Chapter 3

It was dark as I headed to the forest. My body was aching in pain because of tiredness. I don't know how long I have been running and how far I am from the pack.

My lungs were burning, but I just thought that everything would be fine. I could feel my heavy eyes and I wanted to close it for a moment because of tiredness. My legs wanted to give in, but I forced myself to continue. I know I was near my uncle's house. It's the only place I know that I could stay with.

I suddenly heard footsteps behind me, which made me stop walking. I could already feel my fast heartbeats when the footsteps were getting nearer in my direction.

“W-who's there?” I asked nervously, and was making myself stronger for whatever awaited me.

I was suddenly stunned on my feet when something appeared in front of me. I stepped my legs backward when a black and a red-eye wolf was now smirking while staring at me. He wanted to eat me, I could feel it the way he looked at me.

This wolf must be hungry, and I was his target. Now I'm scared for my life. I have no idea how I could escape from this hungry wolf.

“Please… Stay away from me!” I shouted when the wolf was preparing himself to attack me. He was about to climb when I shielded myself using my two hands. However, I felt a strong force that came out from my body. I opened my eyes and stared at the poor wolf. He was blown away and now lying on the ground unconscious.

“What just happened?” I asked in amusement. My eyes narrowed at the surroundings to make sure that no one came to help me, but I saw nothing until I realized something. I got up from sitting on the ground and ran away. I was still confused about the force I have felt and of how the wolf was blown away from me.

There are many questions popping up in my head and I know someone who could answer me about it.

Hours passed by and my body was so tired. I stopped running as I felt like I was going to faint. My head was aching and my vision started to darkened until I fell down to the ground with my eyes shut and everything just went black.

“Margaux? Dear? Please wake up? Could you please hear me?”

I slowly opened my eyes when I heard someone calling my name. His voice soothed my asleep self. I saw a familiar face of a man who looked worried about me.

His brows were arching as he stared at me. Therefore, I got up from lying on the ground and narrowed my eyes around the place until it widened. I just realized that I was already in my uncle's territory and the sun had risen.

“Uncle Joe? Is that you?” I asked as I turned in his direction. He kneeled in front of me and smiled.

“Yes, Honey. This is your uncle Joe, and you surprised me. What are you doing here?” He asked, and I suddenly remembered what exactly happened earlier.

The exact scenario when my mate had rejected me. When my family abandoned me and when the people from the pack bullied me. It came back to my senses, everything that I went through in their hands.

“It's… A very long story, uncle Joe. I didn't want to go back there.” I said in my sad voice. Uncle Joe helped me to get up from my knees and even brought me inside his home. He gives me water to drink and food to eat. I was so thirsty and hungry for running last night.

It surprised me too because my legs brought me to my uncle's house the moment I fainted.

“Is there something wrong with you in the pack? Did your father beat you again?” I suddenly stopped eating my food when I heard what my uncle had said.

Uncle Joe is my father's twin brother. They are really the same. From the face and the voice. It seems like I was only talking to my dad. Uncle Joe was the best uncle I ever had. He and dad were not on good terms. Uncle Joe was living here for many decades, hiding from dad. No one knows about his whereabouts aside from me. I discovered that he was here when I was lost in the forest when I was still a child. I met uncle Joe and during that day, this is the place I used to visit when I wanted to escape from dad.

“My mate had rejected me, uncle.” I responded in my cracked tone.

“Who's that asshole? He must be a jerk for rejecting my beautiful niece!” Uncle reacted, and I couldn't stop chuckling.

“You won't believe it, uncle, but my mate was Alpha Jace. We were supposed to be mated last night, but in front of everyone… He rejected me because I'm wolf-less and weak.” I said in my bitter tone. Uncle Joe just held my two hands and I know he's worried about me.

My tears were about to fall from my eyes, but I held it back. I'm just so tired of crying all night.

“You are not wolf-less and weak, Honey. Alpha Jace is just a jerk for seeing you like that. He didn't see your worth.” I smiled from what my uncle had told me, but it didn't reach my eyes.

“Maybe they were right, uncle. I am really worthless because even until now, I was still wolf-less and weak. I'm already 18 years old, and I should have my wolf.” I just shrugged my shoulders while saying those words to him.

“Is that all? You will just let them downgrade you like that, Honey? Don't tell me you are going to believe them that you are weak and wolf-less?” I furrowed my brows at what my uncle had said, and he was even smirking.

“What do you mean by that, uncle?”

“You should prove to him that you are not weak and wolf-less. I believe in you, Darling. He must regret rejecting you in the end.” Uncle Joe said that made me smile.

He was right. I am not weak and wolf-less as they thought I was. I can make a change and I will prove them wrong. Someday, they'll be able to see a better version of me.
