2: My son, my light

Cora’s POV

“Thank you for the meal, you know I’d save the money for breakfast and lunch because of you.” I jokingly said as we walked toward the park where Clyde loves to play.

“No worries, as long that little brat is happy. You know how much I love your son like my own nephew, if only I can bring you both into my house I will.” We both sat on the bench while Clyde runs towards the children who already playing, some of them already knew him.

How busy I am and tired, I always keep sure that I have time to let Clyde enjoy his childhood. Going here and letting him play to make my heart at ease, seeing his bright smile while playing with other kids without any discrimination.

Not thinking about once he goes to school, we are not wealthy like others. He’s an Alpha but not from a rich family, my worries every day keep adding up every single day.

“What are you thinking so deeply, did you even hear what I said?” Tally is now standing while looking at her phone, “based on how confused your reaction is, maybe not. I will go now; my mother asks me to come home immediately. I’m sorry, I will make sure to give more time for you!” She kissed me on my cheek and run toward where Clyde and do the same thing.

All I can do is wave my hands at her and look at her back, she hurried back inside her car and leave. Now, without her, I’m too anxious to look at my surrounding. As long I will not emit any scent, no one will know that I am omega.

I need to be strong for my son, he needs someone to stand for him until he can protect himself. Also, I don’t need to be picky about the job. Cleaning and cooking are simple, as long there is no trouble coming between me and Tally’s cousin then everything is fine.

I need to give my best for my child, he’s the only one I have in this world. The reason for my existence, I don’t need a mate or so-called partner.

“Mom, mom!” Clyde ran toward me with a big smile on his face, his hand hiding behind his back.

“What is it? What are you hiding?” I look at him in curiosity, “did you fight with someone, let me see your arm,” I said, just thinking that he was hurt and made my heart throb in great pain.

But instead of the wound, three pieces of flowers greeted me. His little chuckles echo in my ears, “silly mom, who would hurt me? Everyone here is nice, this is for you!” He extends his hand while looking at me cutely.

I can’t help my tears to come out, “oh gosh, why are you so cute?” I pull him between my eyes and hug him tightly, “thank you so much, I love you.”

Raising him on my own is the best decision I ever did in my life, no matter how hard my life I won’t blame him for it. He is really my strength and I can’t imagine if he disappears from my life.

His hand caressed my cheek to wipe the tears coming down, “mom is a big crybaby, why are you always crying?” He tilts his head to look into my eyes, “don’t cry, I will protect you if someone bullies you, hmm?”

“No one bullies your mom, Clyde, I’m crying because I’m happy that I have you.” I pinch his both cheeks and kiss his forehead, “are you done playing?”

“Hmm, they said that it’s time for them to go home doing some homework, I said okay but I don’t know what is it. They always said it, if only I have HomeWorks too then I can talk to them about it.”

How innocent, I can’t help but feel sorry for him.

“Don’t worry, next time you will also have homework. I will enroll you in that school too, “I point to where the children come out earlier, “you also want to have new friends, right?” I look at him but he is more worried than happy, “why?” I ask.

“Uhm, isn’t that place too expensive? I talk to someone and he said that he’s not going there because it’s expensive, I don’t want to go there too.” He bites his lower lips.

“B-but it’s okay you don’t have to worry about that. I will have a job soon and I can afford that place for you,” I said even though I am still not sure if my job will be all right.

His face brightens up, “really, mom?”

“Really,” I said and pat his head, “now, let’s go to the market and buy you some school supplies. You want that, hmm?”

“Yes!” He exclaims.

“So tired,” Clyde said and laying down on the couch, “mom, I’m so happy today and everything we buy is so beautiful the book is…”

I look at him on the couch, he is now sleeping peacefully but his lips are still smiling. “I know, I’m happy too,” I whisper and kiss his cheeks one more time.

Now, it’s time to inform Tally that I will do the job she offers, I will do everything will Clyde in school so I don’t need to hire a nanny for him. The job is easy and the time is manageable, it’s better unlike to other jobs I got.

Just a few rings before she answers the call, “hi Cora! Did you already decide about the job?” Her tone sounds busy and so in the background, maybe she’s in an important meeting.

“Did I disturb you?” I ask, “sorry, but I think it’s better to inform you immediately about my decision.”

“No, no, it’s fine. You’re not disturbing me at all, so what’s your decision?” Tally replied.

“I will accept the job, I think it’s easier and more manageable, I can do my job and take care of Clyde at the same time,” I said and smiled, I caress Clyde’s hair.

“That’s what I’m saying!” Tally on the other line exclaims, “so, when do you want to sign your contract and discuss the payment and the other clauses?”

“Will I meet him?” I suddenly feel nervous; will it be all right?

“Oh, I think no. He’s on his trip abroad, maybe I will be the one who discusses everything with you, isn’t that nice?” She chuckles. “And make sure to come with that little brat, I will coax him more to see me as beautiful like you.”

“T-that’s, okay. I will enroll him in school too.”

Everything seems going so smoothly to the point that it makes me nervous as if there is something that will happen suddenly.

Since that day happened, everything in my life become miserable to the point I’d never see any light in my life. So, having this kind of smooth sailing life suddenly, as if it’s beyond reality for me.

I’m nervous that I suddenly wake up to the reality that everything that happens is just a dream of mine that I wanted to happen, that I’m still in the same place where I gradually sink into a black hole.

“I’m happy for you, Cora, I hope you are happy for your life too.” Tally’s voice suddenly becomes gentle, it made my tears fall again.

“I am, Tally, to the point I’m afraid,” I reply to her and sigh.

“Don’t be, this is what reality, Cora, enjoy everything. I will talk to you later when we meet for the contract, for now, you better rest.” She said and hung up the call.

I really hope so, I’m hoping that there is nothing wrong will happen again.
