Run

Mother of cow, I am so screwed.

With hurried steps, I quickly went into the ladies comfort room. I sighed out of relief as soon as I saw it was empty. My hands were dead cold as I locked the cubicle I was in. Breathing heavily, I quickly dialed Laurent's number with my trembling hands.

"Oh, please pick up!" I desperately whispered, panic started to eat my system.

It's been three weeks since I was hired by the Lake Company.

And it never had crossed in my mind that I would be stepping inside a dangerous lair.

I am trapped.

///

Fifteen minutes ago

"Good morning!" I greeted as usual as I make my way towards my desk. And as usual, my coworkers either ignored me or stared lazily at me.

I frowned and just shrug it off as I plopped down my chair.

I saw one of my seniors bringing a load of paper works as he struggles to walk. Since I have nothing much to do, I quickly stood up and help him carry other stuff.

I grabbed some of his things voluntarily and he didn't even bother to look at me. "Thanks but..." He mumbled as he flipped on a certain file hastily as if searching for something.

"Can you please just bring this to the CEO's assistant?" He asked, still not looking even one glance at me. I bet he doesn't even know me. That's a bummer, the thing is, I only helped to leave a good impression.

"Oh, okay." I reached onto the paper lazily and trudged towards the elevator with a frown face.

But excitement rushed inside me as I thought of something. I smirked mischievously as I think of my little plan.

You know, I have never seen our CEO. Common employees like me are not allowed to enter the ninth floor, the CEO's office. But you know, something strange is really happening here in Lake Company.

When I asked the other senior employees what the CEO looks like, they told me different things. Some told me he's bald, some told me he doesn't shave, and some told me he smells.

Like, mother of cow! Why do they tell me different answers?! Something is really fishy.

The elevator made a "ding" sound as I slowly stepped inside the ninth floor. I stared in awe as I look at the elegant and elaborate gold and black interior design. It looks so expensive. Maybe more expensive than the president's room.

Ms. Kase Wolfgang, the assistant, was not at her desk so I just quietly put the paper down on her table. Her desk was located in front of the CEO's room.

Now, let the mission begins!

I slowly turned as my heart pounded heavily. This is it! Now I can confirm if our CEO's bald or not!

The moment I turned my head, my eyes lose any inch of hope. The glass walls of the CEO's room were covered by thick black curtains, making it unable to see what's inside.

But then the next thing that happened made me unable to breathe.

I was about to leave when the curtains flew open. I gasped nervously as my feet went cold, as if stuck on the marble floor. My eyes were unable to blink as my gaze was glued on a certain someone.

The CEO.

He opened the curtain and was standing right in front of me, the only thing between us is the glass wall. At first, he turned pale, as if he saw a ghost, but then his expression suddenly turned grim. I automatically gulped nervously as I saw how his expression darkened. It feels like I wasn't supposed to see him. I completely went frozen from where I'm standing, racked with nothing but fear.

If looks can kill, I'm sure I'd be dead right now. He was completely throwing daggers at me.

Mother of cow! What will I do now?!

I automatically bow my head and then dashed back to the elevator. I didn't even have the guts to look back at him again because he was too intimidating! I slumped down the cold floor of the elevator as I felt my heart still thumping crazily.

Mother of cow, what did I just see?!

He wasn't bald nor doesn't shave! He's a young man, I bet in mid-20s, has dark hair, which looks like a curtain hairstyle in the modern renaissance. He has jet black eyes which felt very intense.

I don't know why, but he looks very familiar.

As soon as the elevator opens, I was taken aback when I saw my coworkers, gathered in front of the elevator, looking so scared.

"Did you saw something?" The senior who just talked to me a while ago asked as beads of sweat ran down his forehead.

Something is really not right in this place.

My heart beat wildly as I carefully answered. "Uh, Ms. Kase was not on her desk so I just put the paper on her table and made my way back here."

I totally leave the part where I saw the CEO. I feel like I shouldn't say that.

"Apart from that, who else did you see?"

My eyes twitched as the tension was eating me but I tried my best to look calm. "No one. Who else would be there at Ms. Kase's desk?" I jokingly answered and made my way back to my desk.

I can still feel everyone's stare behind me but I chose to ignore it and act normal. I started acting like I was working on my tasks but my mind was actually clouded with thoughts.

Something is really strange here.

Why would my seniors lie about the CEO's appearance? Why are they so nervous? Why are they asking me such questions as if I shouldn't see him?

Just then, a lost memory popped off my mind.

I jolted straight up in my swivel chair as I remembered everything.

The CEO!

He was the guy I saved from that monster!

"Oh, I gotta pee." I declared innocently as soon as I realized everyone was looking suspiciously at me. I started walking towards the comfort room as I hid my trembling hands.

I knew best that he is not a normal being.

Judging by how the employees here are acting strange too, they must've known who he really is.

Worse, they might be just like him.

Laurent warned me about them. He said they shouldn't be trusted. He told me over and over that the moment I see someone like him, I should go away as far as I can.

Because there's a huge possibility they might take me away from the world where I was born. They might strip away the title 'normal' from me because they believe someone like me cannot live like I used to.

Just because I am different, I am viewed as someone who doesn't belong here,

not anymore.

"Oh, yes!" I whispered triumphantly as Laurent finally answered my call after 22 attempts.

"Laurent, I need to tell you something!" My voice was almost inaudible, too afraid someone might hear me.

The car's engine blared on Laurent's side. "What was that Harper? I can't hear you. Sorry, but can you call me some other time? There's an urgent matter I need to deal with."

"No! You need to hear me right now!" I commanded irritably. "Our CEO was the guy I-"

Suddenly, the call went unstable. Laurent quickly interrupted, making me curse over and over. "Sorry Harper but this is really important! I just sensed peculiar energy at a certain place and the energy really feels like something from 50 years ago! Maybe..." His voice trailed off, his breathing was shaky.

"maybe she's still alive."

And then the call ended.

I tried numerous times again to call back but he was already out of reach.

I am so screwed.

"Ms. Williams?" Someone suddenly knocked at the cubicle I was in, making me flinched in terror.

I quickly flushed the toilet and went out with a smile, hiding any trace of fear I have a while ago.

It's Ms. Kase Wolfgang, the CEO's assistant.

"Sorry, if you wait too long, I think I ate too much." I forced myself to burped then patted my tummy as I walk towards the sink. I scanned the surroundings as I washed my hands. The rest of the cubicles were empty. She was clearly waiting for me.

I played dumb and was about to exit when she called me.

"Ms. Williams, are you alright?" She asked meaningfully, making me turn in her direction.

Mother of cow this is so nerve-wracking!

I furrowed my eyebrows. "Of course."

She smiled at me and it was so creepy it send shivers down my spine. "I think you won't be,"

My eyes widen in shock as I saw sharp fangs in her mouth. "starting now."

At that moment, I can't think of anything but one.

Run.
