Chapter Five

“What plan are you going on about?” I asked him

“I was going to ally with the vampires and get them to turn me.

Do you think I want to remain this old, with this saggy body?”

“But, it would affect the balance, a witch and a vampire in one body, it would be a catastrophic situation”.

I reasoned with him, but he wasn’t having any of it

“Even if my plan wasn’t going to work.

There was plan B, where my grandchildren would be hybrids and they would rule the world, but no you had to kill the one thing that was keeping me going.

Those vampires were my only hope of ruling the world and you took it from me, now I am going to take your life away from you”, the more he spoke, the more I realized he was a mad man.

“And you decided to use my mate? Did you even bother to tell her of your plans? Did she agree to this too?” I asked him repeatedly.

“She doesn’t need to know, she just needed to marry the vampire and the plans would have been set in motion”, I got mad after he said that.

My mate was just a means to an end for him.

He was not worthy of being called a father.

He was a tyrant who was not afraid of using everything within his reach even if it would affect the balance of the supernatural world.

What a cruel man!

At that moment, I made a silent prayer to the Moon Goddess for strength.

Someone needed to stop the man, or he would simply continue in his madness and it would be too late.

My prayers were answered.

The full moon granted me strength, and I lunged at the coven leader.

I was so blinded by rage, that I failed to realize that he was my mate’s father; she might hate me for it.

I tore him to pieces without second thoughts.

I was ready to fight whoever stood in my way, but thankfully, he was the only one there.

He might have thought he could take me on with his magic.

He tried to fight back with magic, but he was too old and his reflexes were not that strong, so I tore him into pieces.

I was able to set myself free from the cellar.

I was going to limp back to my pack when I realized I should be the one to tell my mate of recent happenings so that she would not hear it from someone else and jump to the wrong conclusion.

I headed towards the coven castle.

She was surprised to see me for the second time in one night, but she ran to me when she saw the state I was in. It felt good to know that my mate still cared for me.

She carried me to her bed, left the room, then came back a while later, carrying a bowl I guessed was filled with water.

I tried to stand up to assist her, but she motioned for me to stay down. I obeyed.

“What happened?” she asked softly as she cleaned the slowly healing wounds on my arms.

“I was attacked and poisoned”, I said briefly.

She gave me a face that indicates that she wanted the whole story.

I sighed, knowing I had to tell her sooner or later.

“I was on my way back to my pack house when I was attacked with poisoned arrows…”

Before I could explain any further, a maid barged into the room shouting “My lady, my lady”.

We both looked to the doorway, she motioned for me to stay and keep quiet while she went to the door to prevent anyone from entering.

It seemed she was given a letter because I couldn’t hear them talking.

When she moved away from the door towards my direction, she had tears in her eyes, and I knew immediately what the message was about.

I stood as quickly as I could because I was still weakened from the silver and the wolf's bane.

She pointed at me accusingly and asked “Did you do it?”

“I had no choice”, I put my hands up in surrender and told her.

I took a step to move closer to her, but she took several steps back, holding out her hand to tell me to stay back.

My wolf whimpered.

“You had no choice but to kill my father? And you say you are my mate?” she yelled

“Please, hear me out”, I begged, but she kept shaking her head profusely. I continued talking anyway.

“He shot me with the poisoned arrow I was talking about earlier”, she narrowed her eyes on me, and I continued.

“He said something about ruining his plans, he was going to use you as bait to get the vampires to turn him, your father wanted to live long and you were just a pawn in his games.

He was going to kill me for killing those vampires and I know you did not want the vampire either because you didn’t bat an eyelash when you knew I was the one that killed them.

Your father is an evil man, please understand that”.

I pleaded with her as I explained, hoping she would understand.

“Oh, I understand very well, I understand that you are just a man blinded by rage and would do anything to get what he wants, you are a cruel wolf”.

She looked at me with so much hatred that it broke me on the inside.

“I…”, she started with so much determination in her eyes, but I stopped her.

“No, please no”, I begged when I realized what she was about to do, I cannot bear it if she went through with it.

“I, Quinn, reject you Alpha Wilson as my mate forever”, she said finishing the rejection ritual.

I fell to the ground, feeling a lot of pain both from the rejection and the earlier poison.

Normal rejection would have hurt less, but the moment she put the word "forever", I was devastated, it meant that there was nothing I could do or say that would make us reconcile.

It was not good, I lost my mate.

She pointed towards the door “Get out of my house and never come back”, She commanded.

I tried to stand up, but my legs gave out and I fell back to the floor.

She gave a long sigh through her tears and called for someone in the hall.

Two men, whom I guessed were guards, came inside, grabbed me by my arms, and waited for her command.

“Throw him out, and tell the main entrance guards that whenever they see this man, he is to be killed at first sight”.

They nodded and bowed before dragging me out of her room and her life.

I looked back at her, hoping she would change her mind and let us be together, despite the mate bond being severed. She looked away from me.

That was when I knew it was indeed over.
