What He Saw.

Alexander's Pov

"Mary gave a 360-turn, facing me with an unreadable expression, leaving a vast room of curiosity."

"Mary? What is wrong?" I asked, getting up to take a look out of my room.

"Oh nothing, I thought I saw something. She said still lost in thought.

"Oh seriously, is my penthouse now a ghost town?" I asked myself, passing hands in my hair out of frustration.

"Mary, what did you see?" I asked, making sure it was not what am thinking.

"What is with your sudden interest? This is very unlike of you, are you seeing anyone?" She asked, turning her head to the side.

"You should leave now," I said, sipping my wine.

"I wouldn't even think for a moment you are seeing me alone, I know there are so many, I will leave now." She blew a kiss and turned to leave.

I sighed heavily, stared at the glass, and poured the last drop down my throat. Immediately sat down in bed, Helena entered.

"Sir, please dinner is served," Helena said, gathering both hands behind her.

"Okay, I will be there in a moment. Wait! Is she already seated?" I asked, searching for a shirt to match my sweatpants.

"No, sir. She said she doesn't feel for food. She also wanted to know if she will be sharing the same room. She said, fixing her gaze ground

ground.

"Don't worry, you can leave now. I will talk to her myself." I said while putting on a black t-shirt I came across.

"Yes sir, excuse me." She left closing the door behind her.

Soon after Helena left, I went to see Adriana. As I reached her entrance, I found the door slightly opened and I entered without knocking. I found her wrapped in her gown, soaking the bed with her ceaseless tears.

"After a moment of being unnoticed, I clear my throat for her attention."

She twitches with fear, raising her head to scan the room with her red face. Her eyes followed me, while I sat on a couch on her extreme left. Subsequently, she circumvented her gaze from catching mine.

"Ana, I feel uncomfortable for you in that big gown. If you can't manage to get it off on your own, I am here, I can help you with it, in exchange for nothing." I volunteered politely.

Her silence was killing me, I moved closer, sat beside her, and started to pass my hand in her raven silky smooth hair. She shakes her head repeatedly to indicate her disapproval.

"You should be delighted. I am here showing you much affection, it's not my forte. Lest I forget, you must not starve yourself, I want you as great as you were at your birthday celebration earlier. Therefore, we should leave now, dinner will be cold."

"Since you have found much comfort in this gown you don't want to remove, you can have dinner in it, you know this is your house too. Except for me, you don't have to answer to anyone." Taking my hands and eyes off her hair and starting to walk towards the door.

"Are you not coming?" I asked as I noticed her still curled up in bed. Without cautioning, I strode closer and collected her into my arms, off the bed.

"Let go of me!" She cried, finally finding her voice. I stopped in my tracks, staring into her swollen yet adoring eyes whiles she constantly hits my chest.

My gaze became intense, and without all humor disappeared, I leaned in, making a move to kiss her, and I freed my hand, causing her to quickly hold me.

I smirk, holding her place. "One more word and I let go," I said looking straight into her eyes.

"Please don't leave me." She said, pleading for my mercy.

I held her in place, letting go of her.

"Thank you." She murmurs in her faint distorted tone.

"The food will be cold, change into something simple or better still, go in this but don't miss dinner. " I left, not listening to any complaints.

As I walked to my study, I came across Helena.

"Hey Helena, sorry I won't have dinner, I bet it's cold now. Please bring a glass of water to my study."

"Right away, sir." She said as turn on my heels to my study.

I settled in the cozy chair, I rested my head against it. I exhaled sharply, sat in a proper position, and scanned through the files on the table.

Someone knocked, stealing my attention.

"Sir, your water," Helena said holding out a glass of water.

"Thank you, leave it on the table. Did Adriana eat anything?" I asked yet, fixing a gaze on my files.

"No, please. She refused to eat and I'm afraid she might go weak." She said looking all concerned.

"Do not worry about a thing, she's no kid. She can take care of herself. You can leave," I gestured to her dismissal.

"If you say so, excuse me, and goodnight." I nod then she left.

After two hours of working, I decided to retire to my bedroom. Immediately, I stood up, and my phone rang. I checked the caller ID and it was Dad, I answered right away.

"Hello, Dad?" I called moving to the window, with my other hand resting in my pocket.

"I would like to meet you early tomorrow morning at the office. Goodnight son." He in his firm voice and hung up.

"Before going to my room, I checked on Adriana. Not that I cared, I just found it gentle of me."

She was curled up in bed, wrapped up in her gown, exactly how I found her earlier.

"Why did you disobey me? I asked you to eat." I whispered, attempting to get her attention.

"I didn't feel like it." She replied, sounding audacious.

"It's better not to get brassy around me, I can become unusual in just a minute." She cuts in.

"I can speak to you anyhow I want without caring about how unusual you can get, leave my room_" She commanded, sitting upright.

Surprisingly, she got out, walking towards the entrance. As she held the knob to open, I spoke in anger.

"Don't you dare walk out on me, Adriana?" I said walking close to her.

"I have nowhere to go, but I need to leave. Please and please, leave my room." She said, directing me with her hand to go out.

Technically, I was in no mood for an argument, I just left to my room and slept.

Sir, you are up so early". Helena asked while cleaning.

"Yes Helena, I have an important meeting to attend this morning."

"Okay Sir, can I help you with anything?"

"Well, yes, make me coffee, hurry up with it". I sat at the dining table, adjusting my tie.

"Here you go, sir".

"Thank you. How is Ana? Is she Awake?"

"Not yet, sir."

"Very well, make sure she eats something when she wakes."

"Alright." She replied as he resumed work.

"Sam? Is the car ready?" I questioned Sam who was fidgeting with his phone.

"It is, Sir." He answered, quickly placing the phone in his pocket.

The black SUV opened and I climbed, when the car pulled up in the parking lot, I walked for a while and halted, I looking up at my company, I smiled at my achievement.

"Hello sir", the receptionist said as she took off my coat and showed her perfect white teeth and she gave me her beautiful grin that could change your mood. Frankly, she's one of the most beautiful female workers I have here at my company. I put her here, as a receptionist.

"How are you, Lucia?" I questioned, not taking my eyes off her.

"Fine as usual". She replied, widening her doe-eye.

"Good. Did I miss anything yesterday?" I inquired, running very professionally instantly.

"Not really, Mr. Roberts called, he said he wanted to discuss something with you, he didn't mention it to me."

"Okay, don't worry. Is that all?"

"Your father is waiting for you in the boardroom." She said, pointing her open in the direction.

"He's here already?" I asked no one in particular.

"Lucia? Have someone bring two cups of coffee, my father likes it black, without sugar."

"Right away, Sir". I walked away.

I entered the boardroom and found my father seated, scanning through files.

Always looks groomed and chic in everything he wears. Smiling at whatever he was reading, his chiseled jawline rose with a deep smile. I interrupted him.

"What was so urgent that I couldn't wait, did it have to be this early in the morning?" I asked my father who wasn't even looking at me.

"Can't you do better than this? Won't you at least sit and ask how I'm doing?" He still focusing on the file before him.

"Well fine, how are you doing?" I asked as I sat down.

"I am fine and you?"

"As you can see, very healthy. Tell me now, why am I here?" I asked firmly, as though I was speaking with a business partner.

"You are very impatient, son". He got up, came closer, and gently placed a file before me.

"What is this?" I asked with my gaze fixed on him.

"Open it." He said and a knock interrupted us.

"Sir, your coffee is here. Mr. Johnson? This is yours, black without sugar". She said, grinning.

"Thank you", he grinned, looking back at the blonde.

"Leave mine on the table, thank you, and excuse us."

"That file before you was the reason for your marriage to Adriana."

"Oh! so you are ready to tell me now, aren't you?" I questioned, not really expecting an answer. I opened the file and carefully read through it. What I realized sent shock all over my body.

"Dad? I don't understand anything. How did it happen, when?"

He tapped me on the shoulder and walked to take a seat.

"I have an appointment with my doctor 30 minutes later, I wouldn't want to keep him waiting," I murmured, taking the last sip of coffee.

"Does Mom know about this?" I questioned, waving the file.

"No, she doesn't, she only knows you are married".

"What did she say?" Looking into his witty eyes, I inquired.

"Nothing really, she couldn't stop blaming herself for not attending."

"Why didn't you tell her the truth? She's your wife, doesn't she have the right to know?"

"She won't be able to handle the truth, that aside, do you think she would have agreed? She doesn't understand how things work in the business world."

"If you say so, it means I shouldn't tell her, isn't it?

"Exactly, she will be back from her holiday today, you must come over for dinner and I will explain everything to you. I will take my leave now, stay safe."He said getting up to leave.

"I will walk you out." Trying to get up, he declined.

"Don't worry, I know the way out. See you soon."

I made my way out of the boardroom, going into my office and Lucia called from behind.

"What is it?" I questioned,

"I forgot to tell you earlier on."

"What is it, Lucia? Be straightforward."

"Yesterday, Miss Walters called. She wanted to know your whereabouts and I told her you were taking care of something outside of the office."

"Good, what else did she say?"

"She said call her once you receive her message."

"Okay, tell Mr. Roberts to meet me in half an hour, another cup of coffee, please."

"Count it done."

She said and I left for my office, I sat in my chair then leaned back. I closed my eyes and memories of Ana recurred in my head.

The telephone rang and I received it.

"What is it, Lucia?"

Mr. Roberts is here."

"Let him in," I said plainly and hung up

In less than five minutes, he was here, accompanied by my coffee.

"Hello, Mr. Roberts?" I stood up and we shook hands.

"Please have a seat. So tell me, how are things doing?" I asked, keeping my palms together on the desk.

"Things are going on well, more than expected. Our customers accrete daily." He said with a business-like tone.

"That's good to hear. What else did you want to talk about yesterday?"

He sat in a straight posture before speaking.

"Our Managers abroad want to hold a board meeting, they need you to attend."

"What for?" I inquired quizzically.

"I have no idea, Sir."

"Okay, I will check my schedule and see what we can do, I will call later."

"He stood up and we shook hands once more."

As soon as he left, I phoned Lucia.

"Lucia? Send my secretary to my office right away. I don't want to wait for long."

"As soon as possible, sir."

"Thank you." I hung up and she finished speaking.

I replied as I heard a knock. I waved to a chair behind my desk.

Unlike Lucia, Roberta isn't as flashy and beautiful. She wears spectacle and short heels making her seem less attractive. I always preferred Lucia to do my work because she's faster than my secretary.

"Sir? You called for me! Is there anything you would like me to do?" She asked, fixing her spectacle.

"Not really, do I have a tight schedule this week?"

"Well yeah, but I think I can squeeze in something"

"Okay...... I want to attend a board meeting abroad."

"I am sorry sir, I can't arrange for that now, it will interfere and may cause complications."

"Then what do you think?" I looked into her face, gliding my hands under my jaw.

"You can't attend this week, perhaps I should attend in your name."

" I don't think that's a good idea, they want me in person."

"Then that must be another time, sir."

"Thank you, I will call you later. Tell Mr. Roberts to meet me now."

"Sure, excuse me, sir."

A few minutes after she had left, the door opened and he entered.

"Did you figure anything out?" He asked while standing.

"Unfortunately no, I've got a tight schedule."

"What do we do now?" He questioned, holding his waist as if striking a pose.

"I don't know, I think I will call you later today, this evening to be precise."

"That's fine by me. I think I should leave now."

"Yeah.... that's all, you can leave now."

The day was stressful, after so many meetings and talks, I decided to go see Valeria.

"Lucia? My coat, see you tomorrow."

"Enjoy the rest of your evening, sir." Like always, she stated, followed by that beautiful grin.

"Likewise, Lucia."

I sat in the car and Sam drove off.

"No, we are not going home, take me to Valeria's place."

Sir, has your father finally told you the reasons behind your marriage? Sam asked, focusing on my road.

He's the only one I share everything with, no doubt he asked.

"Yes, he showed me a file."

"What did it say?" He asked, looking at me through the mirror.

"I married her because…." I paused, I will tell you when he gets home. Focus on the road, my revelation could cause an accident."

He sighed in disappointment.
