? “ Get your filthy hands off me!” I warned and sat on the bed. My legs felt like needle pines.

“ You don't mean that”

I let out deep laughter that sounded alien to me, "Oh, I do. I really do. Not only that, but I don't want your filthy hands on me.” I stared into his eyes.

His pupils darkened, and his nostrils flared in anger at my tone. Good, that was the reaction I was aiming for. He thought that an act of kindness would cause me to forget.

“ You should be taking this out on your… boyfriend.” He grunted.

I rolled my eyes, "Maybe, possibly not.”

He crossed his arms over each other , “ You can't be serious right now.” He asked in a baffled tone.

“ It is what it is,” I replied and looked away from his intense gaze.  I knew that I was acting childish, but I just wanted to hurt him the way he did me.

He sighed in exasperation and stared at me with a hint of frustration and controlled anger. He pinched the bridge of his nose. “ Aubrey, I don't know what this is all about.” He waved his hand like he was dealing with a petulant child. “But you need to drink this to help with the headache.”

His lips looked inviting, very plump and ripe… Oh! shit! Don't think about him like that! I chided myself. “ I'm fine.” I attempted to rise. I had almost reached the door when my legs gave way and I fell on my bum.

I closed my eyes as embarrassment washed over me. So much for going out in style.

His footsteps drew nearer. “ You are one stubborn girl.” He said and carried me back to bed like a feather. This man is strong. No, the brain doesn't go in that route.

“ You need to calm down.” He said sternly. Something in his tone made me listen.

When he saw that I was not making a beeline for the door, he stretched the now warm coffee to me. “ Sip this.” He said, and I took it hesitantly.

A flicker of hurt crossed his eyes, but he masked it.” It's not poisoned.” He replied.

“ I can't be so sure.” I replied and shrugged, "It could be drugged.” I added. After all, that is what Xander did. Speaking of Xander, who would have ever imagined that such a wimpy kid would attempt…

“ What happened last night?” He asked softly with curiosity in his eyes. His eyes were fixated on me, and I looked small. Naked concern shone in his eyes as he inspected me.

“ Nothing,” I replied, and took a sip, hiding my face behind the cup.

“ That's not so delicious. I remember that you hate black coffee.” He said. Every so often, I forgot that this man was almost two decades older than I am.

“ Maybe my taste buds have become accustomed to this,” I replied nonchalantly, playing along. Why couldn't he let it slide? I just wanted to leave.

“ Tell me, please.” He said tenderly and touched my hand.

My anger flew out of the window, as my gaze fell to where his hands made contact with my skin. I felt warm all over immediately, a bit of being hot and bothered. My mouth fell open, freeing my tongue as if I were before a confessor.

“ I… I was…"

A rude knock interrupted my speech and I closed my eyes. What is wrong with you? I asked myself. At a touch, you were ready to tell him your life data?

“ I'll get that.” He said and walked away.

“ Good morning, sir.” The person greeted.

I wasn't expecting the visitor to be Xander. “ What the hell are you doing here?” I asked him when he entered the room. “ After all you have done, you have the guts to show your face here?” I asked again. His guts amazed me.

He went on his knees and made a prayer posture, “I'm sorry, I really am. I wasn't thinking.”

I scoffed, "That's what you always do. You're never thinking. When will you start?”

Mr. Knight coughed at the insult, and Xander kept watching me. “ Are you here to cause me more pain?”  I challenged.

“ I can't, please hear me out! I can explain.”

Good riddance, "The lays says she is not interested.” Mr. Knight chirped in.

Xander turned toward me. “ Why are you in his house?”

Mr. Knight walked closer to him. “ Another minute spent here, and I will tear your limbs one after the other.” He threatened Xander, who looked at me.

“I'll give you some time to chill, I'll be back later.” He replied, and my hands shook. I felt like punching the son of a gun in his face.

“ You heard the lady, bounce.” I heard Mr. Knight tell him before drawing him out by the tip of his clothes like he was a piece of paper.
