Chapter Twenty-One
“Jax!” Meghan screamed across the yard.  As we turned towards her, Jax shook his head. “I can’t hear my pack,” he said, sounding hurt.  “Do you think it was the memory?” I asked him.  “Jax! They’re here!” Meghan screamed again. She was running towards us and I finally noticed the blood on her clothes.   Jax caught up to her “I can’t hear the pack, you have to communicate to them Meghan. You know the plan! Go!” She took off back towards the front of the house, stripping off her clothes. I saw a glimpse of white fur before it disappeared.  “What is going on?” I said, following after Jax. He had started to follow Meghan  before I spoke. He turned around and grabbed onto my arms tightly.

Chapter Twenty-Two
“What are you talking about? I didn’t feed it anything!” I exclaimed. Damien pointed to the blood soaked box. “The blood is inside it too” “What does it mean?” I said, stepping away from the moonstone. “It looks nothing like the moonstone I have” “Because it’s not that type of moonstone.” Damien explained “the one you had is used to manipulate werewolves. This one is built specifically for crescent wolves.” “To manipulate us?” I asked He shook his head “Not really. It’s more to hold their wolves. It was rumored that crescent wolves could remove their wolf forms completely with these. I&rsqu

Chapter Twenty-Three
The sun peeping through the blinds or the feeling of  presence in the room woke me from my deep slumber. I glanced at Damien sitting on the edge of the bed, and groaned, throwing a pillow over my head.  “We have to  start moving. I’m sure they’re tracking you… and the trail of blood you left behind.”  My stomach clenched at the scene I had left behind.  “I killed someone…” I said softly on the mattress.  Damine grabbed my ankles pulling me off the bed and onto my feet, turning my head to face him.  “You protected yourself. Don’t ever think otherwise” he said as I pushed away from him.  “Stop, Damien. I’m serious.” I told him, making su

Chapter Twenty-Four
“Where are we going?” I asked for the millionth time. He usually ignored me or changed the subject to my past life or if I heard my wolf yet. I haven’t. Damien gripped the steering wheel tightly, giving a look that probably made others cower. “What makes you think I’m going to answer you this time?” I crossed my arms, pouting. “Because I don’t understand why it’s a secret” We had driven for over four days now, only stopping to let me use the restroom. And to shower when I practically gagged at my own smell and his. He would usually disappear when I was in the whatever place showering, I didn’t dare ask where he would go, but I knew he was close. Damien would allow me to climb in the backseat whenever I wanted to sleep, refusing to le

Chapter Twenty-Five
Damien didn’t follow me into the cottage and I didn’t see Autumn either. There sat a small bowl and cup  on a wooden table, it looked like a tree had simply fallen over and they chopped it in half. Without waiting for invitation, I sat down and scarfed the food down as I was a wolf animal. To my surprise, it filled up again as soon as I put the empty bowl down. I stared at it, a bit uneasy to get magical food. The hunger for the better of me as I eat the second helping without any more hesitation. “You wolves and your appetite. It is always astonishing.” Autumn said, shaking her head. The cottage was dark behind her, only the kitchen was lit. She mistook my looking as she continued, ” he’s not here.” “I don’t care.” I replied sharply.

Chapter Twenty-Six
“The what?” I exclaimed. “I don’t understand. I thought you were a coven leader or whatever.” My words were pointed at Damien, who snorted.  “The coven may have looked for guidance but only because they fear me” He replied, flashing me a cocky smile now.   Now Autumn laughed, shaking her head. “If only they knew you are nothing more than a scared little boy.” Damien rolled his eyes at her, it was obvious that he didn’t take offense to what she said. “Jax said you met with the Alpha everytime he would visit.” I pressed on, still confused. He shrugged. “I might have.” Great, we were back to being cryptic.  “What's the Vampire King?” I asked, turning back to

Chapter Twenty-Seven
That’s how it continued for the last few days. We walk towards the town, we stop and we practice. Never venturing further than the edge of it, no one seemed to ever look our way either.  My shield started to get better a bit everyday. Damien said it was starting to take a good majority of his strength to tackle me down. But I still landed on my ass either way.  Autumn left this morning before I had gotten up and I walked into her yard to find Damien waiting for me.  “Are we still going to town?” I asked him, looking around to see if Autumn had returned.  “No. We’re going to practice here today.” He replied, flashing me a lazy smile.  “Why? She seemed pretty adamant to not do it near her home. “&n

Chapter Twenty-Eight
Jax’s hand roamed everywhere, following with soft kisses, checking for anything.  “Are you okay? Did he touch you?” Jax kept asking over and over. His eyebrows furrowed as he took in my outfit, disbelief and.. a bit of disgust on his face. I shrugged away from him, putting my hand on his chest to put him at bay. “I’m fine. I swear.”  He crushed me to him again, hugging tightly. Planting one last kiss on my forehead, he lets me go. I sneak a glance at Sabine who is watching us intently.  “Where were you just now, Hayley?” She asks, turning her cold green eyes onto me. I think about Autumn and all the creatures in town, how guarded they were against the rest of the world.  “Damien was just teaching me s

Chapter Twenty-Nine
I knew when we were close to the packhouse as I felt the shift in the air. Glancing out the window, I could see the shimmering that reached miles into the sky. “That’s a lot of security,” I stated. It reminded me of the wards around Autumn’s village.  Jax snorted. “Yeah a lot of wolves don't really like to leave the packhouse. There’s only so many jobs that need to be done,so purebloods patrol the border.” “I-” I went to tell him about the magical shields that were around the property but stopped myself. Does Jax know? I had sensed his tension around magic beforehand. Maybe he didn't know and that wasn't something I wanted to reveal. As we passed through it, I shuddered. The magic clung around  me, daring me to absorb it. It was unlike anything I had felt while training. This was powerful, it was alluri

Chapter Thirty
“We were scared out of our mind.” Meghan sighed as she hooked her arm through mine, leading me to our rooms. We walked through several hallways, all of it lined with white and gold. The red carpet against the white tiles was startlingly harsh.  “I know. I'm sorry. I— a lot happened I just couldn’t come back.” I told her half honestly. I had wanted to come back at first. But the more time I spent with Damien the more I felt comfortable with who I was, especially once we got to Autumn’s. She was open and honest. She didn’t hesitate to tell me anything I asked.  “Why though? Why couldn’t you come back?” She asked, her eyes wavered with hurt.  “I was — scared” I lied. I don’t know why I did. I was sure that Jax had told her the truth of who I was. She pulled me into another hug, but let go quickly.&nbs
