48: Dust And Ashes

Mikael was awake when I got to the car. He gazed at me with a look that said that he knew that the appointed time had finally arrived. I pressed a kiss to his forehead and lips.

"See? I told you we would make it to midnight," I said and he embraced me. I held on to him, not wanting to let go just yet.

"It's okay, Blair. My time has come, you know that," he whispered in my ear. I let out a shaky breath and slowly pulled away. Mikael cupped the side of my face and kissed me, a single tear rolling down his right cheek.

"I love you," he said, his voice shaky. "I love you too," I rasped and he gave me a pained smile. I wiped his tears with my fingers.

"Don't cry or I will have to start crying. It won't be nice," I told him. He placed a trembling hand on my stomach, his gaze locked with mine.

"Take care of her, okay?" He croaked and I nodded.

"I will."
