Chapter Five

Sofia received an email from Camila the next day, it was a job opening a club was looking for the services of a waitress and Camila sent her the link and job description.

Sofia thought hard about it but she didn’t like the fact that she was going to be in contact with people again but she thought of a job that she could do that doesn’t involve coming in contact with people and she found it difficult to picture one.

Sofia sent out her resume and waited for their response as they indicated they would stop taking applications as from the next day.

Sofia hoped that the job would be given to her, the clubhouse was the best in the whole of Pachuca. And it was mostly graced by the rich, it was very difficult to get a pass at the club it took connections for someone to club there or work there.

But Sofia was lucky that Camila had spoken to a few of her friends who knew the manager there. Sofia just had to talk with her father and know what he had to say about her working as a waitress in a clubhouse.

She knew for a fact that he would decline at first but might consider granting her request if she acted grumpy and unhappy in the house.

Sofia decided to get ready for the hangout with Camila, Noah, and Jason. She had already taken her bath when her phone rang and she rushed to pick it up but it was an unknown number that was calling.

“Hello”

“Hello am I unto Sofia?” the voice on the other line asked.

“Who am I on the phone with?”

“Is James there with you?” the person asked.

“No but who is this please?”

“Oh, this is Mrs. Williams”

“Right!, the voice sounded familiar, I’m so sorry Mrs. Williams, I haven’t visited you at the hospital”

“Hospital! What are you talking about?

“James said you were sick and you were admitted to the hospital”

“Sofia I haven’t seen James for the past week, I called to know if you both are together”.

“No..no we are not”

“ Call me first if he reaches out to you”

And the call dropped.

Sofia was so confused, she had just lent her little savings to James. She slowly placed the phone on her dressing table as she sat to think.

A few minutes later, Camila texted Sofia the location of where they would be meeting for their hangout.

Sofia got dressed and headed for the coffee shop where Camilla told her they would meet.

Immediately she got to the entrance of the coffee shop, she spotted Camila talking to someone.

Camilla saw her almost immediately and waved at her and signaled her to wait for her outside so she can grab her bag.

Sofia sat at a table consisting of four chairs as she waited for her to join her, five minutes later Noah and his boyfriend Jason joined her and Camila came later.

Sofia narrated everything that transpired between her and James and how his mother called and denied being admitted in the hospital.

“I know how you must be feeling but we can report this to the cops,” Jason said looking at their faces.

“Cops? No no, I’m sure Sofia doesn’t want that” Noah said turning to look at Sofia.

“No, no I don’t buy the idea. I mean his mum said he’s missing he might be in some kind of danger or something” Sofia said.

“Oh poor little thing, when will you realize that James has made away with your money?” Camilla asked.

“Don’t worry I’ll reach out to his friends, one of them might have an idea of his whereabouts. He might have a reason for what he did” Sofia said, fully aware she was just consoling herself.

They all chatted for a while amidst giggles and smiles, the waiter brought the bill and Camilla paid for what they ordered, and they all left to their respective houses Camilla ordered a taxi but Sofia said she would take the public bus home.

Camilla tried persuading her to get a taxi that she will pay but Sofia declined.

Sofia waited for some minutes before she could get a bus, finally, when the bus came she got on the bus, she noticed the back seat was vacant.

She went to sit down at the edge, looking out of the window, she was lost in thoughts.

She was thinking of how she could find James and make him pay all of her money back, her job hunting, and the bills at home, she had a lot going on.

When she got to her bus stop she alighted from the bus and took a walk to her house.

She knocked hoping that her father was back from the farm, but there was no response, she took out her key and opened the door.

She went straight to her room and fell with her back on her bed, she was tired.

She slept off.

Waking up it was already evening and she noticed she had not even removed her clothes, she immediately changed into her home wear and went to the kitchen to drink water.

She hasn’t washed the dishes she used to have breakfast, she did the dishes very quickly and went to the living room to read a book.

There was a soft knock on the door, Sofia got up to now who was at the door, she opened it and it was her father.

She greeted him and offered to help him with what he got back from the farm.

When Sofia knew her father must have rested enough she went on to tell him about her intentions to work as a waitress at Glitzy Clubhouse.

“I found a job,” she said quickly.

“Oh, you did?!” he asked.

“Yes did,” she said smiling.

“Where?”

“How?” her father asked again not waiting for her response.

“Pa, I’ll explain, I haven’t been called to work, I just saw a vacancy”

“Ok but you haven’t said where,” he asked peering into her eyes

“It’s a clubhouse Pa,” she said slowly

Immediately she said it her father released his hands from her hands and looked at her disgusted.

“What do you mean it’s a clubhouse?” he asked angrily.

“Of all places, a clubhouse?”

At this point, Sofia knew she need to convince her father and make him believe that she was not going to work there to be a stripper like her friends had thought too.

“Pa, hear me out,” Sofia said kneeling in front of her father and holding his hands in her hands.

“I only get to work there as a waitress, I can also get connections there too, I'm not going there to be a stripper because I know that is what you might be thinking”

Sofia guessed right, her father did not like the idea because he knew mostly what was done at clubhouses was wealthy men patronizing strippers and whores and his daughter was not one.

“No I won’t allow that if your mother was alive she won't allow this and you know that”.

“Whose idea was this?”

“Was it Camilla or that gay you call a friend?” her father asked referring to Noah and Jason. He stood up and went into his bedroom angrily leaving Sofia disappointed.
