Chapter 4

Elena pov

I'm bolting through bushes and small trees trying to run as fast as I can while I make my way through the forest. I don't hear anyone behind me but don't dare to stop and look around.

My lungs are burning and I feel how my legs begin to get tired. I'm starting to have a hard time making sure I don't trip and fall over something. That could be the end of me!

I hardly get to think I might have made it when I hear a furious roar again, and this time it's closer than before!

The roar scares the life out of me.

A shiver runs down my spine and I miss where I place my feet and trip on a root and fall with my face first to the ground.

I just manage to get my arms up and protect my face when my body hits the ground. Pain instantly shoots up my ankle and I have to bite myself on the lip to prevent myself from whimpering out.

Trying to get up I hear a low snarl behind me and turn around while I'm sitting on the ground.

The wolf is standing just behind me with his teeth on display.

I don't dare to move, just sitting there and waiting for it to come after me!

The wolf turns his head and it looks like it's listening for something before it snaps its head in my direction and start to stalk closer to me. It stops right in front of me but doesn't attack.

It looks at my ankle and up at me again, I don't get it! The wolf's eyes look intelligent, just like it knows I'm hurt.

Hearing the roar again the wolf turns its head to the side and then back at me when it snarls and shows its teeth to me but doesn't do anything else!

I can't sit here and wait for whatever is on its way and the wolf in front of me doesn't seem to attack. I slowly get up on my feet with my eyes constantly on it.

When I'm up the wolf walk past me and stops a few steps in front of me and turn to look at me. I don't get it? Does it want me to follow?

I hear a growl further away and there is no time to stay here and think more about it.

Placing my foot in front of me, pain instantly shoots up from my ankle but I can't pay any attention to it.

I start to run with a limp in the direction where the wolf is standing and when it sees me move it starts to run in one direction. I just follow it through bushes and a far bit in the woods before it stops right behind the tree line.

On the other side of the trees is a wide road and I guess it's trafficked.

It was here the man told me to go and I turn my head to look at the wolf who stands a bit away from me. How could it know where I was supposed to go? I know it helped me I just have a hard time wrapping my head around it. It turns its head and looks behind us and listens before it growls at me and I guess it wants me to go now.

"Thank you!" I say like it would understand me speaking to it. The wolf just looks at me for a second before it turns around and starts running at high speed. I'm alone and turn my head to look down at the road before I start making my way over to it.

For every step, I take my ankle hurt and I have to push my body hard to make it over.

When I reach the road I can't slow down and keep running with every inch of energy I have left in my body!

Staying on the right side of the road I make my way forward for what feels like forever. My heart is raising so fast in my chest and my lungs hurt with every breath I take.

Pain shoots up from my ankle but I still keep pushing forward.

I have heard the roar come closer only for it to be further away and on the other side. It's like whatever kind of animal it is it's running around and I don't want to come across it.

I haven't met any car on the road or seen any houses since I started running on it. I'm deathly tired and feel like I'm going to collapse if I don't get to sit down and rest.

From far away I hear a noise that sounds just like a car and it's coming my way. I stop running and slowly turn around to listen closer if it really is a car heading my way!

That's when I see some headlights coming my way in a steady phase. I'm frozen to my spot in fear!

What if it's him or his men who are out searching for me?

I'm not ready to give up when I have come this far away from him and the house. The car comes closer when I hear the roar right to my left. Turning my head to the side I start to shiver in fear when the car almost have reached where I stand.

I have to take my chance!

Lifting my hand in front of me and motioning the car to stop, the driver hits the break and the car comes to a stop right in front of me with a screeching halt.

I feel my heartbeats pounding in my ears when I slowly make my way out of the headlights and limp my way over to the passenger side.

Leaning down my eyes land on an old woman with grey hair sitting in the driver seat. I take a breath when I see her motion for me to come inside.

Opening the door I lean my head inside and instantly get an odd feeling about her! My options are either to stay here and face whatever is out there and are furious or take my chances with her!

The decision is easy to make, taking a seat in the passenger seat I close the door and place the seatbelt on me before the car start to move.
