"You're my mate!" Carter's words echoed in my head severally before it finally made sense.

"What?" I turned to him in shock. "Me? Your mate?" I chuckled unbelievably, "Did I hit my head and lose cognisance?"

"No, you didn't," Carter said softly, "And I'm also as surprised as you but Alanna seemed so sure."

"Then how?" I asked, "I don't know if you've forgotten but I have a mate, Carter." I stared at him seriously, "though he wasn't the best but I think every wolf is only given a mate. You're probably mistaken,"

"I'm not," He sounded so sure, "I feel like it's the truth."

"Why are you so sure?" I couldn't help but ask.

"Alanna said her only duty was to protect me and it seems right because truthfully," Carter swallowed, "You're the first person I'm telling this to but I've never really felt that connection with Alanna. I've only felt it with you."

"Carter," I stared at him, unable to form words as his sudden confession knocked the air out of me.
