Good riddance

Helen's POV

With a heavy exhale, I grabbed my packed luggage, darted a final look at the tiny space which I had been privileged to call my bedroom for three years.

As I felt tears prick my eyes, I quickly exited the room and made my way out of the mansion.

The whole surrounding was as silent as a graveyard as everyone had retired to bed, and only the chirping of owls and crickets filled the night.

Under Fernando's strict supervision, I had finally signed the divorce papers immediately we got back from the business gala last night.

And after I signed it, he had left with the envelope, without uttering another word.

A sad smile curved my lips as I trudged down the second floor.

My life was truly a miserable one.

Nothing good ever happened to me.

I must have destroyed a country in my past life for me to be allergic to good luck in this life.

Only the heavens knew where I was heading to because I sure as hell had no idea.

I was still yet to tell Lucy the truth about my entire situation, so she couldn't even help me if she wanted to.

Plus I had kept my phone switched off even after we returned from the gala for some unknown reasons.

I still had no idea how I was supposed to tell Lucy that I needed her help, without feeling guilty.

Fuck my stupid hyper independence that didn't even help my life in any way.

"Madam Helen?" A feminine voice whispered from behind, causing me to stop in my path and face her.

On seeing the head maid, I managed a small smile.

She was clad in a brown nightgown, and her hair was disheveled while her face still showed signs of sleepiness.

"Why are you still up, Lilian?"

She threw me a worried look before averting her gaze to the luggage in my hold.

Her expression instantly turned crestfallen as she quickly realized what was happening.

"You are leaving so soon, Madam Helen. You didn't even bother to inform me before leaving." She accused me, and under the dim light that the moon provided, I saw that her eyes were glistening with tears.

Fighting back tears, I held her hands and forced myself to grin.

"I'm sorry, Lilian. I didn't want to bother you."

"I wonder what has come over young master. How can he do this to you without giving you enough time to gather yourself? How can he be such a monster?" Lilian wept profusely, as she gently squeezed my hands.

If only I knew the answer to that question myself.

"It's fine," I nodded. 'I will be fine. Take care of yourself, okay? And thanks for everything. You were the only one who cared for me in this house and I'm very grateful for the kindness you showed me."

Sniffling, she shook her head. "It's nothing, ma'am. Master Fernando doesn't and will never deserve an angel like you. I really hope he meets his match and regret ever letting you go. I wish I could do something to help you."

My heart tugged with immense despair at her words, but I forced my tears away.

There was nothing my waterworks could do for me now.

The probability of Fernando ever wanting me back was nonexistent because I had seen the sensual and affectionate chemistry between him and his love last night.

I had seen the way his grey eyes twinkled with pure adoration as he looked at her.

I had seen literal stars dancing in both their eyes as they waltzed on the dance floor.

"I will be fine, Lilian." I reiterated, even though I knew that was nothing but a nasty lie.

"In that case, I have something for you, ma'am," Lilian uttered, bringing a small envelope out of her pocket and stretching it to me.

I made no move to collect it from her and instead, I tentatively eyed her outstretched hand, already having an idea of what the envelope could contain.

"What is this for?" I questioned.

"It's a token of my assistance, ma'am," She grabbed my hand and placed the envelope on it.

I gasped as I opened the envelope and found multiple ten dollar bills inside it.

"I can't take this, Lilian. It's too much." I shook my head, and made to hand it back to her but she just engulfed me in a warm hug.

I felt wetness on my shoulder as she embraced me tighter.

"I will miss you a lot, madam Helen. You were like the daughter I never had. I wish you all the best things in life." She sniffled, and before I could say Jack Robinson, she was gone.

Leaving me to stand alone in the quiet of the night.

Fernando's POV

"I want to move in with you as soon as possible, babe. Will you let me?" Bethany asked.

My heart warmed as her pretty blue eyes peered into mine.

"Of course, my love." I uttered, before pressing a kiss to her forehead.

How could I say no to the love of my life?

Bethany and I had known each other since middle school, but we started dating in highschool.

We had broken up after graduation because she wanted to move to Paris to attend a modeling school over there.

We had kept in touch throughout the years of course, even while I was still married to that woman.

I could still remember how Bethany had gotten mad after finding out that I had secretly gotten married to Helen.

However, after I had explained Helen's pathetic situation to her, she had instantly forgiven me.

Bethany knew I had eyes for no woman other than her.

Throughout my marriage to Helen, I had only fucked her thrice and that was because I needed her to carry mine and Bethany's child.

But as useless as she was, Helen had failed to conceive even though I had broken her hymen on our wedding night.

Only the heavens knew if she had truly been a virgin in the first place because I didn't trust a desperate leech like her.

"What do you think about decorating our bedroom with a white and brown theme?" She asked excitedly, as she looped her arms around my neck.

"I couldn't care less about the theme of our bedroom. What matters is that you will be there with me." I replied, and gave her a chaste kiss on the lips.

"Aww, babe," She cooed. "You make me so happy. I'm so glad that Helen bitch is now gone from our lives. She has moved out, right?"

"Yes, my love." I replied.

My butler had called to give me the good news some hours ago while I was still at work.

After she signed the papers last night, I drove straight to Bethany's condo and went to work from there that morning.

"Good riddance to bad rubbish. We should remember to fumigate her previous bedroom." Bethany huffed.

"Definitely," I reassured her. "I plan on transforming the room into a storage room."

"That's better then."

My phone chose our moment of intimacy to vibrate with a call.

"Damn it," I cursed, detaching from Bethany.

She just smiled and planted a peck on my cheek before exiting the room.

Gruffing, I fished the offending device out of my pocket and checked the caller id.

The ire within me instantly subsidized when I saw that my mother was calling.

"Good day, mother." I greeted, after answering the phone.

"How are you, my son?" She asked.

"I'm alright, ma. And you?"

"I'm good too. How is the wench? Has she taken in yet?"

Scoffing, I responded. "Can a barren orchard bear fruits?"

"Never in my life have I encountered someone as useless as that girl." Mother hurled.

"You don't have to worry about her anymore, ma,"

"What do you mean?" She sounded unsure.

"I have divorced her and am planning on marrying Bethany as soon as I can." I said, smirking smugly.

"You are not pulling my legs, are you?'

"Of course not," I chuckled. "Helen is gone from my life."

"Wow, that's great news, son. I'm so happy for you and Bethany. We should throw a party to celebrate this great news." Her voice dripped of elation as she spoke.

"Very well, ma."

"Extend my regards to Bethany, okay?"

"Alright, ma." I replied, and she cut the call.
