The Dream

He wished he could know who was so cruel enough to kill a newborn baby and to top it off that baby didn’t even get a chance to see what this world was like. He also hated the fact that he couldn’t even tell where she was born and who killed her.

“Anna Fortune,” he said as he found the name sounds familiar and the way the name rolled of his tongue was like he was accustomed to saying that name. He didn’t know why he felt the name familiar and he wanted to think about where he had heard the name before.

Lee leaned his head on the backrest of his chair before turning the chair to face the world view, he then closed his eyes, and then suddenly the dream he had from the night before he woke up that morning returned.

In the dream, he could clearly see a young girl that looked around fifteen sitting behind a desk busy writing on a sheet of paper. Her hair was black but was cut in an uneven way, it was clear that she was also malnourished but that didn’t take the beauty away from her.

He noticed that the dream took place in a classroom setting, and the girl was sitting to the extreme back of the classroom next to the window as she was busy writing. It was clear that she was calm and confident and didn’t bother to frown or think much about what she was writing.

He would notice that every few minutes she would raise her head and look towards the blackboard, something that was supposed to be outdated by now but it was clear signs that this school was poor and didn’t have proper resources to make the necessary changes.

It was only when he looked at the blackboard did he see a start time and a stop time and above the board was a clock that was showing how much time left they had. He then realized that the young girl who had hazel brown eyes and dark brown which was very close to black hair was doing an exam.

There was still half an hour before the exam ended but he saw the girl stand up and walked over to the front, handing the paper to the invigilator, signing a sheet, and then taking the slip the invigilator handed her.

He followed the girl that was only five feet and three inches tall out of the classroom, “Anna Fortune, stop right there,” a girl shouted behind her. The girl stopped and turned towards the girl that shouted at her.

When the girl arrived in front of her she said, “Exams are still going on, why are you shouting in the corridor?”

“Whatever. I hope you don’t think that you would get the top scholarship,” the girl said.

“It doesn’t matter to me what I get, as long as I get a scholarship for a university,” the girl that was supposed to be named Anna said.

“If you get the top scholarship, I promise you that you wouldn’t get to see the next day,” the girl threatened Anna and walked away.

“What are you doing?” Lee asked when he turned around and saw Michael searching for something on the g****e map.

“I can’t find the orphanage, but I find the name of the country and the town. It is a small island in the Caribbean. I almost missed it as well as it was a dot on the world map. It says that she would be eighteen on the nineteenth of June. According to the laws of the orphanage when an orphan turns eighteen the orphan has to leave the orphanage. It is already the first of June, it wouldn’t hurt to try.”

“She is not my mate,” Lee said, it was clear that from his dream the girl named Anna Fortune was fifteen, but here the cue card was saying that she would turn eighteen.

Three days later, “Boss another one has arrived,” Michael said after walking into the office and closing the door.

“What does it say?” Lee asked but then remembered that he was the only one that could break the seal and open the envelope.  He took the envelope from Michael opened the seal and pulled out another cue card. He then passed it to Michael for him to read.

Michael did the five flips back and front just like his boss would do every time they got an envelope, he then read the five words that were written on the cue card. “Help her. I help you.”

“Sounds like she is threatening me,” Lee said and smirked, as he assumed the informant was female from the pink seal color. “Just ignore it.”

“Yes sir,” Michael said and burned the paper then left the office, just like every other time in order to destroy the evidence that they were getting information from some secret adviser that they didn't even know.

It had only been two hours from the time Michael left before he entered the office again with another envelope and said, “Sir another one.”

“Our informer seems to be closer than we thought, get some of our men to find them,” Lee said as he put down the file he was looking through and picked up another. He didn't bother to break the seal or open the envelope this time, but it was clear that he was getting annoyed and he couldn't handle being threatened by some strange person that he wasn’t sure if they were an ally or an enemy.

“What the hell?” Michael said out loud after a few minutes, his outburst caused Lee to put down the file and look up at him.

“What is it?” Lee asked him, he didn’t like being disturbed while going through the files as he wanted his full attention on it to prevent overlooking any errors that could cause a problem in the business later on.

“Look at your computer screen man,” Michael said as he pointed at the screen. From the shock, Michael had completely forgotten that it was his boss he was talking to and not one of the other workers in the office.

Lee didn’t bother to correct him at that moment, he wanted to see what had startled that strong and undefeatable vampire. It was only when he looked at the screen did he notice the screen was blank and letters were being typed on it.

Lee suddenly thought that his computer was hacked and that someone was playing a prank on him, but it was impossible because no one could intercept his device. There was only one thing that could bypass all forms of security and that was magic, very powerful magic.
