Chapter 9

We haven’t seen Maureen nor heard anything from her in such a long time. Seeing her now, she definitely had gotten a lot thinner. Even though she was wearing makeup, I could see that something was wrong with her. I guess since Marcus Mo has been living with me for quite a while now, that really made her sad. Though seeing her again brought memories that I tried to forget.

Marcus Mo took us to a suburb by the mountain.

Seeing the lush greenery and the pristine waters lifted my spirits.

Marcus Mo went to the trunk of the car to get something. I took out a blanket and spread it on the ground. Then I proceeded to put all the food that we brought on it. All of a sudden, Maureen pushed me aside and seated herself.

  I instinctively protected my belly.

I almost fell down. Good thing I was near a tree, and I was able to hold it for support. If it weren’t for that tree, I would have lost my balance since my belly was so huge by then.

“What is wrong with you?\" I reprimanded her, “If anything happens to the baby in my belly, I will make you pay!”

Maureen glared at me. \"I don\'t want you to have his baby! Haven’t you noticed? I cannot wait for you and Marcus to divorce! I want you out of our lives!\"

What a piece of work. I’m really hoping to knock some sense into her after I give birth, but now is not the time.

I coldly smiled at her. \"Sorry, to disappoint you. I asked Marcus for a divorce so you two can be free to do whatever disgusting things you want to do. But he wouldn’t divorce me.”

  Maureen glowered at me.

I went on, “So no matter how much you like him, you can’t be with him, I’ll make sure of that. I’m his wife, and you’re just…a spoiled, useless brat. All you ever do is paint your face and paint your nails!”

Maureen took a step forward. She really looked pissed. \"You think he loves you? You know, it’s so easy for him to cheat on you. He hates you so much, he doesn’t even want to touch you.\"

“Is that all you can say, Maureen? Marcus doesn’t love me, Marcus hates me, blah blah. I’m so much more than you are. I have a college degree, while you almost didn’t graduate from high school. Did you even pass any entrance exams? I heard that your family thinks you’re nothing but a pretty face.” It wasn’t a secret that Maureen was very much behind academically, unlike her brother who excelled at school.

\"I heard that you lost your virginity by some kind of medical procedure.\" Maureen said out loud. Remembering the unnecessarily painful procedure, my chest tightened. Maureen went on, \"Have you ever thought about it, why he didn\'t want to touch you?\"

The thick makeup on Maureen\'s face made me feel more and more like there was something wrong with her. But I brushed the thought aside, I didn’t care if she had mud or shit on her face at that point, I just wanted to slap her silly.

\"Do you remember when you got drunk at a party a month before you got married? You spent the night with Tom.\"

I was never a heavy drinker, I didn\'t even finish my cup of wine that night, but I blacked out completely. Like me, my best friend Tom had barely drank a glass of wine. The next morning, we woke up in the same bed. I can be sure that nothing happened between us, however. It wasn’t just because the doctor checked my virginity. I knew Fang Tom would never do that to me, I trusted him completely.

Just how does she know about this?

Maureen smiled and raised her mobile phone so I could see it.

\"Actually, I had someone put drugs in your cup. Of course, I also took a few photos to show Marcus. You should have married Tom instead.”

“ Marcus married you because his grandfather wanted it. The old fool pinned his inheritance on something as stupid as an arranged marriage. Marcus only married you to get his inheritance. Naturally, he doesn\'t want to touch you!\"

Whenever the topic of having children was brought up, Marcus would look at me as though he was looking at something dirty. Now I understand why. It turned out that all this was her doing. No wonder he hated me so much!

If it wasn\'t for her, he would not be like this to me. Even if he didn\'t love me, at least he’d be civil to me. Now he hated me so much he couldn’t even have a child with me the normal way.

I took a step forward. I was so angry that I wanted to punch her straight in the face.

Before I even got to her, she fell to the ground, as though someone had pushed her back. \"Maureen!\"

Marcus shouted and ran to her.

  \"I didn\'t push her. I really didn\'t do anything.\"

I was afraid that Marcus would misunderstand.

He didn\'t even look at me. He carefully carried Maureen to the car. I didn’t even bother to gather the food on the picnic blanket, I just got in and he drove to the hospital in a rush.

He drove so fast that several times we nearly hit another car. Though I was wearing the seatbelt, I still protected my abdomen, fearing for the worst.

Fortunately, we arrived at the hospital in one piece. Marcus Mo carried her all the way inside. My belly had gotten big, so I struggled to keep up.

Before he reached the doctor\'s office, he heard him shout, \"Jilin, she fainted again!\"

  Again?
