Chapter 5

I had my morning cup with Vickie. She reminded me it was just an interview. I didn't have to take the job if I was too uncomfortable.

I also reminded her it would work out. What I didn't tell her was the reason it was going to work out, and that reason was because I didn't want her to hold back the payments for my motel room rent.

I appreciated that she would do something so kind and sweet for me, but I can't let her. I have to start taking care of myself. I have to get back on my feet because she is right. Mathis doesn't know where I am.

I was careful.

I was beyond careful.

I also needed to learn to take care of myself. I have to learn about paying bills about waking up early for work.

Mathis never allowed me to pay the bills, and once he started giving me an allowance, he further took away my checkbooks.

I have been a woman who has depended on a man my entire life, and now was the time for me to take control of that, take control of my life.
