Olivia walked into the office of her partner on the third floor building of the Los Angeles Police Department, breathing heavily as if she’d run a marathon. “I need those files,” She said, glancing around the crammed office.
“What files? What are you talking about?” Jake pretended like he had no idea of what she was talking about. Olivia could only be demanding desperately for one file and he knew exactly what file she wanted.“I need the files of my parents murder.” She said, narrowing her eyes as she scanned the office. Unfortunately, the files were not arranged according to alphabetical order.Jake breathed, holding out a hand to halt her. His gaze was steady on Olivia. “I thought we talked about this. The case is closed already. There’s nothing I can do. My hands are tied here.”Olivia scoffed. He had been saying that for weeks. She had no idea why everyone was trying to stop her from reopening her parents case. She seemed to be the only one who believed that their death was not investigated properly.“Oh, come on.” The heel of her hands pressed into the mahogany table cluttered with files and papers of different kinds. There was barely any space for her to level in. “I've worked so hard to get here. I did everything I could to be a detective because of this case. Someone killed my parents and I want to be able to put the killer behind bars. Surely, you’d understand that.”Jake lowered his head in slow defeat. Of course. Olivia had done some digging of her own into his private life and knew that her emotional talks would affect him.He had also lost a daughter and could not put her killer behind bars. It had been a fatal gunshot to the chest aimed at him. But his daughter was so unfortunate. She’d died almost instantly. As he snapped out of his thoughts, he found Olivia already shuffling through the folders for her parents file. He expected her to give up soon but he had been disappointed. Since she was transferred to the unit, she had been so invested in her parents death. He didn't blame her but he was also trying to protect her.“Olivia,” Jake called, a slight warning in his voice as he got up to try and stop her. Olivia didn’t pause for a second. “This case is too deep and complicated. It's a risky thing to go digging up the past. You're messing with the wrong people. They could kill you.”Olivia paused midday and turned to face him. Beads of sweat had broken out on her forehead as she stared at him.“Do you think I am scared of death ?” She asked. "Don't you think I know the risks? Do you think I haven't spent sleepless nights deliberating? But if dying is the only way to get their killer or killers, then let me die. They didn't deserve that. They were good people!!"Her chest was rising and falling as she spoke. She was furious but she was trying to keep it all in.What did Jake mean by she was messing with the wrong people? Who were they? He had confirmed her suspicion that her parent's case was closed due to involvement with high profile individuals.“I’m telling you, this won’t end well for you.” Jake warned, before turning away. "I won't hand the file over to you. You'll have to take it yourself and keep me out of it." With that, he walked out of the office.Olivia nodded and watched as he walked away. Pulling his chair to herself, she sat on the plush leather, thrusting her upper body forward as she looked through file after file searching for her parents’.She had to find it. It was the only clue she had to solve the case. Although it had been eleven years since the murder, everything about it was compiled and kept in the files. She had worked hard to become a detective, hoping that someday, she would be able to get justice for her parents. As a child, she was unable to decipher what really happened the night they were murdered. But as a detective, she could make use of the clues.Olivia poured over several more files with the bit of strength left in her and was about getting up to take a break when she pulled out a heavy green folder. It nearly slipped out of her sweaty palm and she had to grasp it with both hands. The minute she turned a page, Olivia knew she had finally found her parent's file just as her gaze fell on the name.A flood of relief surged through her, washing over her like a tidal wave and she reminded herself to stay calm.Olivia went through the details that was written, taking note of everything important. Suddenly, her eyes fell on a paper containing the witness report.According to the witness, the suspects had super human strength. Olivia pondered over what it could mean. It didn't make any sense to her.But as she continued reading, she was disappointed that the witness was dismissed because he was drunk on the night of the event. But she felt something was wrong. The investigation wasn't incomplete and she knew it.Olivia took that paper out and a few others that could pass off as relevant. Then she took pictures of the papers she couldn't take. Then, she assembled the rest of the pages as it had been and put the file back in place, straightening out the mess she’d made on the floor.Exiting the office, she bade Jake good bye and hurriedly left for home. Finally, she was one step closer to the truth. She was finally doing what she had planned for years.Throughout the ride home, Olivia thought about how she was going to find her parents' killers. Where would she start and who could she trust? The evidence hadn’t pointed out anything specific but she knew the answers within those pages. All she had to do was look well for them. There was a reason no one wanted to reopen the case no matter how much she had offered. There was a reason her partner was so frightened whenever she mentioned the case. The police department wasn't telling her something but she was going to find that out herself. Even if she had to die trying. She drove into the driveway and killed the car engine. She was met with complete silence. She lived alone on a very lonely street. It had been the only apartment for rental that wasn't so distant from her work place. Also, she had been very broke and for some reason, the owner agreed to let her pay rent at installment.Olivia blew out a breath, taking a moment to herself before she clambered out. Sometimes, she didn’t like the way her street was too quiet but she had no choice. With no love life and friends, she was bound to be lonely.Taking the rest of the steps to her wide front porch, Olivia fumbled in her bag for the keys. After some minutes of searching, she realized she had left them in her glove compartment. With a sigh, she walked back to get them.Letting herself into her small apartment, Olivia closed her eyes, allowing the familiar warmth to envelop her before she immediately flung them open.Something wasn’t right. She had a guest, an intruder. She rushed to turn on the lights. Her gaze was darting back and forth as she searched her apartment carefully.“Who’s there?” She shouted, her voice shaky. "Come out with your hands in the air."“Expecting someone?” A deep voice asked from behind her.Olivia quickly pulled out her gun, turning to face the intruder. But, there was no one there. Olivia was met with an empty space but only the slight fragrance in the air indicated that someone was previously there. Had she imagined it? No way. That couldn’t be possible. She’d heard those words loud and clear, each syllable enunciated for her benefit. Then, why couldn’t she see anyone?Olivia turned, pointing her gun around in case the intruder wanted to play silly games. She’d show him she wasn’t one to mess around with. Suddenly, there was a movement to her left–it was so fast that Olivia could have easily excused it for something else–perhaps, the wind–but she was a trained cop. She knew better.“Who’s there? Come out.” She had a finger on the trigger, one eye partly closed. She assumed the action stance, ready to open fire. Someone creeped out from a dark corner behind one of the saggy couches in her sitting room, and Olivia pushed her chest forward, levelling the gun.“Don’t shoot
Mate? Olivia wasn’t sure she’d heard right. And even if she did, what did he mean??“What do you mean?” Her voice was level, but her heart thudded loudly in her chest.“What it means–” He finished his survey, finally settling on her face, “–is that I’m a werewolf. And there are others like me, also with their partners which we call mates in the literal sense. Mine just so happens to be you.”Olivia chuckled. It had to be some silly joke. He wasn’t making much sense, talking some nonsense about werewolves. They only existed in books and not real life.“You need to get out of my apartment before I call the police.” Olivia put some distance between them. She was afraid she’d lose herself to him, pleading with him to touch her in places that she needed to be touched. God! She was insane. But, Edward made no move to go. Olivia stared at him with a puzzled expression on her face, baffled at this man’s audacity. Didn't he hear her? Or, did she have to repeat herself? He took a step forward.
Olivia’s eyes widened slightly at the realisation that he’d kissed her, and when Edward pulled away, she slapped him before she could stop herself. “Why the hell did you do that?” She had managed to accommodate his excuse for breaking into her house but how could he kiss her?Edward stared at her, stunned. The place she’d struck was a little reddened, the shade several colors darker than his pale skin, and he remained quiet. What had gotten into him? Since he was in her apartment, he had tried to control himself. To stop the wolf bond from influencing him but it had been hard.He didn't know Olivia would have this kind of effect on him. He wanted to hold her, kiss her and mark her the instant he took in her scent. But how could he do that when she was easily upset that he kissed her?Olivia could feel the anger and hurt building up in her chest, threatening to explode any minute now. She struggled to rein her emotions in, nails digging into the heel of her palm, drawing blood.“Please
Olivia dialed Jake’s number at once, she could not wait to relate to someone about all that had happened to her.“Something strange happened to me,” she voiced out the moment he picked the call.Jake let out a breath before he spoke up. “Go on.”She immediately explained her experience with Edward to him. She told him everything that transpired between herself and the werewolf, except for the kiss. After detailing the event to him, all Jake could do was laugh.“What’s funny?” She asked in an annoyed tone.“Your story of course. Werewolves only exists in movies, you are just overthinking things.”“You can choose to doubt me all you want but I think there's more to this than just some crazy guy claiming to be a werewolf."Jake raised an eyebrow. "What do you mean?" he asked.Olivia took a deep breath. "I think this has something to do with my parents' murder," she said. “I did some research and all the clues are leading me to some big werewolf house."Jake shook his head. "Olivia, you n
“I’m sorry but I have other things to attend to,” she answered, not caring to see the hurt in his eyes after she had declined his request.“When next do you wish to see me?” He asked her, hoping for a positive reply.“Tonight,” she gave a fast reply and to his shock.“Tonight?” He repeated and in total disbelief.“Was she starting to feel this comfortable with him?”“Only on one condition,” she added, making him curious.“And what may that condition be?”“You will have to introduce me to the rest of the family,” she answered.“Alright, I will. Be here by 9, I’ll be waiting for you by the entrance,” he said with a bright smile. She nodded with a straight face and walked away just immediately after his reply.Olivia got home, she checked her phone and saw the different calls she had gotten from her colleagues. She thought of revealing all that had happened to them but ended up deciding to handle it all on her own.By six, she prepared herself and left, heading to the pack house. Edward
Olivia felt a chill run down her spine as Edward's voice grew louder and more menacing. She knew that he was angry, and she didn't want Marcus to be caught in the middle of their argument."Marcus, I think it's best if you go now, it’s getting late," she said, trying to keep her voice steady.Marcus looked at her, concern etched on his face. "Are you sure? Don’t you need me to stay?"Olivia shook her head. "No, it's okay. I'll be fine. I just need to have some work to do and I need to be alone for that."“Is that really the problem? You seem very nervous,” Marcus asked.“No, I am fine. No need to worry,” she assured him.Marcus hesitated for a moment, but then he nodded. "Okay. Just be careful, okay?"Olivia smiled. "I will. Thank you."As Marcus left, Olivia turned to face Edward. She could see the anger in his eyes, and she knew that she was in trouble."What do you want?" she asked, trying to keep her voice calm.Edward took a step towards her, his eyes blazing with fury. “Why did
Olivia was jolted awake by the sudden noise that echoed through the house. She sat up in bed, her heart racing as she tried to identify the source of the disturbance. Was it a burglar? A storm? She strained her ears, listening for any other sounds, but the house was silent. She slipped out of bed and tiptoed to the door, peering out into the hallway. Everything seemed normal, but she couldn't shake the feeling that something was off. She crept down the hall, her bare feet making no sound on the hardwood floor. As she approached the guest room, she noticed that the door was slightly ajar. She pushed it open and stepped inside, her eyes scanning the room for any signs of danger but the room was empty.Panic began to rise in her chest as she realized that Edward was not inside the room. She called out his name in a hushed voice, hoping that he was nearby and would hear her but there was no response. On the other hand, Edward felt a strange sensation in his mind, as if someone was reachin
Chapter 9“I never agreed to be your mate!” She wanted to scream but all she could do was voice it in her head.“Do not even think of it,” she immediately heard his voice in her head. “Remember we made a deal,” he added. She immediately turned and gave him a deep frown. His mom didn’t fail to notice the tension between them, she widened her eyes in happiness. "Your mate? That's wonderful news! Come, let's sit down and talk."As they sat and chatted, Olivia couldn't help but feel a sense of belonging. She was surrounded by wolves.“So tell me, when do the two of you intend to mate each other?”“We do..”“Soon mother,” Edward immediately replied, cutting Olivia short and pressing onto Olivia’s hand.“Let go of me,” Olivia interrupted, pulling her hand away from Edward's grasp.Edward's mom looked at Olivia with surprise. "Oh, I'm sorry. Edward didn't mention that you hadn't accepted the bond yet." She was quick to understand that she wasn’t comfortable with the discussion."It's fine,"
