Chapter 1

The Night of the Mating

Aside from that, he also scented unfamiliar wolves in the house. Four werewolves to be exact. One with a powerful and fearful aura while the rest of the three were common betas and omegas.

But he could barely identify if they were from the same packs as his family because his parents did not get the chance to teach him about everything. For them, Nathan was not the kind of wolf who is ideal for battles. They believed that he has no skills and talents.

"What the hell happened here?" he muttered to himself before pulling the phone from his pocket. He was certain his entire family was not in the house but left those unexplained traces of their terrible expressions and blood.

At first, he dialed his mum's digits but he heard the ringing inside his parents' room. The same thing that happened to his dad. But his younger brother was not allowed to have his phone yet.

"Shit," he added with a curse. "Where are they?" he pushed the door of his parents' room, thinking his scent might just have been mistaken, and that he could find them inside. However, no one is inside. Not even his younger brother.

And his anxiety started to emerge when he left out of thoughts and reasons for their disappearance. His parents will never leave their phones in the room if they leave the house. They always reach out to him if they have errands to do.

It was at this moment his dad and younger brother appeared in the house covered with blood. Their eyes were swollen in disparate His little brother kept on sweeping while wrapping his arms around his dad.

Noah tried to rush toward Nathan but to his surprise, their dad, Leon, immediately pulled him back, away from Nathan, not allowing him to get any closer.

"It's all your fault. Melissa should still be alive if not because of you, you monster!" said his dad in a regretting tone.

"What?" Nathan inhaled shortly, releasing the inquisitive tone out of his chest. "Dad, I don't understand. What are you talking about?" then he dragged his gaze to Noah.

"Maybe it's time for you to know the truth about you, Nathan." His dad suddenly covered Noah's ears which confused Nathan the most. "There were wolves searching for you."

Nathan curved the tip of his brows in utter confusion. He could barely comprehend what his dad meant by his statement. As far as he could remember, Rodney was the only wolf who he got argued with. And it hasn't been a day since it happened.

Aside from that, he barely sensed Rodney's presence in the house. "Dad, I'm not following. What's going on? And who are those wolves searching for me?"

"They killed your mum because she didn't give you up even if you are not our son. We never had a son who is half-cyborg. No doctors or experts can do that in this town. And we have no money that much to pay to fix your body." His dad retorted before setting Noah behind him.

"So, you mean..." Nathan cut off his thoughts when his tears began to fall to his cheeks. "No. Please, tell me dad you're just fooling around. Let me talk to mum. I want to know the answer from her."

Nathan helplessly dropped his butt on the floor. The electrical energy in his metallic legs was about to drain, accompanied by the tightening of his breath. His throat also began to dry. Even if he dragged a few drops of water down to his throat, he still felt dried out.

"Before your mum died, she asked me to do this to you. For you to know the truth." The tone of his dad suddenly changed. It cooled down, feeling pity for Nathan. Then, he clapped his arms around Nathan's head and showed him a vision of the past.

Leon's special ability as a wolf was to share everything his eyes have seen and his brain had remembered with anyone he touched. Nathan, on the other hand, is still unaware of what he can do as a wolf.

Because of his disability, he knew nothing about the critical information about being a wolf. Leon and his wife agreed in unison to just simply let Nathan enjoy his life, especially when he is not allowed to shift because they were afraid they can't get his legs back.

Meanwhile, the color of Nathan's eyes suddenly turned all glimmering white like a lamp illuminated out of his face. He felt the continuous tickling current that runs through his veins as though he got electrocuted. Lastly, his entire strength was absorbed from his body, giving him no choice but to withdraw his will to remove Leon's hands from his face.

Afterward, flashes of lights have resembled vivid memories of the past got linked and were played in Nathan's werewolf system. All information that has shared by his dad was new to his memories.

Ten minutes later, he took the courage deep beneath his heart to remove Leon's hands away from him. Thereafter, he rushed as far away as possible from what he considered home. Away from his dad.

He doesn't know where his metallic legs could lead him. What matters to him was to stop the misfortune that was eagerly tailing him off.

The next morning, Ellen started to feel worried for Nathan when he did not go to their classes. Not to mention the news about his mum's death has reached the school.

"Is everything all right, Ellen?" Rodney shuttered off her profound thoughts. Being seated behind her, there is no reason Rodney could not feel her moment of silence, especially when she was not used to being less talkative.

"Get to me straight, Rodney because I'm gonna ask you even if it's against my will. Did you pay someone to kill him or his family?" Ellen straightly asked him. She did not even give a damn when most of their classmates heard it.

Rodney could not help but curve the tip of his brows while scanning Ellen's facial expression. "You mean, that metallic boy Nathan?" He immediately read what was in her mind. Then he bursts out laughing.

"So, it was you then?" Ellen made it clear.

"Of course, no. Why would I do that? Even if we have argued yesterday, I know he can do nothing to me. He's a useless wolf. We don't need him in the pack, Ellen." Rodney straightened his school uniform shortly. "And besides, you know better than that. You can hear my heartbeat if I'm lying, Ellen."

At some point, Rodney's anger and hatred towards Nathan even extended. He hated Ellen talking about Nathan in front of him. He has been courting her for years but never heard the best answer he longed to hear.

He was hoping it was not his mum who died in the incident but him. "But I can't force you to believe me either. As soon as I will become the alpha, you will now be before me. And I can't wait to see that happen."

This time, it was Ellen who bent his brows downward after hearing about how sarcastic and unrealistic it sounded to her ears. She only asked about Nathan but he already talked more. Not to mention his threatening statement.

For her, there was no doubt Rodney will take place his parents' position as the alpha of the pack, but it doesn't mean she has to bow under his feet when that happens. If there is a chance that she could challenge him into a battle, she would rather take the opportunity.

She was born to become a warrior but Rodney isn't. If not because he came from a wealthy and powerful lineage, he was nothing compared to Ellen.

"Anyway, there's a sacred feast in the mansion tonight. All members of the pack are required to attend. See you later." he added in a calm tone. He had to because that certain night is the only opportunity that he had to pick his mate. And he chooses Ellen.

Making her mad at him might jeopardize his plan. Rodney knows he could barely find someone like her in town. The worst part was he can't take it if someone might get her first than him.

Later that evening, everyone who was eighteen years old in that same year started arriving at the mansion including Ellen wearing a long green gown that even glowed her one-of-a-kind beauty and her heirloom green jade ring her mum turned over to her which they think would give her luck and wisdom.

However, part of her wanted to back out of that event. She plans to stay at home, sleep, and forget that kind of event for a wolf existed.

She knew Rodney has planned this all along for her to become his mate. And she would rather choose to become a lone wolf rather than be with him. But the feast was too much sacred for a wolf.

All she thinks she must do was avoid him in the event as much as possible. Whoever she met in the woods other than Rodney, she will take the chance to be his mate.

" A blessed evening ladies and gentlemen!" that was Vladimir, Rodney's dad, present alpha of the Crescent Moon Pack. "Tonight, we are gathered around from different parts of the world to witness and join this very sacred and one-time in a year event. The Mating..."

While Vladimir was still busy with his speech, Rodney has already had an eye for Ellen, standing across from him in the hallway. Ellen, on the other hand, was still on the bridge planning her strategy to avoid Rodney.

There were around fifty females and males combined around the mansion's grand terrace. Each of them already had their chosen mates. However, a few of them also have their eyes on Rodney which Ellen thinks is her advantage.
