Chapter 7 An Uneasy Feeling

The medical staff in the hospital knew about Gwyneth's temperament. Usually, she was kind and approachable, but she was cold and ruthless regarding her work. They were about to say a few words to Liam to lighten the mood when he turned around and left.

Elizabeth was wheeled into the operating room as scheduled. Gwyneth followed the nurses without any emotions.

The surgery went smoothly, and Gwyneth's work amazed every assisting medical staff.

Liam waited outside the operating room and asked the other nurses about Gwen Lent. The emotions he was feeling were too much for him to bear.

"Dr. Lent doesn't come to the hospital much, but she's the first person we think of whenever we encounter a tricky situation," one of the nurses said after looking at how distraught Liam was, fangirling at the mention of Gwen.

"Yeah. Besides her superb medical skills, she's also very friendly. She mingles around with the staff when she's here." As the nurses talked about Gwyneth, they started to chat among themselves.

Then, Liam glanced at the operating room doors and saw the words displayed on it: [Surgeon: Dr. Lent]. Suddenly, his heart felt uneasy.

Liam and Gwyneth had been married for three years. However, he had never cared about how or what she was doing. 'Not only does she have a different look and personality, but she has a whole new identity all in one day! How many things is this woman hiding from me?'

The surgical operation lasted five hours. The lights in the operation room finally went out, and the doors were opened. Gwyneth took off her mask and disposable surgical gown, looking exhausted.

Liam did not know what he felt then, but he approached her and said, "Thanks for the hard work." He gestured to remove the items from her hands, but Gwyneth decisively pushed him away.

Elizabeth, already awake, saw the scene, and a sense of crisis arose in her heart. She opened her mouth, softly called out to Liam, and flashed the scar on her arm once again.

Gwyneth initially did not intend to talk to the two, but when she caught a glance of Elizabeth's burn mark, she cracked her neck and said, "That's a nasty scald mark you have there. Apply some ointment or plant-based essential oil to it, and it'll fade after a while."

Liam, who was about to comfort Elizabeth, looked startled when he heard those words. 'Scald mark? Didn't she get that from the fire?'

Elizabeth's pale face could have blown her cover had she not just come out of surgery.

"I'm afraid you're mistaken, Dr. Lent. Your eyes must be tired from five hours of surgery."

Hearing that, Gwyneth chuckled lightly, knowing her kind words were useless. She then walked toward the elevators after instructing the nurses about a few precautions.

Liam appeared before her just as she was about to press an elevator button.

"Here to thank me?" Gwyneth looked up and stared at Liam impatiently with a frown.

"You said the mark on Elizabeth's arm is a scald just now. How sure are you of that?"

'Give me a break,' Gwyneth thought as she rolled her eyes. 'What's wrong with him? He's usually a man of few words. Did his personality change overnight?'
