Chapter Four

Olivia’s eyes widened slightly at the realisation that he’d kissed her, and when Edward pulled away, she slapped him before she could stop herself. “Why the hell did you do that?” She had managed to accommodate his excuse for breaking into her house but how could he kiss her?

Edward stared at her, stunned. The place she’d struck was a little reddened, the shade several colors darker than his pale skin, and he remained quiet.

What had gotten into him? Since he was in her apartment, he had tried to control himself. To stop the wolf bond from influencing him but it had been hard.

He didn't know Olivia would have this kind of effect on him. He wanted to hold her, kiss her and mark her the instant he took in her scent. But how could he do that when she was easily upset that he kissed her?

Olivia could feel the anger and hurt building up in her chest, threatening to explode any minute now. She struggled to rein her emotions in, nails digging into the heel of her palm, drawing blood.

“Please, leave.” She’d even had the courtesy to plead with him when everything in her wanted to rain curses on him. Olivia hated the fact that if they’d stayed like that a minute longer, she’d have given in, smashing her lips against his, and kissing him hungrily. She wasn’t this weak but there was something about Edward that made her strength pale in comparison to his.

She wasn't just angry that he kissed her. She was upset that she had no control over herself because of him.

“I won’t take such disrespect,” he said quietly and Olivia strained her ears to hear him. She scoffed in disbelief, folding her arms. Olivia saw his gaze flash downward before it was back up again, and she inwardly told herself to keep her cool.

“What disrespect are you talking about?” She cocked her head, eyeing him with barely concealed disdain. "I believe I should be talking about disrespect and every manner of violation?"

“You know it.” He lifted a brow and for a moment, he looked fierce like a mountain lion preparing for attack on its prey. Olivia was growing more and more uneasy the longer she stayed with him.

“If you’re talking about the slap, I’m not going to apologize for it. You were wrong.” The kiss. She instantly felt his lips on hers as she spoke. She tried not to think about how good he tasted and the way she couldn't stop him. His mouth had smoothly worked around hers, as if on their own accord, setting her body ablaze with a fire that was both strong and unyielding. She snapped out of her thoughts, her chin slightly reddened from the thoughts.

“How am I wrong, Olivia? You're mine and I can do whatever I want with you." Edward was used to getting everything he wanted and in the way he wanted.

"I'm not yours. I have never been yours and I will never be yours." She voiced. “You have to leave. I want to go to bed. Get out of my apartment.”

Edward cocked an eyebrow. No one had ever spoken to him that way. No one except his human mate.

“Only if you’ll drop the case.”

Olivia nearly barfed, staring at him incredulously. “What’s your problem? And why are you so obsessed with my parents’ case?”

He moved towards her and Olivia took steps backward. “Don’t come any closer. Or, I’ll get you arrested and thrown in jail.”

That threat didn’t seem to bother him, but he stopped, and Olivia heaved a sigh of relief. She’d never met someone that both excited and overwhelmed her at the same time. Edward turned, and began making his way through the sitting room to leave, but at the door, he paused as if he’d forgotten something. Olivia’s heart was beating wildly and she prayed he wouldn’t do anything stupid.

“You’ll be forced to do everything I ask. You’re mine and you can’t keep pushing me away. I'll be back and when I do, you're coming with me.” he said with an air of authority, suggesting he was a man used to giving orders and Olivia’s face turned pale, as if in fear.

Before she could ask what he meant, he was gone, the loud slam of the door shaking the apartment. Olivia released the breath she didn’t know she’d been holding, and she checked to make sure he was really gone before quickly heading to where her laptop was on the coffee table.

Grabbing it, she carried it with her to the cushioned sofa, fingers flying across the black keys as she typed in the passcode. Immediately the screen came up, she headed straight to her search list, entering his name into the city’s database.

Edward.. Edward what? Olivia had forgotten to ask his surname. She put in his ordinary name, holding her breath as she waited for the results to pop up. After five minutes, nothing came up.

There were three dots on the screen, showing that it was still processing but it was taking too long. Finally, a list of everyone with the name Edward popped up. But she couldn't identify him amongst them.

She spent the next thirty minutes trying to find his details in the database but couldn't. There was no trace of him at all. No record of his birth or existence. Fear, real fear gripped Olivia.

Who exactly had visited her and why was he a ghost? Was he possibly honest about being a werewolf? What kind of creatures existed in her city?

She didn't have any answers to the questions swarming her mind. But she was sure of one thing. She had another mystery to solve and she needed to do it fast.

Whatever or whoever Edward was, he had a connection to her parent's murder. He knew something she didn't and she would have to use that to her advantage.

She needed to know everything about him before his next visit because he didn't sound like he was joking about taking her.

"You're mine," His words replayed in her head over and over again. Was she really his mate? And why would he reveal himself to her now?
