Suspicions

DIANE

The fact that Gina was going to investigate the case made me restless. What if she goes around snooping for clues? Will that further make things difficult? What am I supposed to do then? I need to stop her before she does anything stupid to sabotage my plans.

I looked in the mirror, and stared at the mark on my chest. The Scarlet seal, which I was able to snatch from Gina. If I hadn't been shown the method through which I could actually steal the seal, I might have been the one taking on Gina's position. 

 Maybe I might be the one serving her like a maid.

Good thing I was capable of succeeding in my plans. Though the half moon shaped scarlet seal burns my skin from time to time, so long as I can use the proper ointment which I was given, it somehow reduces the pain and redness. 

 By the way, that symbol is not something that can be easily seen by outsiders, since the symbol was originally located at the top of my breastbone.

“I have a message for you, miss Diane,” someone said through the mind link. Without being told, I knew it was the messenger. I need to go to him and find out what message I have this time.

I always reach out to the outside in the nighttime because it is the best time for me to leave the pack without being monitored. I quickly changed from my night dress into a black gown and a black cloak which covered my head, thereby hiding my face from being seen by anyone in the pack. 

 After I surveyed the area I was to take into the woods, and discovered it was clear, I quickly headed into the secret pass through I venture out into the woods. I bet no one in the pack knew the fact that I could easily find this secret passage.

I finally got to the woods, where I saw the messenger waiting. Just as I came into view, he suddenly turned around and bowed his head in greeting.

“Greetings, miss Diane.”

"What message do you have for me this time?" I asked.

“Lady Margaret asked me to inform you that she'd be coming to the pack next week, and will be playing the role of your stepmother.”

 I smiled the moment I was informed about her coming.

“Is that all?” I asked.

“The same old advice. She wants you to be careful and never to use your powers, not until she arrives.”

“Tell her I will abide by her rules and wait for her arrival.”

The messenger bowed his head in greeting after conveying the message to me, before exiting the pack.

I felt so delighted at the fact that my mom would be coming to visit. I never would have imagined that she'd be coming to pay me a visit. I know I will be safer when she's around.

Though I cannot get my full revenge on Gina since everyone will be watching me, with my mom around, I know everything will fall in place.

I was so lost in my thoughts that I didn't realize there was someone in the woods.

I just snapped out of my thoughts when I heard footsteps. My heart skipped, thinking I had been caught. I quickly rushed into a corner to see who it was, and to my greatest shock, I saw Gina walking into the pack quickly.

I creased my brow, wondering what she was doing out there in the dark.

No one leaves the pack at that time of the night unless they have a hidden agenda. And as for Gina, the only agenda I'm sure she had was the fact that she was trying to search for the killers of her parents.

Though she'd promised not to reveal my identity, but then, I cannot let her act willfully. So many things are at stake. This is one of the reasons why I'm so happy my mom is coming next week.

I decided to leave my hiding spot since she'd gotten into the pack house, but then I was shocked out of my wits when I noticed other footsteps from the woods. 

 I quickly went back into hiding, so I could see who it was. 

 To my utter bewilderment, it was Alpha Cain. I couldn't believe that. First, it was Karen, and now it was Alpha Chase. What on earth was he doing out there in the middle of the night?

Could it be that he met with Karen? I gasped immediately. It can't be that Gina had told him everything. It can't be that Karen had revealed her true identity to him. Does this mean I'm in trouble? But she promised. She promised not to let him find out about our identities. Did she go back on her words? 

 That won't do. There's only one way to find out. I waited for Alpha Cain to get into the pack before going back to my room.

I walked briskly towards his office, my hands tightly folded together. My heart was practically in my chest because I had no idea what I might find. Getting to the door, I heaved a long sigh, to relieve myself from my worry. Going to him with a panicked heart will make him suspicious of me.

I peered down at my white dress and smiled. No matter what the result may be, it is only right that I look presentable and beautiful.

Knowing I looked good, I quickly placed a knock on the door and waited for a response. I didn't get any, so I placed a second knock. Just then, I heard his deep voice echoing from the inside.

“Come in, Gina,” he said.

As expected, he's the Lycan king and my mate, so there's no doubt that he recognizes me. 

 I pushed the door wide open and walked in.

 The moment I was inside his office, he took his gaze up at me, but I couldn't tell what he might be thinking because he had an unreadable expression.

“H… Hello, Alpha Cain,” I said rather softly.

“Gina, why are you here?” He asked, staring at me with an expression that demanded an answer.

I quickly breathed a sigh of relief. He still calls me Gina. That means he wasn't able to find out who I truly was.
