CHAPTER 21
Mateo and I led the warriors to the mines and we were the first ones inside. I didn’t know what I was looking for but there were a lot of empty alcohol bottles, dirty mattresses and all sorts of garbage on the floor when we walked in. I looked around and there were several entrances down the corridor so Mateo ordered everyone to split up. “This is a popular party spot for teenagers.” Mateo said. “How do you let them get away with it?” I asked. “I don’t. Meadow usually organizes them so I don’t find out about it until the next day or so.” Mateo said. “Meadow organizes them?” I asked, shocked. “She is the next Alpha of this pack and she is very responsible. But she’s also a teenage girl.” Mateo said. “I guess. Her friends probably love her for it.” I said. I then heard something off to the right of us, when we knew that all the warriors had gone to the right. Because that’s where all the other entrances were. So Mateo and I went the other way and thankfully for being we

CHAPTER 22
MEADOW POV Lucas was stalking towards Arlo and I knew that he was going to kill him. No one was more possessive than an Alpha. And now that he found out about my history with the head warrior, this wasn’t going to be good. I tried to speak, but nothing came out. Neither of them were looking at me as I was trying to get their attention, so I pulled my blanket back and I lifted my legs over the side of the bed. I used the bed as leverage as I stood up, but as soon as I let it go to start to move towards them, I fell to the ground. The machines started making a whole lot of noises as I felt something tug at my throat, and it got their attention. Lucas saw me on the ground and ran over to me and picked me up and put me back in bed. The doctor came running in and started yelling at Lucas and Arlo. I had torn my throat and they needed to put a new tube in so I could breathe again. Arlo was told to leave, but Lucas, being my mate, wasn’t told that he had to leave. Once everyth

CHAPTER 23
The vampire was stalking towards my bed, zig zagging from side to side. Her crimson eyes were on me the whole time. “What do you want?” I managed to whisper out. “I thought you and I needed to talk. You are, afterall, the next Alpha of this pack. Mated to the Alpha of the most powerful pack in the country.” She said. “So?” I asked. “Well, we all know that werewolves are the ones that are going to try to stop what we are trying to do. The accomplishments that we are trying to achieve.” She said. “Accomplishments? You’re killing innocent people to take over the world. That’s not an accomplishment. That’s sadism.” I said. “Probably. We are vampires, without souls.” She said. “Bullshit. Vampires can have a soul. You just choose not to.” I said. “You are smarter than anyone gives you credit for. He told me that you were the one that we needed to look out for.” She said. “Who?” I asked. And she smiled a maniacal smile at me. “The one who told us that taking over the world

I sat there in shock, staring at Violet. Waiting for her to tell me that this was some sort of a sick joke or something. But the joke never came. I knew that she was serious. I climbed out of bed, even though I was still shaky on my feet, and Lucas had to stabilize me. “Meadow. You need to get back in bed.” Lucas said. “No. Those leeches didn’t kill my dad.” I said. “I’m really sorry Meadow. Your dad is gone.” Violet said. “You’re wrong. Dad wouldn’t get killed by a vampire.” I said. “He didn’t see it coming. It looks like it was quick.” Violet said. “I don’t believe it!” I yelled. My machines started going crazy as my heart rate was getting elevated and the doctor came in and saw Lucas holding me, trying to calm me down while I was yelling and screaming at everyone. I saw a nurse with a needle and she injected it into my IV and I yelled at her not to. I tried to pull my IV out but Lucas wouldn’t let me. He held my arms really tight against his chest. It didn’t take

CHAPTER 25
I stood there staring at the elders as they looked so sure of themselves. I leaned against the door, staring at each and every one of them. They all didn’t flinch, they didn’t seem intimidated at all. And I was going to have to change that. “None of you have Alpha blood.” I said. “That doesn’t matter. We know what’s best for this pack. We have lived here our whole lives.” Caleb said. “Right. So have I. In the packhouse. Around the Alpha. In fact, when he died at the hands of vampires, his Alpha power had to go somewhere. And where do you think that power went?” I asked, watching them all as they all started to squirm. As they started to sweat and buckle at the knees. As they started to feel the pressure and pain of the Alpha aura being pushed upon them from my body. I knew that they were elderly, which means I didn’t go too hard on them. I let up the Alpha aura when I was sure that they knew what point I was trying to get across. “I know that you all think that I am too y

CHAPTER 26
I called the coroner immediately and he allowed me to go and view the bodies at the morgue. Lucas obviously wouldn’t let me go there alone so he drove me and we walked in the back entrance of the hospital. I was hoping that I wouldn’t have to come back to this place any time soon, but things always happen that you don’t expect. The coroner Astrid was waiting for us and both of the bodies were laid out with sheets over them. I took the sheet off of Jillian first because I knew that it would be the easiest for me to see. I had no emotional attachment to her at all. The body was really torn up and I inspected it very carefully using a magnifying glass. “Vampires have learnt to disguise their kills to make it look like animals have attacked them.” Lucas said. “I know. And that’s why I’m looking for anything I can. You haven’t done an autopsy yet or examined these bodies really closely?” I asked. “Not yet. I guess I wasn’t ready to deal with this yet.” Astrid said. “I don’

I stared at the photo of my mother and then looked at Lucas. I couldn’t stop thinking about that dream that I had of her as well. But then I shook it off. “This is crazy. It had to be someone that looked just like her.” I said. “She has the same eyes as you. Just not as bright.” He said. “Maybe it was a relative of hers or something. It’s possible. I know that she wasn’t born in this pack and I’ve never met anyone from her side of the family. I had to be someone else that was a close relative. Maybe she’s got a sister or something.” I said. “You’ve never met them?” He asked. “No. Dad never mentioned them and I guess I was just never interested. This was my home and I never thought about it.” I said. We were in the office working until late before I finally went up to my room to have a shower and I got some fresh clothes on. And it was really good to have a shower as well. I then sat next to the window for a minute looking up at the sky, starting to wonder what sort of fam

CHAPTER 28
I called Arlo to the packhouse immediately and he found me in the office. “What’s going on?” He asked. “I have a private informant. Dad didn’t even know about this one. I’ve just been told that we’re going to be attacked tonight. Two hours after sunset by some pretty heavy hitters.” I said. “Vanessa?” He asked. “No. She was just here to taunt us. These ones are here to hurt us.” I said. “Alright. We have to get the warriors prepared. Do we know which direction they’re coming in?” He asked. “No. Which means all patrols have to be on alert tonight and mind link the rest of us the second they see them coming. Or hear them.” I said. “I’ll call an emergency meeting for all of the warriors. In the meeting hall.” Arlo said. “Alright. Let me know when they are all there. Don’t start without me.” I said. “No worries.” He said, leaving the office. I kept working on a few different things in the office when I got the call that all the warriors were in the meeting hall. I wen

The vampires attacked in unison and they were definitely well trained for this. Something else I had never seen or heard of before. But we were just as well trained. If not, better. Because we train for this our whole lives. We all collided with a thunderous crash, with me right in the middle of the fighting and I grabbed one vampire that was attacking another wolf and I gripped it around the neck and shook my head vigorously until its head detached from its body and then threw it away in the distance. I felt something sharp stick into my back that I let out a roar, but before I could get the vampire off of me another warrior had already grabbed it and killed it. I could tell right then that they were all watching out for me, as well as themselves. But also each other. Just like they had been trained. They were a pack. And no matter who hated each other inside the pack, when we are faced by an enemy like this, we are one. We work as one. The vampires were getting through us,
