Chapter 1: Cailen's Father

"Your father is a multibillionaire and the scion of one of the most wealthy families in the town. Being one of the boys who inherited the most fortune comes with a significant amount of responsibilities. On the other hand, due to the nature of their family business, he is compelled to work overseas, and it is unknown to me when he will return to the country. Keep your faith strong and wait for him to return. Isn't it possible that could happen? I can tell you with certainty, Cailen, that the event was close to taking place."

"Why, Mom? You don't have any kind of connection with him, do you? The Internet is currently available everywhere in the world. We are able to communicate with him through video calls sometimes, similar to what some of my other friends do on the weekends with their fathers." she sadly responded, causing me to feel horrible for what I had done and said to her.

Hearing those comments caused my abdomen to turn into a knot and my throat to feel as if it had lumps. I can tell how excited Cailen is to see her dad through the eyes that she's given me at that moment. Before giving my response to what she had said, I had to force down many swallows.

"I have, but due to the fact that he is a busy person and a businessman at the same time, we are unable to reach him whenever we want. Cailen, I will always tell you that while you are a child, he comes to see us here frequently. He did not miss that. You must understand him. Your dad is not like your friend's dad. He has a lot on his plate, I mean he has a lot of work to finish."

It is one of the lies I deliberately established in her impressionable head when she was younger. I don't want to tell a lie, but I know that if she finds out the truth, it will be excruciating for her. If I were to come to the point of saying that, Cailen would immediately close her mouth, and I would be able to read the distress on her face. However, it only lasted for a brief time.

"You know what, Cailen? You are being quite inconsiderate to your mom. I'm sorry, but I just can't help but feel unhappy right now."

"Why?"

"And you have the audacity to question me like that?"

I wrap both of my hands around my waist while I made my eyes as wide as I can to show it to her.

"You, too, are behaving in a heartless way. You continue to bring up your dad, despite the fact that it is patently evident that I should be the one to be keeping an eye on you around the clock."

The laughter that Cailen just let out revealed both of the dimples on her cheeks. It was passed down to her by her father. When I started walking toward her, she immediately started running away in the opposite direction to get away from me.

"Where do you think you're going, Cailen?"

She giggled, holding the hem of her knee-length dress before she replied.

"Come on, follow me, Mom! I'm going to see my father today—"

She had already collided with some dashing gentlemen in black suits, she was unable to complete the statement she had started. Because of this, she found herself compelled to crouch on the ground.

"I am sorry. I had no intention of doing that—"

My mouth half-opened when I saw the man kneel in front of my daughter and assist her in rising to her feet. I immediately felt sick to my stomach, as if I was going to throw up.

Cailen's eyes were suddenly glued to the man's face, as if she were familiar with him.

Naturally, she was able to! I'll show his picture a lot to Cailen because that mysterious man is my daughter's father. He was Cohen Hamilton!

As I continued to look at him for a few more seconds, it seemed as though the earth beneath my feet was becoming increasingly difficult to move.

That would be him!

I am 100% sure it was him!

Even though he was covering his eyes at the moment with dark glasses, I was still able to recognize him based on the posture of his body and the way he was speaking.

That event took place when my close friend Hailey and I went out to a bar. He was the man with whom I had a sexual encounter lasting only one night. The consequence of Cailen's existence is that I had sexual contact with him. As soon as I started thinking about it, I felt a tightening in my chest as my heart started to race the beat.

"Cailen!" I tried to get her attention, but I failed as her attention was now drawn to him.

Despite this, my daughter is wary, particularly when it comes to her father. She has always craved his attention since she was young. If it took place that they knew each other without proper plans, there would undoubtedly be a lot of turmoil. And I don't want that conflict to develop between the two of us. "It's okay young lady. You are now forgiven." he smiled and patted Cailen on the head as he responded.

At that moment, my heart was almost ruptured while watching them. If it was not a crime, I already told them right away about the relationship they had.

"There's no need to apologize. I already know it wasn't your fault. Just be careful with your steps next time."

I grew even more rigid after Cailen took his hands and appeared on the verge of tears during their conversation. I am aware of what was going through her head that moment, and in order to prevent her from saying something that may have disrupted the peace and tranquility that we have established in our world, I made a beeline for her and gave her a tight embrace. I hope that this is the best solution.
