CHAPTER 001: The Bloody Beginning

AGATHA’s P.O.V.

A drop of blood;

That is all what is takes for my life to be completely changed by everything. I was walking down the dark aisle of the streets when all of the sudden, a shadow came towards me. I feel anxious, thinking that someone’s eyes might be watching my every move. I took a step back, before looking all around the place.

“Hello? Is there anyone there?” I asked, but no one answered.

I took a deep breath, before I continue walking down the street. Today is my sixteenth birthday, and I can’t wait to see my parents after a few weeks of being away from them since school had already started once again. I brought some of the presents that my classmates gave me, and I am ready to surprise them by my sudden appearance.

But the gut feeling is way too strong. My instincts are telling me to run away as soon as possible before something bad could ever happen to me in this street. I began tearing the wrappers of my presents, hoping that it will temporary give me the satisfaction of feeling safe as for the moment. But to no avail. I stood there, panicking.

“Shit!” I muttered to myself, the moment that I felt something stingy upon my finger. I got a paper cut.

A drop of blood fell off to the ground. And from that moment on, I already knew that my life wouldn’t be the same way as it did before. A garbage can nearby suddenly break the silence of the dark and gloomy street. I shrieked, surprised by the sudden noise. I knew that it wouldn’t fall on its own, so I started walking faster. That’s when I hear footsteps behind me.

“No... Faster, Agatha,” I whispered to myself, panicking.

As I tried to escape, the footsteps behind me started to thump faster, as if we are synchronized. I turned around, facing a tall, shadowy figure behind me. I can’t see his face but his eyes, it was gleaming red under the bright lights of the moon. He just stood there, tilting his head as if watching my every move.

“Excuse me? What do you want? Why are you following me?” I asked him.

“You.” That was his plain response, before raising his hands towards my direction, pointing his fingers exactly on my chest.

Thankfully, I was a few meters away from the guy. The moment that I saw him smirked, I started to run, fearing for my life. I was horrified, seeing an unknown and mysterious creature that night. He is not just a simple human, and I’m sure of that. I don’t believe in monsters, but because of that night, I began to seek deeper about the underworld.

I sprinted for almost five minutes, before reaching our house. I knocked on the door, but no one answered. The man is nowhere behind me but I still feel anxious for what happened.

“Mom? Dad?! Please open up the door! Help!” I shouted.

Then I remembered about the spare key hidden under the mat of our backdoor. I immediately went there, before opening up the only entrance that I knew. But to my surprise, I realized that my nightmare was just about to begin.

“No... Mom... Dad... No!” I cried, as I dropped on my knees.

There they are. Lying dead on the floor of our kitchen. Both are covered in blood, as if being murdered by a monstrous creature. Now I began to understand about the man whom chase after me earlier... I’m still not sure of it but I already have a guess upon his nature... He is a vampire. What else can he be?

“Mom, Dad! Please don’t... Don’t leave me! No!” I cried, trying to shake them off in hopes of finding out that this is just a silly joke. But it wasn’t. Both of them are already gone.

I held my chest, unable to breathe properly out of too much pain and shock. I wanted to mourn them overnight, but then, I heard the footsteps once again. I froze, stunned by realization that I didn’t close the back door. I immediately sprinted towards my room upstairs, before grabbing a bat as I hide inside of my closet.

All I can hear is my heavy breathing as well as the footsteps making its way towards me. I covered my mouth, eyes full of tears as I tried my best to cry silently after being traumatized by what happened to my dear parents.

“I think she is not here anymore. I saw her presents downstairs, so I guess she already found out about her parents,” a man with a deep voice suddenly speak up, as if talking to someone even though he’s just alone in the place.

“Find her! I can’t possibly lose her again!” another man from the other line if the phone answered.

Now I just confirmed that it is not only one being who did this, but two. I tightly grasped upon the baseball bat, mentally debating with myself whether I should take the risk and fight back or if I should just stay safe and hidden in my closet.

“But I can’t step out of the borders of our lands. This is the end, Master. You have to wait until she is eighteen, remember? The human is too young to understand about our world.”

“But what if they find her first?!” he insisted, asking in a furious tone of his voice this time.

“Not for as long as they knew whom she is. And I already did something for that. Now it’s time to go home, my brother. My mission is done.”

Those were the last words I heard from them. The moment that he left, I began to sobbed uncontrollably, hesitating to come out in fear of losing my life after I just lost my parents’. I can’t believe that in just a snap, my almost perfect life could change just like that. I hugged my knees, before I started shrieking out of pain and sorrow. Tears are streaming down to my eyes, and I can’t help but to scream my anger against the world.

“No! Fuck! Please don’t leave me!” I cried.

“Wake up, Agatha! Wake up!” a familiar voice said, before I felt a tap on my shoulder.

My eyes widely opened up before I suddenly came into a sitting position. Turns out, I was dreaming, again. A bloody nightmare that reminds me of my dark past... The reminds me all the reasons why I needed to seek for revenge against those cruel monsters.

“You’re having a nightmare... Again,” my boyfriend, Kiel, stated

“Sorry... I was just...”

“Your parents?” he asked me, before holding my hand while the thumb of his other hand wiped away the remaining tears on my cheeks.

“Yes. It still hunts me, until now, Kiel.”

“I know, I know. But you have to be tough. Just a little bit more of waiting, and you can finally get the justice that they deserve.”

“Thank you. Thank you for not getting tired of me. For understanding my situation,” I responded.

“I love you, Agatha.”

I just nodded, but I didn’t say it back. After the bloody thing that happened to my life, I’m not sure if I could ever say those words once again. Because ever since my parents died that night, I don’t know what it feels like to be love, and to be loved by someone.
