Chapter 31
He stood at the door and looked at me. His eyes said it all. After I left the hospital yesterday, he called me several times, and I never answered it. We were going to have to talk about it sooner or later. \"Come in.\"I said softly. It was strange for me, seeing him here without his wheelchair. Though I had hoped he would recover, during the two years we were together, I had gotten used to it. \"Joy, you go to your room.” I think the child sensed from my tone that I was serious, and a bit upset. I poured him a glass of water, and the two of us sat on the sofa, silent. Finally, he broke the silence. \"Sarah, I\'m sorry.\" Actually, I don\'t blame him for anything. I just didn’t know how to say it. That he was right, that I’d stayed with him mostly because of his injured leg. He’d done so much for me, I didn’t have the heart to tell him I felt nothing for him. In a way, it was all my fault. I could never

Chapter 32
I clenched my fist, and my nails dug into my flesh, while I said these words. God knows how much I wish this man loved me like the way he loved Maureen. But the truth is, I\'m just a silly fool. He strode over, holding my head firmly, frowning and shouting, \"Look into my eyes, and tell me you don’t have me in your heart? Sarah, you lie!\" \"Enough! What\'s your purpose of trying to get close to me, you think I don\'t know? I won\'t be fooled by you any more. You want to take my baby! You want Maureen to be my child’s mother!\" I was trying very hard not to cry, but my tears fell down anyway. \"What? Why would I do that? I have nothing to do with her!\" \"Nothing to do with her? She\'s pregnant with your child!\" Marcus Mo has a beautiful eyebrow, frowning more tightly. \"What child? What are you talking about?\" \"Ask Maureen. I don\'t care about you. And please leave my house. Please don\'t come back.\"

She looked down at her belly, smiled wryly, and looked at me with red eyes. \"Sarah, you win.\" Maureen smiled at me, but her tears fell. I wondered what had happened to her. Though I wanted to ask questions, I just let her speak. \"I thought Marcus cared about me, but in the end, I was just deceiving myself. It\'s all my fault. I was so anxious to keep Marcus by my side, so I tried to have his child.” Maureen cried as she spoke. “I\'m so stupid. Marcus Mo is too smart for me, and now he made me abort this child.\" \"Why, what happened?\" Marcus had spoiled her as his younger sister, and as his lover he doted on her. I couldn’t believe what she’d just said. How can he kill their child so ruthlessly? It could not be because he thought the child may end up with genetic abnormalities, since they weren’t actually related by blood. \"Don\'t act like you feel sorry for me, Sarah. My child is gone. Shouldn’t you be happy?\" She

As soon as I stood up, I fell and hit the table. I don\'t know if I’d gotten up too quickly. I felt dizzy. I wanted to get as far away from her as I could. I couldn’t walk straight. Every step I took, the more intense it got. I staggered forward. Confused, I saw two figures on the opposite side of the road. A man and woman were both wearing hats, but I could see their profiles clearly! My Mom and Dad! \"Dad, mom!\" I was anxious to run after them, but two strong men sandwiched me between them, holding my arm and walking me to the corner. \"Who are you?\" Let go of me!” I wanted to yell at them, but I slurred so bad even I couldn’t understand what I was saying. \"Oh, honey!” Maureen said as she walked to me. “Oh you poor thing!” I could barely support myself, and the men held me up by a tree. Laughing, she swatted me on the butt. “You really are such a gullible little girl, and to think we’re related.” When I woke

When the men saw that Marcus Mo was alone, the men were relieved. They all rubbed their hands and fists and walked towards Marcus Mo with a sneer. The man had partially undressed me. My pants fell down to my thighs and it made it difficult for me to run, but I managed to get it back up. Marcus Mo winked at me, and I ran to him obediently. One of the men had the presence of mind to try and catch me, but I had reached Marcus Mo. I went behind him for protection. In an instant, my heart felt at ease. But my mind knew that we were outnumbered. \"Go to the car.\" Marcus Mo said to me. “Untie me,” I said. “Goddammit, Summer. Get in!” I didn\'t move. I couldn’t let Marcus Mo defend me by himself, I wanted to help. I was pretty sure there was something I could do. Annoyed, he took a small swiss knife out of his pocket and cut off the rope. After freeing me, he pushed me gently to the direction of the car. \"Come on, don\

\"He is, despite everything.\" I turned my head to look at Marcus Mo\'s smiling face. He never really smiled at me before. He always had a cold look on his face. It\'s the first time he really smiled at me, the first time he seemed happy in my company. \"Was it good?\" Marcus Mo asked me with a low smile. \"I don’t know, how can I tell?\" I turned my head to one side and found that it was dark outside. I sat up and began to put on my clothes. \"It\'s so late. How\'s Joy?\" I got out of bed in a hurry and ran to the opposite side. Joy was lying on the sofa, sleeping. The nanny had dozed off beside her. Groggily, the nanny stood up and exclaimed, \"Miss Tang, you are back at last. I need to go. My family is waiting for me.\" I apologized and paid her extra, in addition to the two days she had looked after my daughter. I carried Joy to the room. Thinking of what happened today, it ended on a pleasant note b

My flight was scheduled for 3 p.m. We had breakfast together. “My car had to be repaired,” Marcus began. “The battery weakened the day after…that incident. This morning it died completely.\" My car was bought recently so I’d have a convenient way to get around here in China. I don\'t use it much except for buying food in the morning. Today I am leaving, so naturally I didn\'t need to buy any groceries. \"Sure,\" I nodded. “You can keep it. Ill borrow it every time I want to go back home for a vacation.” Today should be the last day I see his face. I loved him so much that I had to protect myself from him. I’ve been hurt over and over by this love I felt for him. \"By the way, how are you and Tom?\" He suddenly raised his head and asked me, and when he mentioned Tom , his eyebrows frowned. Marcus Mo has repeatedly asked about my marriage with Tom , and part of the reason I didn’t want to get back with him was because I was worried

Tom looked at Joy, and said with a smile, \"Joy, go to the room and count to 100. If you finish counting to 100, we will go to Jobee later!\" Jobee was short for Jollibee, Joy’s favorite restaurant. Joy squealed and went into the room, and Tom said to me, \"Turn on the TV.\" I turned on the TV, and the breaking news was being broadcast. \"This morning, a woman was found in an abandoned warehouse in the south of the city. The women was covered with bruises and has traces of suspected sexual assault. The woman has been taken into custody.\" Although the woman’s face had been blurred to protect her identity I still recognized from her body and clothing that it was Maureen. I was shocked. What scared me even more was what Tom had just said to me. He said, it was a gift for me. That means that he was expecting me to be happy to hear it. And that he was responsible for it. I was suddenly sure that I barely knew the man

In the photo, I was wearing a white dress and smiled brilliantly. I don’t remember when this photo was taken. In fact, I couldn\'t remember when I laughed so happily around Marcus Mo. When we were together, I was always terrified. How could I smile this happily? Well, it was a candid photo. Maybe I was with my parents, or my friends. Maybe I was with Tom . The background was blurred, but it was an old photo. It must have been taken with one of those big, high-end cameras, since phones and regular cameras back then didn’t have the capability to blur the background like that. The more important question was, how did Marcus Mo have my photos? The next picture was a portrait of me. It was my college graduation photo. My heart pounding, I opened the computer folder. There were more than 500 pictures in it. I was in each one. From when I was 12 up to when I was 25. Seeing these photos brought back a deluge of memories. The first time I met Marcu

Chapter 40
\"That year, the Tang family was already in crisis. I didn\'t help them out. You had run away from me at the hospital, and I wanted to find you so desperately that I took advantage of the crisi to bring you out. Someone had secretly dealt the company the final blow, and the Tang clan went bankrupt in the evening. I already suspected that Maureen may have something to do with it, but there was simply no evidence. It was by coincidence that I found an earring in her room, exactly the same as the one found at the crime scene. I think she was involved in your parents\' death. In other words, it may not have been suicide at all, it was very likely murder. I’m just guessing, but I promise I’ll find out.\" This was nothing new to me, I had found this out long ago. I had stabbed Marcus Mo, thinking he had done it. I can\'t think of how sorry I would have been if I had killed him. Fortunately, he is still alive. Even if we can\'t be together, I want him to be safe. Also, I’v
