Bitch

“No matron, you know she is always lagging behind so that she wouldn’t have to do the chores,” the girl who was trying to chat up Lee said.

“Lying is a sin,” everyone heard that fine voice.

“I wasn’t lying. If you weren’t always invisible to everyone then people would see you. Don’t you get it, invisible that no one sees you,” the girl said.

“Anna gets inside now, don’t forget you have to help out with the dinner. Girls inside now, don’t forget you have exams going on now and you want to get scholarships for a good university,” the matron said.

After the four girls entered the house Lee asked Michael, “You heard her right? You saw her too right?”

“Yes, well after she spoke. It was like she was invisible,” Michael said. “Boss you saw her last night?”

“Yes, she was the one that put out the garbage, she was also the one looking at us from the window. She was also the one I wanted to shake hands with and she is also my mate,” Lee said looking at the house.

“Mate? How are you show?”

“My wolf told me when she looked at me when I reached out to her. Her soul was also screaming to me to save her from this place and help change her fate.”

“What is she? Unlike the others, I couldn’t tell what she is,” Michael said.

“Neither could I. She has talent though and no one knows about it.”

“What’s that?”

“Be seen when she wants to and hide when she wants to. I don’t understand how I can see her when you can’t,” Lee said.

“Isn’t it because she is your mate?”

“Let’s check out the orphanage,” Lee said and then walked to the house. He then pressed the buzzer, when the door opened he said, “Good afternoon.”

“Good afternoon gentlemen, are you interested in adopting a child?” the woman asked looking at Lee and Michael.

“Something like that,” Michael said while Lee was looking at the place.

“I gather all the children and you can choose the one you are interested in,” the woman said. After ten minutes all the children were standing in front of them along with the three caretakers holding two babies each.

“Hmm,” Lee said looking at them all, “You’re missing one.”

“No, all is here,” the matron said.

“No, that Anna girl is missing,” Lee said as it was clear that Anna wasn’t among the children.

“Anna is not for adoption, there is no one by the name of Anna here,” the matron said. She couldn’t let her next money bag suddenly leave her.

“There is, as a matter of fact, we met at the front gate,” Michael said.

“Fine, Cindy, go get Anna now,” the matron said.

After five minutes Lee and Michael heard someone saying, “Hurry up bitch. The longer you take is the longer you are making my future husband wait.”

They soon saw Anna being pulled by the girl that was older than her, Anna stood to the back of the children. “Matron I see the child I want to adopt,” Lee said.

“Which one?” Matron asked.

“Anna,” Lee said.

“What? No, he can’t adopt her,” Cindy said.

“Why is that?” Michael asked.

“According to our laws, only a child that is younger than eighteen can be adopted,” Cindy said.

“Really? Isn’t she like fourteen or fifteen, wouldn’t that mean she is under eighteen?” Michael asked.

“Bitch, your height is always fooling everyone. The bitch is turning eighteen in thirteen days, which means by the time the paperwork is processed in six weeks she would be an adult and no longer up for adoption. I on the other hand can still be adopted,” Cindy said.

“Matron, can my friend talk to Anna for a few minutes alone preferably,” Michael asked.

“Fine, children return to your studies. Anna five minutes,” the matron said after it was just Michael, Lee, Anna, and the matron in the living room area.

“Sit,” Lee said.

“I am not allowed to sit,” Anna said.

“Are you really turning eighteen soon?”

“Yes.”

“What do you plan when that happens?”

“I am hoping that I get through with a scholarship that would provide me with living accommodation and tuition. I can stay at the university until I get a job and then I can look for a place to stay.”

“I can help you,” Lee said.

“Didn’t you hear what they said? You cannot adopt me,” Anna said.

“There is another way,” Lee said. “What if something happens to you before you get that scholarship?”

“I don’t think that would happen. If so I could stay by someone after my eighteenth birthday,” Anna said.

“What if something happens to you before your eighteenth birthday? Here, keep this. It has my contact number as well as my friend's. I will be here only for two weeks and if you during that time you ever need help call,” Lee said.

“Thanks for the help, but I don’t think I will need it,” Anna said, however, she hid the call card, “I should get back to my chores now,” and then left.

“Four minutes and fifty-nine seconds,” Michael said after Anna walked away.

“What?” Lee asked.

“She spent exactly five minutes talking to you,” Michael said.

“Gentlemen, I am not sure if you are a couple, but if not and you are looking for a wife then I have three young ladies that would be marriageable age soon,” the matron said.

“Really? I thought there were four,” Michael said.

“I believe you have already met them, Cindy is the talkative one, Kelly is the neck length hair and Nicky is the one with the waist-length hair. You could adopt them from now and get to know them, when they turn eighteen you would already know your bride.”

“If there is a bride to be, the girl most like would be Anna,” Michael said. “Oh, what is her full name by the way?”

“Anna Fortune. But then Cindy, Kelly, or Nicky would be better. Cindy will turn eighteen in December. Kelly would turn eighteen in September and Nicky, she would turn eighteen next month. They would be better choices,” the matron said.

“Ma’am we are only here for two weeks, the adoption papers would take too long and we don’t know when we would be coming back again,” Michael said.

“Sorry, gentlemen I really can’t help your friend then. However, is not an option,” she said in a sad voice but there was no way she could get the gentlemen to take away any of the three girls she was willing to offer.

They had arrived at the entrance of the house and were about to leave when suddenly they heard, “Matron I have finished preparing dinner. I would like to go back and study now.”
