Chapter 9

 

I could feel the ground shaking, and I could hear the sound of the trees falling into the sinkhole. I tried to hum to forget that all of these are happening. We were in a pasture.

Auggie put his head on my lap and lay on the grass.

The sun was setting, so the sky looked so orange. Birds were going back to their nest, and we stayed there, waiting for the first star to appear.

A butterfly suddenly landed on the flower in front of me. Auggie noticed it too.

"Do you believe in the butterfly effect?" I asked, caressing his hair. "That a butterfly flapping its wings can cause a storm or tornado halfway around the world."

"No, I only believe in your effect," he said, smiling.

"What effect?"

"That you can send chaos in my stomach that makes the butterflies even flutter their wings aggressively." I blushed a little bit.

I stared at the butterfly. I tried to touch its wings, but it flew away in the direction of the sinkhole. The ground started to shake again. What if
