This was one of those moments when I really needed Kanox. I needed his advice or at least to hear his voice.

While I had no idea what I was supposed to do, he would definitely have the answer.

My eyes focused on the sick creature, wearing someone’s else’s skin as if that was no big deal. He looked human, but didn’t smell like one.

Honestly, if he were to walk among other humans, I had little to no hope that anyone around him would understand that he was a sick, sinister creature, not one of their own.

When he stepped so close I could smell a hint of sulfur on him, I realized he wasn’t just another supernatural. This was the first time I caught on the smell as well.

“Will you first tell me the full story about my parents?”

Clearly, he saw through me. I wanted to know, yes, but I also was using the question to stall, to win some time for my mates.

“Of course, anything for you,” it said, grinning.

I gulped, growing more nervous with every second that passed, but
