Chapter 5

Emily wasn't sure she heard Mr. Lucas's words correctly; she pretended she didn't hear what he said.

“Mr. Lucas, shouldn't we shake hands before we proceed further?” Lucas didn't listen to Emily's words; his eyes remained wide open as he stepped forward toward her.

Emily steps backward, maintaining the distance between them.

Lucas continues to stare at Emily as he moves closer to her.

“Don't be afraid.”

Lucas finally stopped, and Emily stopped too; she was almost close to her table.

“I will protect you.”

Emily is stupefied by Lucas's words; she doesn't understand what he is saying, and she doesn't care either. She straightens up and shakes the little fear she had inside her.

“Mr. Lucas, are you still interested in the brown art gallery or not?” Lucas finally wakes up from his shock state. He faces Emily.

He heard that the owner of the art gallery is currently living abroad. He didn't do any research on the person, who would've thought that she was the girl he had been looking for all these years? He managed to compress his excitement.

Lucas takes one final step forward to Emily

“I will pay you a billion dollars if you tell me what I need to know.” Emily was dumbstruck by his words. Is this a joke or a prank?

“Mr. Lucas—”

Lucas raised his voice.

“I will buy this place for one billion dollars if you tell me what I need to know.”

Emily was confused; Lucas felt so strange, yet she hadn't thought of calling security on him. For some reason, he blocked her, he seems not harmful. She couldn't help but chuckle. She stepped closer to Lucas this time.

“Mr. Lucas, we are here for business. The Brown Art Gallery is worth over a hundred million dollars. I don't understand why you want to buy it for a billion. Could you please enlighten me?”

“No, I will give you one billion dollars if you tell me what I need to know.”

Emily blinks rapidly as she stares at Lucas.

“And what is this thing that you need to know?”

Lucas checked his watch; he was running late already.

“One minute, please.”

He brought his phone out and called his secretary.

“Cancel the meeting, and I am not coming to the office today.”

He cuts the call without waiting for his secretary to respond. Lucas faces Emily again.

“You have to see it yourself, Mrs. Emily; I can't tell all the details.”

Lucas's fingers were shaking. All these years he has been looking for her; he thought she was dead, but she is alive and well.

Emily paused for a while; she didn't know what Lucas was saying or referring to, but she somehow believed in his words, and since the money was very enticing, she had to stay calm.

“And where can I see this stuff you are talking about?”

“It's a video, and it's only available in my house, but that seemed inconvenient for you. Why don't we go to my office? I have a copy of the video there.”

Emily's eyebrows moved a little.

“What does this video contain?”

“I can't explain the details.”

Lucas sounded immediately, then stepped closer to Emily, which covered the distance between them. His voice was low and assuring.

“I know what you must've been through, and I promise that nobody will dare touch you again. I will protect you from all of them; you just have to tell me what I need to know.”

Emily's breath was vibrating; for some reason, she felt she had been near this person before; his actions didn't look threatening to her; nobody had come this close her since she left.

“Are you sure you haven't mistaken me for somebody else?”

“No, because I don't make mistakes.”

Emily stares at Lucas's ocean eyes.

“Okay, I will give it a try in your office.”

Lucas released a heavy breath before he said.

“Okay, we should go now.”

Emily nods twice at his words. She follows him out of the building. There was a Lamborghini Sián packed outside the building. Her eyes widened, seeing the luxury car outside. Lucas walked faster than her, and he opened the car door. Emily entered the car, and he zoomed to the driver's door immediately.

“Let's go” Lucas drove the car to his company; he arrived at the underground parking lot, and he packed his car at the CEO spot. Emily was dumbfounded to see he was the CEO of AG Company. She knows he is a CEO, but she doesn't expect him to be the CEO of one of the most influential companies in the country.

She came out at the same time as Lucas. Lucas points to the doorway immediately; he walks faster than Emily so he can open the door for her. For him, Emily is the most important asset in the world; he will do anything for her.

These are even minor things that shouldn't be taken note of.

Lucas walks Emily to the elevator; they enter the elevator, and Lucas immediately clicks the floor number.

The elevator opened, and Lucas took the lead immediately, his presence stunned the people around, and they immediately rushed to their duty position in their offices.

Everybody was rushing to different corners; Lucas didn't pay them any attention; his main focus was to open each door for Emily until he opened his office door.

The workers were stupefied by his actions; they could've all been fired today, but the boss didn't pay them any attention, and who the hell is that lady?

“Who is she?”

They looked at each other; it was certainly not the boss's girlfriend. Emily enters Lucas's office; unlike hers, this place is big and decorated with many works of art— of hers, to be precise. Lucas immediately walked to the door on the right side of his office.

He input the codes before the door opened.

“Mrs. Emily”

Emily stepped towards him quickly, and with each step she took, her heart was pounding faster than before. She was starting to question herself why she agreed to his words, what he planned to show, and what would happen if something bad occur.

Dammit, she shouldn't be here. Emily enters the room, and Lucas shuts the door.

She is greeted with a large cinema screen. The place is dark, and there are no chairs available. Lucas removed his suit and adjusted his sleeves to his arms.

“Eighteen years ago, you experienced the deaths of a man and a woman; those people were my parents.”

Emily's heart seized when she heard the words. Eighteen years ago, her father committed suicide, and her mother couldn't take the shock, so she passed away too, leaving her alone in this world. She wanted to say something when the video started playing on the big screen.

“That is you coming out of the art gallery store.”

Lucas points at the girl that is coming from an art store with a man and a woman.

Emily's heart skipped when she saw the little girl's looks; it looked very much like her when she was seven.

The man in the video brought out his phone in a worried manner, but a car drove him, and he was gunned down immediately. The woman was also killed. The seven-year-old girl squatted on the floor immediately, the car door opened, and two people came out of it: a fully grown man and a boy that might be the same age as the girl. The little one picks up the phone while the man shoots the camera in the area. Lucas stepped forward to the big screen and played the video back.

“From your angle, you can easily tell who these people are. This man had a tattoo; can you identify the symbol?”

Emily was quiet as she stared at the big screen. Her body was shaking, but Lucas didn't notice it. He points to the kid.

“From your angle, you saw both of their face. I want to know how they looked and what they did afterward.”

Lucas faced Emily, hoping to hear her respond, but he got nothing.

“Emily!”

Emily's eyes slowly moved to Lucas.

“That is not me.”
