I felt a cold sensation on my chest and then I stirred awake. My whole body ached and my eyes were blurry. How long had I been asleep?

I tried to turn but something heavy around my waist was holding me in place.

With the last strength I could muster, I stretched my body to have a proper look and the sight left me surprised.

Carter had his arms wrapped safely around my waist and his head rested in the crook of my neck but that wasn't what surprised me.

The problem was that Carter was covered in bandages and bruises like he had been in a fight. I could only wonder what happened while I was asleep.

What was he even doing here? If I wasn't mistaken, I was sure as hell that I was in Xavier's place and over the last few days, since the blood moon night, Carter had avoided me like a plague because of Alanna. So why then was her here in the same bed with me, battered and bruised?

Not wanting to wake him up, I tried to free myself from his grip but instead of letting go, Carter murmured
