Chapter 4

Anonymous

Once Trent left the room, locking all four locks, he was soon heading downstairs quickly to clean up his bloody hands and shoes. He was fuming, livid. Him always being the one to lose his temper quickly amongst his two brothers.

Once he was out of sight, he made his way to the door, unlocking it with a bobby pin. It was hard no doubt, but it needed to be done before anyone found out. He had seen them come in and out of this room for years, no one being the wiser that Emerald was being held in there. Everyone thought she was dead.

When he got the forth lock unlocked, he pushed open the door. But something was different this time.

He expected to hear her slow heartbeat, as he had previous times before.

But he didn't hear anything.

That quickened his motions and went further inside to find her on the floor, looking lifeless. It wasn't for the lack of audibleness from her heart, he wouldn't be so nervous. He knelt down in front of her and began to shake her lifeless body.

"Emerald," he said. "Emerald!"

No response. He put his fingers on her pulse and felt something, anything. But to no avail. She was dead. The guilt set in his bones and the anger began to rise but he contained himself as best he could.

Through his angry state, he privately mind-linked Debra. "Debra, I need you in Emerald's room- now!"

He knew she heard it and she didn't bother responding because he eventually heard her footsteps coming up the stairs to the attic. She opened the shut door, looking confused and her eyes soon made its way to Emerald, laying lifeless in his arms.

"Is she..."

He nodded his head.

Debra couldn't contain herself like him. She brought her shaking hand to her mouth, silencing her muffled screams. She was shaking in anger and pure sadness. Tears streamed down her face and she looked as if she was going to fall to the floor any moment.

He quickly placed Emerald in her bed and captured Debra in his arms before she fell. She shook heavily in his arms, sobbing in his chest. "How could they do this to her?!" she screamed. "They killed her!"

He brought her tightly in his chest, muffling her screams. It didn't matter because no one could hear them in this sound proof room but he still held her tightly. Tears began to roll down his face, tears of anger and sadness. He was beyond angry at the fact that they could do this to her, their own blood. She spent years up her, alone, just to be beaten to a pulp by her only blood relatives.

Through their grieving, a light began to reflect off Emerald.

It went unnoticed to him and Debra but pretty soon it was blinding. Opening their eyes and stepping apart, they looked at Emerald's body and saw that her skin was reflecting a bright light, her skin illuminating.

Stepping closer, they begin to see her scars and bruises slowly begin to disappear. The swelling in her face and torso were soon gone. The anorexic state of her body plumped to a regular one. Her skin that was once pale, grew tan like every werewolf. Her lips became plump, her sunken eyes went back to normal. She was still skinny no doubt but she looked... lively.

Not long after, the light began to lessen and soon it was gone.

He walked over to her, wiping his tears, and felt for her pulse again. And once more, she didn't have one.

"I don't understand," he mumbled to himself. "She healed herself but... she's still dead."

Debra, who was quiet during this, came to a realization. "We need to get her out of here, quickly."

"And take her where?"

"To the border, to see Malena."

"Mal-" he paused. "The witch? I thought that was just a rumor."

"Listen to me, I will stay here to differ attraction from her brothers, but you need to get her body to Malena quickly."

"I don't even know where she lives."

"Keep your mind set on her and you'll find her. Do not question me, you just need to do it." Debra went to a small box in the corner of Emerald's room. It held the small portion of clothes she had. Pulling out some slightly thick black Capri leggings along with a soft knit, long-sleeve shirt, she began to change her.

While Debra did this, he stood watch outside the room, listening for any movements from her brother's downstairs. From the sounds of it, everyone was sleeping. No doubt that the warrior's were on post but he knew a way around them where he wouldn't gain their attention. He was still nervous about making it to this witch's house, whom he didn't know existed on the pack's territory, and make it back without anyone the wiser.

Debra called for him and soon came back inside. She had placed a thin blanket around Emerald and turned to him to pick her up. He did so easily. He began to walk to the door carefully but Debra soon stopped him.

"Wait," she said. He turned around confused with Emerald still in his arms. She walked up to them, reaching her hand into her apron pocket, taking something out. She undid her hand and placed something around her neck carefully.

"What is that?" he questioned.

"A necklace," she responded simply. "It was to be buried with her mother, her brothers didn't want her to have it. But since I was the one who tended to her body, I took it for Emerald. I was going to wait till she turned twenty, that's what her mother would've wanted. But considering the circumstances, she needs it now." She sniffled, a tear running down her face. "I should've given it to her sooner."

"What-"

"No more questions. You need to go while everyone is still sleeping."

He nods his head and Debra kisses Emerald's forehead before opening the door and they silently walk out of the soundproof room. They silently climbed down the stairs, careful not to step on the squeaky ones.

After making it out, they made their way downstairs to the kitchen which had a backdoor. From there, he was alone, running with Emerald in his arms. As instructed, he kept his mind on Malena. He had no idea where he was going but his legs were taking him somewhere.

At times he'd look down at Emerald's corpse in his arms, and see the gleaming of the necklace on her chest.

He didn't know what was going on but he hoped something good would come from this.
