Chapter 5.2

“Excuse me, I’m sorry you must have been mistaken. I have no connections at all.”

“Oh, come on. Everyone knows that for you to succeed early, you have to have connections. Don’t be shy, it’s normal.”

The director seemed to notice a tension forming between Amanda and Madison.

“Come one, ladies! We should talk about—” The director was cut off when Madison spoke.

“You said that everyone needs connection to succeed?”

“That’s right, so don’t—” Amanda wasn’t even done answering when Madison cut her off.

“So, it’s right for me to assume you have that connection. Am I right? But how come, even with that connection that you’re proud off, you are still not successful in your career?” Madison straightforwardly said and smirked at the end. She forced a smile at Amanda who’s obviously offended.

“Excuse me? What did you just say?”

“Oh, it’s just because I never had someone to back me up in building my career. I only have my skills, knowledge and talent. I succeeded alone, as you can see. But if you are so proud that you have connections, why don’t you use them well to become a known personality? It’s going to be ten-years since you started, why don’t you start being known without scandals?”

“What?! Wow, so you have this attitude? Again, not everything you hear is what you can see.”

“I’m sure you only heard about my achievements and skills in saving lives, because I only heard about you every time you have scandals, other than that, I never heard anything about you.” The assistant director let out a soft laugh but tried her best to hold it. Amanda’s faced turned red and was obviously pissed off. “Doctors are responsible about the life of a person. Having connections is not the only thing you need to be a doctor, if you have no skills better stop. Why, will you let a doctor who doesn’t know how to hold a scalpel but is the son of the president open you up? You won’t even last five-minutes in the operating table with that kind of doctor. If it works for you, it doesn’t for doctors. We can’t just act like we can operate even though we can’t.”

Amanda wasn’t able to answer Madison. Silence surrounded them not until a loud crash was heard outside the restaurant. All them including Madison turned their gaze outside the establishment. A woman was on the top of a car and seemed to have fallen from higher floor of the building. Madison quickly stood up and run towards the accident.

Madison looked above the building, and saw man figure at the rooftop peaking down. He immediately left while Madison climbed on the roof of the car and checked the pulse of the victim.

As she was checking the pulse of the woman, she noticed a two small hole in the neck of the victim. She realized that it was identical to the man she treated at the hospital.

“Excuse me! Miss, please go down!” Madison looked at the man who called her. They are wearing a rescuer uniform and carrying a stretcher.

“I’m a doctor!” Madison jumped down and the rescuers carefully transferred the woman to the stretcher. “Her pulse is weak; we have to bring her to the hospital immediately.”

“You can’t come, we will transfer her.”

“I just said I am a doctor!”

“Do you have any valid ID?”

“What?! Are you seriously—damn fine, I won’t come! Bring her immediately!”

Madison watched as the ambulance left. She couldn’t believe that she was asked to present a valid ID. It was her first time encountering a rescuer who questioned her identity as a doctor.

She looked up at the building again before entering the restaurant.

“I’m sorry I have to leave now.” Madison hurriedly picked her bag and left. She was about to ride a taxi when she saw another ambulance arriving at the scene. She saw one of the rescuers she knew so she approached him.

“Mister!”

“Doctor Madison! You’re here also?”

“Yes, I was having lunch. Anyway, why are you here?”

“What? Ah, we got an emergency call about a woman falling.”

“What do you mean? She was already taken by an ambulance.”

“What? But we are the only available ambulance in this area. That’s weird. Did they dispatch another team?”

Madison was stunned and realized that it was indeed surprising that the ambulance from earlier arrived immediately. Another rescue team member approached them.

“Sir, where is the victim?”

“Ah, I was told that she was already taken by another team. I think we should go. Doctor Madison, thank you for your service as always.”

“You too.”

Madison was left confused and decided to go to the hospital. After she arrived, she immediately asked the nurse about the patient.

“Where is the patient that was just brought in because of a fall injury?” The nurse looked confused and looked around before answering Madison.

“I don’t think we have that patient. There was no patient that was brought here for fall injury.”

“What? That’s impossible, this is the closest hospital from the accident site,” Madison said is disbelief. She finds the situation weirder as she remembers the marks that she saw.

She walked to the nurse station and called the hospital that is a few more miles away from the accident site.

[Hello, this is Sun Park Hospital.]

“Ah, yes, this Doctor Madison Suarez from—”

[Ah! Yes of course I know you. What can I do for you?”

“I was just wondering if a woman from a fall accident was brought there? I think she’s in her thirties, her hair is died in brown and was wearing a pink top.”

[Hold on, I’m going to check...Unfortunately, we don’t have a patient from a fall accident. We don’t have the patient that you’re looking for.]

“Okay...thank you.”

Madison is now convinced that something wrong is happening. She also remembered the figure she saw at the top of the building where the women fell. She decided to return to the accident site and see if she can discover anything.

She returned to the building and took the elevator to the rooftop. It was a commercial building so the rooftop is open even for outsiders. She looked around the rooftop and saw no one. She approached the location where the woman could have fell.

She looked down and saw how high the building is. She continued to observe the barricades until she noticed blood on the ground. She saw traces of blood of the ground so she closely looked at it.

“Why are there blood in here? The victim only had head injury from the fall which caused her to bleed. I saw no other injury, except for the mark on her neck,” said by Madison who is talking to herself while processing the situation.

Her attention has diverted when a loud slam from the rooftop door entrance occurred. Madison quickly runs towards the door only to find out that it is already locked.

“HELLO?! Somebody in there?! Hello! Please open the door!” Madison shouted but got no response. She looked it there’s a way to open the door but no avail.

Madison just walked away from the door and observed the surroundings. Until something caught her attention.

She saw a bracelet of the floor and she picked it up. It was a black bracelet that has a red pendant. She looked closely and saw a letter V engraved in the pendant. She roamed her eyes until she spotted a man in black standing in another building and looks like he’s watching her. The man quickly disappeared which shock Madison more. The speed was not normal and it sent shivers to her.

She looked at the door when she heard it unlock. She succeeded in opening it and as soon as it opened, she quickly left the building and went home.
