CHAPTER FOUR.

She stared at him as he drove, all she could think about was how handsome he was sittting close to her, she was still mad at him for dragging her to his car and driving off.

he turned east off their neighborhood towards the highway, he didn't been in Texas much to know much to know where he was going

"Do you have a destination in mind?" she asked with ad much boredom she could muster "or you are driving aimlessly?"

he turned to look at her before returning his gaze back to the road "I always know where I'm going Alyssa" he said evenly "you know that".

Of course she knew that, it was because of that they even crossed paths

" when he turned off the highway, she had an idea of where he was going but she doubt he still remember

"what are you doing?" she asked in frustration

"I told you" he drove down a single lane, she knew exactly where he was driving to, anger seething within her for telling him about the lake, she had told him about how special the lake was to her and how she used to come here if she needed to clear her head "about what?"

"This guy you are seeing.....what is his name again, Daniel?

" David"she rolled her eyes at him she knew Lucas had intentionally gotten the name wrong "David Thayer. what about him?"

"How serious are you two?"

"My Love life is none of your business Lucas, we are not married" she said cool even though she was irritated that he dragged her across town to ask her about her love life, she had to admit she was a bit curious on why he went through all the trouble especially after all this years.

Not Lucas he didn't need a reason to do anything as long as it pleases him, that was a good enough reason for him.

He didn't say anything he kept driving, he made one last turn off the dirt road and the tires crunched over the rock, he didn't seem to mind, he parked his car and killed the engine ,he came out went and stood close to the lake expecting her to do so, she didn't want to give him the satisfaction but her curiousity was killing her, so she followed suit, she looked at Lucas, and instead of the warm sun she felt a chill shivered down her spine " you have something to say Lucas just say it"

he stared at her for a couple of seconds then nodded

"I never signed the annulment papers"

she went still, so still Lucas doubted she was breathing, he had brought here here to scream, he was certain than she would when he gave her the news, but it was Alyssa she was unpredictable

"What?" the word came out as a whisper but Lucas heard it

"I was going to sign them of course" he waited for her to take a breath but she didn't "I guess it got away from me"

"it....got....away" she took a deep shuddering intake of air "from....you?"

"When the papers came,I was in the middle of changing office and somehow it got mixed up in the shuffle"

her eyes grew wide "so we are still married?"

Lucas ran a hand through his hair " technically........yes"

she stopped breathing again, turned her gaze to the lake, with a sigh he took a step closer to her "Ally"

she didn't move, she just kept staring at the lake, he frowned at her serene profile, he wasn't used to this side of her, he didn't know how to handle her.

the longer she stayed quiet, the more he felt his anger built up "Dammit Alyssa say something"

"what do you want me to say Lucas, what? after three years you tell me you never signed our annulment papers...."

"your annulment papers" he took a step closer to her, forcing her to look at him" not mine"

she raised a brow at him " is that why you didn't sign it? because it was mine?"

He rubbed the back of his neck " I told you, it got lost in all the chaos of moving"

"No Lucas, there is no choas in your world, your world is all orderly and neat, you never lost anything"

I lost you.he almost said, he didn't want to say anything that she didn't wanted to hear "I wanted us to give it a try"

"A try?" her rose rose slightly. "you lied, played with me and married me all because you wanted to win a bet with your stupid friends"

"I apologize Alyssa what else do you want?"

she chuckled "Lucas you still don't get it, you lied to me, you broke me that is not something a little apology would fix"

"what do you want?" he asked with his gaze not leaving her face

if he wasn't so distracted by her soft tone, the heat of her body and the rise and fall of her chest maybe he would have seen it coming but he didnt, she shoved him, he hadn't had time to catch his balance , he fell into the icy water, he called himself an idiot for trying to predict Alyssa

"I don't want anything from you Lucas Ramirez, sign the annulment papers"

with that she left him, he barely picked himself up when she slid into his car, started the engine then drive off.

Dripping wet from head to toe, he stared at the car leaving.

Fuck.

it was a five mile walk back down to the B&B not especially far, but distance was not the issue here.

he had tried to be reasonable with but she had shoved him down the lake, he should have known better but he had let her pretty facee distract him, he did not care what she wanted he wasnted signing the annulment, after all 'All is fair in love and war'
