Chapter 3

The next morning, I found myself sitting down in a very comfortable chair and sharing a cup of coffee with Vickie. I have been awake since five a.m., a bad habit of being forced by Mathis to be already awake, starting my housework before he left for work.

I didn't intend to come down. I was still feeling a slight nervous, but I'm not a rude woman, and when another woman, especially a kind woman like Vickie, asked you to share a cup of coffee with her, you did.

No buts about it, you sat down and enjoyed that cup.

“What brings you to our little town, honey?” she asked me gently. “More cream?” she asked again and held up the bottle of vanilla creamer before adding. “You like vanilla creamer?”

“No Vickie, thank you I have enough and vanilla is good-” I started to tell her that the reason I had come here was personal, and I wasn't ready to talk about it, but she raised her purple manicured hand.

“Just good? Meaning, you don't like it that much. Which flavor is your favorite?”she asked an
