Chapter 3

Elena pov

A man is standing in the doorway with a big cloak over him. Cover his whole face and I can't see how he looks. He stands there for a second before he takes fast steps over to where I am. I try to push back against the wall while I hold the curtain around me tight.

"Get dressed quickly!" He says and holds some clothes out in front of me. I just look between him and the clothes but don't dare to move.

He takes a step closer and grabs my hand and places the clothes in it.

"Hurry if you want to escape this place," he says and turns his back against me, and head over to the door. He stands there and looks into the hallway.

I don't trust him but I'm ready to take my chance, everything else than staying here has to be better!

Looking at the clothes in my hand I quickly pull the pants and shirt on. Don't have time to look if I got them on properly when he walks back and hands me a pair of sneakers. They look a bit big but will do just fine!

I pull them on and make sure to tie them hard. When I'm done he places a jacket on me with a hood and takes a firm grip on my arm before he starts dragging me out of the room.

I follow him wherever he wants to take me as long as it's away from here!

Stepping out in the hallway my heart beat faster in my chest, the hallway is empty and I try to listen for any sound that someone is on their way to find me out here with him.

Looking around I see whoever lives here is rich with the way the hall looks like. Big red carpets and expensive furniture everywhere I look.

A sound comes from behind and I jump in fright when he starts dragging me down some stairs and I try to keep up with his fast steps. I'm focusing on making my feet move forward after him and not trip over myself.

When we come down the stairs I see we are in a big hall with the entrance door right in front of me and I only want to rush over there and run outside.

But he pulls me the other way and through a living room at full speed and into a kitchen before we come to stand in a hall. He pulls me over to a back door and opens it!

He stops and looks around before he drags me outside and right into the woods. I'm scared and can hardly move forward properly while he drags me with a firm phase. It's dark outside and because it's a full moon the forest is lit up, there is no way I would be able to see anything otherwise. I'm constantly on edge and try to listen for any sound that we are being followed.

"Where are we going?" I have to ask him while I try to catch my breath from his fast speed. He doesn't answer and just keeps dragging me through the forest. Through bushes and over fallen trees!

My lungs start to hurt and I try to ignore the burning feeling when he suddenly stops and starts sniffing in the air.

It's odd! Why would he do that?

I can't smell anything.

He lets go of my arm and disappears behind some bushes. I stand there rotten to my place and don't know if he wants me to follow or just stay here and wait for whatever he is doing. I have no idea where we are and wouldn't know in what direction to go. Trying to catch my breath I start looking around where I stand. All I can see are trees and bushes, no sign of any road or other houses. I guess we are in the middle of the forest. Slowly I start to take some small steps to where he disappeared. It takes a moment before he comes running back with a backpack and place it on me.

I don't know why but I let him do it.

"Here are some food, money, and a new passport for you! You can't ever go back. You have to start over somewhere else" he says and starts to drag me with him again.

I don't understand what he is saying, why can't I go back? My mind is railing with all kinds of thoughts when we come out on the top of a cliff.

"Why can't I go home?" I ask him and try to keep up with his pace.

He stops and looks over the edge before he starts to drag me a bit forward.

"Because your family sold you to him! If anyone ever catches you there are punishments worse than death you will be facing!" When he tell me this all color drains from my face and it feels like my heart shattered into tiny pieces.

Is what he's telling me the truth then I can't ever go back and I'm all alone from now on.

"You have to make your way down this side and run past the last trees over there!" He points with his hand but my mind is stuck with his word that they sold me. How could they do that to me? My own family?

"You have to get as far away as you can from here and hide your identity! The bus station you will find it if you just follow the road for a while. You can't look back! Just run!" He says when I hear a roar I have never heard anything like it before. It scares me right to my bone when he starts to shake me violently. I'm stuck in fear and sadness!

When I woke up this morning I never thought this day would turn out like this. I just stare right in front of me! My body doesn't work anymore.

"Do you hear me?!! Run now! I can't help you any longer. Just run!" He says before he gives me a push and my body falls over the cliff and land on a slope. The impact makes me come back to my senses and register what just happened.

I slide on my side down the steep slope over rocks and small bushes. Nothing stops my fall and it feels like forever before my body hits the bottom with a thud.

My body hurts from everywhere when I try to rise up. Standing on my legs I feel as if anything is broken in my body when I hear a low growl to the side of me. I try to swallow the lump in my throat before I slowly turn my head to the right and look at what it is.

My eyes are about to fall out of their sockets with the sight in front of me.

Higher up on the slope stands a big grey and white wolf with the bluest eyes I have ever seen.

I have never seen a wolf in real life before but that wolf has to be a lot bigger than they normally are or is it some kind of large dog I don't know exists?

He looks right at me when he starts to growl and show all his teeth to me. I slowly start to back away while keeping my eyes on it when I see it start to make its way down the steep slope. There is no time for me to waste and wait for it to catch me. I can't outrun it but I hope to have a chance at least with a headstart! It has to make its way down the slope first. Turning around quickly and start running with all I have left in me!
