Chapter One

I sat up with a frown on my face, the blanket I had covering my body sliding down and pooling down on my lap. I looked around, dazed and confused, mind not fully aware of my surrounding yet and still not quite awake yet.

What woke me up? I asked myself, and just as I asked this, there was a persistent knock on my door and I sighed before kicking my feet a little and letting out a big yawn with my hands in the air.

Now there is only one person in the world that will be persistent and annoying like that in the world.

I removed the blanket from my body and stood up. "Good morning, world. Another day to survive." I greeted the small room with a bright smile.

I then walked up to the door and opened it to reveal Josef who's wearing a frown on his face, and all-ready to start the day.

"I thought you were dead." Josef, one of the only two friend I have deadpanned.

"Good morning to you, too, friend." I greeted cheerily. "And if I am dead, what about this one?" I asked with a small giggle before nearing the bed across mine and removing the blanket that's covering another lump of body.

Sofia automatically shivered when the cold wind blew and hit her body. She moaned and tried to snatch her blanket back, but I pull it away from her reach. She then opened her eyes to glare at me and I just smiled sweetly before throwing her blanket on her face abd returning back to my bed.

I folded my blanket I had for as long as I can remember, before placing it on my equally thin mattress. I'm not really sure how long I've had it or when it did start aiding my shivering body, not that it helped much considering how thing it is, but a beggar can't really be picky. You thank what you have and treasure it. Because after all, it's still better than nothing.

Yes, only a thin and old mattress and blanket are all I have. Pillows are luxury that I am not allowed to have as a servant.

"Ugh, today I have to clean the bathroom till lunch and do you know how much it reeks of their pees? It's like they sway their hips from side to side as they pee and it's everywhere! On the floor, wall and bowl! They have no basic human decency let alone consideration!" Josef complained as he stand against the wall of our small room.

Sofia and I shared a look before I laughed at Josef's rant and Sofia only rolled her eyes, already used to our friend's endless rant. After all, we can only release our emotions and complains to each other.

If I can even call what we have as a room. It is practically a box that you can barely move in, our beds are a few inches away from each other and a meter away from the four walls. It only has a small window that is made of wood. A strong strom and it will be surely washed away.

"And you both have to do the laundry today. Apparently, it is as tall as the mountain, and it's no wonder why when they love to pile it up that high to make us suffer!"

And welcome to our daily lives as the pack's omega slaves. We wake up every day before the sun even rise and do our tasks. I have been serving the higher-ranked werewolves in Northridge Pack for as long as I can remember.

We are divided by the higher-ranks and the lowest. The Alpha, Betas, and Deltas are considered as the highest and strongest, while us, the Omegas, the weakest and lowest serve them.

I grew up knowing I have no one by my side, no one to call as my family to rely on when both my warrior parents were killed in while the were in a scouting mission by rogue werewolves, leaving me as an orphan. Leaving me as a helper omega to the pack they once protected with their lives.

"Bunch of heartless creatures." I heard Sofia mumbled beside me.

"Damn right they are." Josef agreed. "Just a bunch of brutes taking advantage of their sizes."

And he wasn't wrong, us omegas tends to be a lot smaller, thinner and weaker than those who are higher than us. Thus, we are easily bullied by them. Especially me who can easily be swept away by a strong blow of the wind by how thin I am.

I blinked out of my thoughts and smiled as I stare at my two friends. Two people that I have come to trust and treat as my own family. I will do anything for them and they will do the same.

I skipped to where Sofia is and wrapped my right arm around her shoulders before I pulled her to where Josef is and did the same.

"Enough complaining, more action! Haven't we learned our lesson by now? Chop-chop!"

When we're outside, I removed my arms from them to close the door, not bothering to lock it. Who in their right mind will still old blankets and clothings? Because those are the only valuable things we have. My parents did not leave anything behind as they barely have anything, and it was burnt by the other warriros.

Together, we walked the familiar path to the main house where we'll be doing most of our chores. Yes, our little home is far away from the other house. Isolated from everyone together with the other omegas. Like usual, my eyes wandered to the fences, one step outside those fences and I will be free. I will be a rouge, but wouldn't that be better than be treated as such by your own pack already?

Because I want nothing for more than to be free. To run away from the mistreatment. To feel.. needed and to be treated fairly.

"Klaire."

I was snapped out of my thoughts when Josef called my name to see him in the opposite direction already, the way that will lead him to the bathroom.

"Her mind wandered far again." Sofia said with a click of her tongue as she stood beside me.

Josef throw something in the air and I almost did not catch it. I saw an apple on my hands and my eyes found my friend who's already walking backwards with his hand in his pocket.

"I saw that in the kitchen earlier. Eat it before you start your day."

A smile former on my face and I took a bite of the apple, ignoring Sofia and Josef who started to banter.

I gave Josef a grateful nod while I eat the apple and he just gave me a salute before he  turned to leave.

Later that day as I was hanging the clothes near the fence, I saw a movement from my right eye and found a man falling on his knees. I gasped and immediately ran to where he is.

"Are you alright?"

My heart broke when I saw that he was holding a baby in his arms, and he looks so tired. By his worn-out clothes, I can guess that he's an Omega like me.

I nervously looked around to see if there are any higher ranked around to see him before looking back at him.

"You can't be here. They might hurt you." I warned him, afraid for him and his baby.

"W-Water."

I bit my lip before running back inside without hesitation. I filled an empty jar before wrapping it in the piece of clothing I was about to hang. I carefully went back outside and sighed in relief when no one saw me.

"Here. Take this and carry on. Hurry!" The man took the jar from me, and I gave him the piece of cloth too. "Take that and wrap your baby around your baby. It will make it easier to run."

The man nodded thankfully, gratitude evident in his eyes. "Thank you so much."

I just smiled and watched them disappear into the woods, feeling a little bit jealous that he had the guts to leave, but worried about their safety.

I looked back at the pack I grew up in with a sad smile. "If only this place is as welcoming as the other packs."
