A Strange Wolf

CAIN

My head was messed up about everything going on around me. I needed to cool off. My wedding was just around the corner, and yet I didn't feel the need to get married, not that I didn't feel the connection.

In fact, my wolf had declared her our mate, but why is it so hard for me to accept the fact that she was my mate?

*Flashback*

“Cain, don't you think you've had enough of a solitary and carefree life? Why don't you let the promiscuous life go? It's time to assume the responsibilities of an Alpha."

“You know I'm a very busy man. I have duties for the pack and my personal life. I don't have time for love now.”

“No way, son, you are not fully the Lycan king unless you claim your true Luna. Your Luna isn't an ordinary Luna; she's the scarlet witch. This is an opportunity that comes once every century. "You are destined to be great, and hence you must find your other half to fulfill your destiny, son.”

I hope my mother will understand that I'm not ready to see my mate yet. I know what it means to have my mate around, and I'm not ready for a mate yet. My mother had never been a favorite of my father before he died. And he told me that not all mates can be loved.

I grew up seeing how distant my parents were from each other, even though they were meant for each other. I didn't want to go through this, especially with a woman I know nothing about.

A year later, I rejected my mother's proposal to see my mate. I heard her pack had been attacked.

“Son, you must save the mirror moon pack, They need our help now.”

Knowing the pack of my supposed mate was under attack, I took my men, and together we headed to the mirror moon pack. But unfortunately, we came too late. The pack had perished, and the enemies were nowhere to be found.

“Have you any idea who the enemies are, Alpha Cain?” My beta asked.

I shook my head in disagreement. I shut my eyes and envisioned what had happened. Just then, I got a vision of what had happened.

What I saw was the death of the Alpha and his Luna. They died honorably. But then, I couldn't see the face of the enemy since the enemy was wearing a mask.

For an enemy to put on a mask simply means they were known enemies, but then these known enemies could not be identified.

“What did you find, Alpha Cain?”

“I have got no clues; they are unknown enemies." I wish I knew who these enemies are, it would have been easy for me to find them.”

“Fuck!” Fox exclaimed.  Just then, I heard a sharp cry. Someone screamed for help. It was the cry of a female, and she seemed to be calling for my wolf.

I looked around the dead bodies in search for my mate, but I didn't find her. But then she kept calling for me.

“Fox, did you hear that?”

“Hear that?   Hear what?”

“The voice of a woman crying.”

“What? I didn't hear any woman crying.”

“Help, someone help me, please.” I felt her pain. My wolf was restless and searched for her. I followed my wolf's instincts, and he led us to a cave that was covered by a spell. I saw women and children, all lying unconscious, except for her.

My wolf screamed “mate” the moment I laid eyes on her. She smiled instantly when she saw me.

At that moment, I knew she was my mate, the one my mom had told me about. My one true mate.

But why don't I feel this attraction toward her? Why don't I feel the ignition of the mate bond?

I rushed into the cave, but the spell that was cast on the entrance of the cave suddenly pushed me back so hard that I fell backwards.

“Don't come any closer; only the Alpha can come through,” she announced. At first, I hesitated, but knowing I was the only one who could actually break into the barrier to save her and the others, I didn't think twice before rushing into the barrier, which was set and just as she had said. I was able to go through the barrier to rescue them.

*Flashback Ends.*

I couldn't help but feel something's not right, though I can't tell what's wrong or why I feel this way about the wedding that was taking place and then about the kiss. I can't believe I actually kissed her during our first meeting.

I decided to race my wolf to clear my head. Moreover, I don't know what's wrong with me lately when I see my mate's sister.

Her eyes, her lips—I just can't stop thinking about her. Every night I think about her. Ever since that day, we had kissed, or rather, since I kissed her, I couldn't think of anything else.

And then we bumped into each other again while she was doing her chores. I just can't tell why I have this strong pull towards her. I just cannot think straight whenever I see her; I just want to touch her every second, and seeing her face, I'm tempted to stare into her eyes forever.

After running for an hour, I decided to go behind a tree and take a short rest. Just then, I heard the cry of a wolf coming in the direction of the woods. I went on high alert and waited for the wolf to come into view.

The wolf finally came into view, but then I noticed it didn't have the aura of a dangerous wolf. I noticed it was a female wolf by the scent I perceived, but it was not a familiar one.

This wolf looks entirely different, and in some way, it suddenly pulled my wolf. I growled loudly, and it startled the wolf so much that it looked in my direction, where I was. I could see the wolf clearly under the moonlight where it stood. It was beautiful her eyes were those of a scarlet, and the fur on her wolf was smooth and glittering white.

I was totally unaware when I began to approach her. But way before I could get to her, she suddenly turned around and hit the forest path back to where she came from. I chased her immediately because I needed to know who she was and what she was doing in that part of the woods at that particular time of the night.
