Chapter 1

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was without form and void; and great darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God hovered over the surface of the waters. The Holy Spirit watched the earth with great emotion. Oh how long it had been!

It had been a century since the destruction of earth. Finally the Spirit of the Ruler came down upon it and rebirthed it; He returned to the land forlorn and rebuilt it. Like an architect visiting a once grand design the Spirit of the Lord sighed in sadness at the souls that had been lost. Those beings that had been created from His reflection had given up their place for a path that wasn't meant for them. He may have judged them justly, but His heart still ached at the thought of all who had been lost - especially the one who led it all.

He gave it light in the form of the sun and moon and created everything in it. Once he was done he sighed in pity. For he could sense the auras of those that survived. Yet He let them be, for His nature wouldn’t allow Him to destroy that which He loved. Rather He focused on the new. He created man and woman and made them lord over Eden – a sacred garden of Vitality and Healing. And he left Raphael to tend to them. He called the man Adam and the woman Eve.

The years flashed past. Soon a few days became years, and years became centuries. Adam and Eve lived in peace until Lucifer deceived them. And God’s heart was broken again. Raphael felt the guilt of their sin, for he was meant to protect them from Lucifer, yet he failed. In rage he fought Lucifer and inflicted a grave wound on the fallen angel. Lucifer’s blood was still filled with the life of an angel, and it birthed a small plant that bore a red fruit after many decades.

Legends say that the fruit was consumed, and the one who consumed it was transformed. Her transformation was unclear, but it is said that she was the mother of all monsters. And it was from her that this legend was born – the Legend of the New Moon.

Kylie’s eyes caressed the last page of the book she was reading with much love. She desperately sought another page, but there was no more. This book had kept her company for the past few hours. It's thick pages had become all her fingers could recognise during this brief period. Alas, all good things were meant to come to an end one day. In this case, in a few hours; for she had read a book of almost 400 pages in less than two hours!

“Oh no! I am almost late for class!” Kylie exclaimed once her eyes fell on to the large wall clock in her room. Her room was a typical student’s room. There were two beds, with each one at the sides of the room. Hanging over the walls were posters and notice boards that held the daily goals of Kylie and her roommate who was home right now.

Kylie’s side of the wall was much different from her roommates. On her roommate’s wall were several posters of good looking male movie stars and a few newspaper articles detailing the earliest successes of these stars. Kylie’s section on the other hand, was littered with notes about mythical creatures and information about these creatures and reported sightings of them.

“I have to get ready,” Kylie sighed regretfully as she closed the book she had just finished reading which was titled, “Origins and the Curse of the New Moon: Volume 1.” She threw off the huge blanket she had been wrapped in and jumped off her bed. She brushed her long, wavy hair off her face as her eyes trailed her closet for something decent to wear. Soon she picked something out. Kylie opted for a white blouse and a pair of blue denim trousers. She changed quickly and gazed into the mirror to see if there was anything amiss. The blouse complemented her ebony complexion generously and its straps hugged her delicate shoulders, revealing her collar bones in all their glory.

Her jeans weren’t made to fit the skin and impress on flesh, but Kylie’s broad hips and prominent figure meant that even what was meant to be loose wasn’t. Her beautiful brown eyes could steal the soul of any who gazed into them, and her dark red lips were like age old wine only made sweeter by the blessing of time.

“All done,” Kylie was pleased with what she saw. She was too late to apply any makeup so she only applied a lip balm. Then she picked up the book she was reading and placed it in her bag.

“I have to ask Davies for the next volume,” Kylie reminded herself. She wasn’t a big fan of lectures. If she had her way she would rather be confined in the walls of the books she read. She would rather follow the adventures of the archangels and see how everything unfolded in the story she was reading, instead of having to face Professor Dewsbury for another long lecture. Sadly, what she loved were just stories. Making sure she passed Professor Dewsbury’s Cell Biology class was reality. That was the reality of being a Medical Student. And she had come too far to fail now; for she was a 3rd year Medical Student.

Kylie rushed out of her room and headed straight for the School of Medicine. Because she was running late, she had to jog the entire way. Although the department wasn’t that far from her hostel, it was still a fair distance away; and even jogging, it took Kylie 12 minutes to get there. Yet she wasn’t tired or sweaty. It was a strange thing about herself she had grown used to. For since she was a child, she always excelled when it came to physical activities. She never trained or tested herself past her limits, but she was much better than her peers. However, even with her impressive pace, she wasn’t able to avoid the fate of being late.

“You’re late again”
