Eva's pov

I was busy in the kitchen, humming a soft tune to myself as I prepared breakfast. It had been two months since I moved into this house, and I had finally settled in, becoming familiar with the creaky floorboards and the way the morning sunlight streamed through the kitchen window. The rhythmic clinking of utensils and the aroma of fresh coffee filled the air, making me feel at home.

As I was flipping pancakes on the stovetop, my phone suddenly rang. Glancing at the screen, I saw that it was an unknown number. Usually, I'd let it go to voicemail, but something made me curious this time. Maybe it was the way the morning felt, a sense of adventure in the air, or simply the desire for a change from my usual routine.
