Prologue (part 2)- Cilyna: A New Life

Hearing the crunch of Fall leaves under her bare feet was deafening to Cilyna's terrified ears. Her five year old little heart was racing faster than a busy humming bird's as her mother urged her faster through the trees. Something crashed being them, quite close, invoking an overwhelming desire to turn around and see what exactly was after them and why her and her parents continuously run. Never able to do anything or rest for more than a day or two before they were fleeing again.

"Don't look back Cilyna! What ever you do, do not look back!" her mother yelled at her, fear laced her mother's voice thickly.

Her mother grabbed Cilyna's little hand and dragged her further through, around, and over trees until her short legs were jerked from beneath her and she pulled her mother to an abrupt halt with her cries of pain as a bone snapped in two just above her ankle.

"Mommy please. I can't run anymore." Cilyna's mother, with her quick wits, shifted and placed Cilyna's tiny body on her back just between her shoulders where her fur was the thickest and softest for Cilyna to hold onto before she began running again at her top speed.

A flash of heat and a bright light buzzed by Cilyna's head, hitting a tree in front of her mother before she dodged around the falling pine. Her mother's fur rose up around her body, electrified from the static.

"Mommy, what was that?" she half yelled into her mother's ear.

"Witch magic, my love. Stay down as close as you can to my body." her mother said through their mind link.

Cilyna huddled closer to her mother. Out of the corner of her eye, she could see her father running a few yards away from them.

"How's my big brave girl doing?" she heard his warm familiar voice in her head.

She smiled and nodded to him, still unsure of how to mind link her parents just yet. He hung his tongue out the side of his muzzle to make her laugh before he started off to the side out of view when another blazing ball came whizzing passed. She seen him turn back and then vanish as her mother continued to run forward.

Against her mother's orders, Cilyna looked back to find her father and yet another blinding blast. She saw her father's wolf silhouette become airborne and then he was ripped apart. Body parts flew everywhere, in all directions. Cilyna felt her heart drop, her mother's quick steps faltered slightly before she caught herself and howled into the night. Though, Cilyna could not hear her mother's sorrow filled cry over her own whaling screams.

"Daddy!" she buried her face into her mother's fur and let it's softness soak up her tears.

They continued to run, not knowing if they were being followed. No more blasts were heard, no more bright flashes of light or falling trees. All around, there was silence except for the light thud from her mother's paws hitting the leaf littered ground.

Cilyna did not lift her head again until she felt her mother's pace slow to an almost stop. Slowly cracking an eye and tilting her head to the side, she saw street lights and tall buildings. Her fear returned and her heart began hammering again.

"Mommy, where are we?" Cilyna questioned softly.

"We are in a small town, dear. I need to get you to a hospital to fix your leg, my baby." her voice echoed inside her head again, filled with anguish.

Cilyna sniffled and rubbed her eyes not even thinking about her now swollen ankle. Her thoughts focused on her father and never hearing his bedtime stories anymore.

"But mommy, you said we couldn't stop?" she asked, still not wanting to let go of her mother for fear of losing her as well.

"My love, you need medical treatment that i can't help with. You're wolf has not presented herself yet in order to heal you properly." her mother said before shifting back into her human form holding Cilyna tightly to her chest.

She set her five year old little girl on her feet to shrug into the loose fitting dress she had stashed in Cilyna's back pack. Picking Cilyna up in a cradle position, she carried her into the lights and began hollering for help.

"Please! Can someone tell me where the hospital is? My daughter, she needs a hospital. Please, anybody!" she continued until a man came running.

"I'm a doctor at the hospital. It's only three blocks away. I'll take you there just let me get my car." the man has kind eyes, Cilyna thought as tears rolled down her chunky cheeks.

"Thank you, sir." Cilyna's mother said.

The man ran back across the street and got into a silver Altima, whipping it around and pulling to a stop beside the sidewalk where they stood. He got out, leaving the engine running to open up the back door for them to get in.

"Keep her leg elevated and stabilized. I'll get you to the hospital in two minutes and I will tend her wounds myself." he said, using a couple of golf clubs to stint Cilyna's leg and wrapping his belt and her leg to sinch the clubs tightly in place so the bone did not shift, while Cilyna lay her head in her mother's lap.

The doctor climbed back behind the wheel and just as he had said, the hospital was three blocks away. It was a small building, only two floors. He parked his car close to the emergency entrance.

"Hey, I need a gurney over here!" he yelled to one of the nurses inside just as his movements triggered the sliding doors

A nurse wheeled out a gurney quickly to the back seat of the car as the doctor carefully reached in to lift Cilyna out and placed her on the flat surface and strapped her down.

"What are we dealing with, Doc?" the nurse asked.

"It looks like a bimalleolar fracture but i won't know for sure until i get an x-ray done." he said to the nurse as they brought her through the doors and pushed her through another set of double doors into a room with a big machine that looked like a fancy camera to Cilyna.

"Mom, if you would like to stay with her i have to ask you to wear this vest so the radiation doesn't harm you." the doctor said after placing a thick black mat over Cilyna's body leaving her leg exposed.

Her mother quickly slid her arms through the arm holes and stepped up close to her daughters side to hold her hand.

"It's going to be alright, babygirl." she comforted her daughter, patting her shoulder gently.

"Mommy, I'm scared. Will it hurt?" Cilyna sniffled.

"No my darling. It's just going to take a picture of your leg to show the bones. It doesn't hurt at all." she said, stroking her hair away from her face.

"Ok, you ready brave girl?" the doctor asked from a tiny room with a glass window and computer screens behind it.

Cilyna nodded after taking a deep breath.

"Ok, one... two... three." he said and a wirling filled the room briefly before letting the silence fill the air once again.

"All done! See babygirl? Nothing to it." Cilyna's mother said encouragingly as she kissed her daughter's forehead.

"Alright, I'm going to put you in a room while the film develops and we can see what's going on in there." the doctor said, returning from his monitor room.

Being placed in a room was quick. The doctor pulled Cilyna's mother side to wrap a shallow gash she had sustained previous to their marathon run through the forrest despite her protests. She could see her mother through through a window as the doctor bandaged her arm. They were talking but Cilyna could not hear their words nor could she read their lips. The expression on her mother's face frightened her. Tears were in her eyes and her nose was turning red with her emotions. A look her mother had only once before when Cilyna had had to hide alone and her parents were not sure if they would be reunited or not. Their eyes met through the glass and Cilyna knew her mother would be saying goodbye to her soon. Cilyna's eyes filled with tears herself as she watched her mother slowly make her way back into her room after the doctor left.

"Mommy are you leaving me again?" she asked with a hiccup and a sniffle.

"My big brave girl." her mother said with a sad smile across her lips as she brushed a strand of hair away from Cilyna's face.

"I love you so much, never forget that, my darling."

"When will you come back?" a tear rolled down her cheek.

"I don't know baby, but I will come back for you. I promise you, my love. I will never forget about you and we will be back together again when I know it is safe for you and we can live happy without having to worry about the werewolf hunters." her mother struggled to speak as her own tears trailed down her face.

"Please mommy don't leave me again. What if you don't come back this time?" Cilyna's words made more tears fall.

"I will babygirl. I will always come back for you."

"Where will I be this time?" Cilyna rubbed her eyes.

"There is an orphanage in this small town. You will be around other little kids you're age to play with. So you won't be lonely. But, you can not tell any of them that you are a werewolf babygirl. No one can know so you can stay safe. Do you understand my darling?" her mother said, gaining a small amount of control of her voice.

"So when I get my wolf I have to hide her? I can't change ever?" Cilyna asked with a frown.

"Yes my dear. You will have to give up shifting until it is safe for you to. Though I hope I will return before your first shift. I will stay with you until they release you from the hospital." she sighed.

"Ok mommy. I'll be brave." she declared, her mother smiled at her precious five year old.
